New bike lane stripes washing away in rain

Um, I don't think they used the right kind of paint.

  1. That's what you get when you use Gaspar's mascera!

  2. The slurry patch is uneven, not well applied. It's hazardous. Complaints have been submitted; call in with yours. City shouldn't have contracted with these firms for 5 years. Two years, max, with yearly evaluations would be much better.

  3. The highway 101 needs an overlay like many streets in Encinitas. Gus stripped the CIP and is deferring maintenance to pay for the huge little sports complex.

Gus needs to go before he bankrupts Encinitas.

  4. The slurry seal was a pretty big fail. The road is bumpier than ever.

  5. The slurry seal on Piraeus and other parts of town was perfect. Don't know how we ended up with the discount version. Slurry For Less? It looks pretty great though from Google Earth.

  6. Its nothing more than a seal and it should have been an overlay. They cheaped out again on Leucadia again and gave our money to the Regional Sports Park.

  7. The whole project was a joke to begin with anyway. Not sure why an avid group of cyclists were able to push this through with very little public discussion. I hope it washes away so we can all put this bad idea behind us. Cyclists should just use Vulcan Ave because it is about 10 yards away and provides the same north/south route in Leucadia/Encinitas. Or at least build a true dedicated bike lane. Cutting the car flow in half so a bunch of power bar jerseys can now crowd out the entire 101 was a very stupid idea to begin with.

  8. Yeah, they should put it back like it was; remove the south bike lane completely, put back the north bike lane to 2' wide and raise the speed limit back to 60 MPH. I miss all those ambulances and commuters blazing through town.

  10. I'm sure all of the business along the 101 corridor miss those commuters too. Unless you are the Pannikin, sell leg razors for men or the owner of a spandex outlet, you're not a business benefitting from the bike lane. I even ride my bike around there a lot and surf Beacon's and Grandview regularly and I still think it's a waste of time. If the goal is to get people to slow down, there are plenty of traffic calming measures that have nothing to do with bicyclists or losing an entire lane. Now you just have a huge traffic jam that's not moving at all most weekends. Is that better?

  11. Too bad they didn't make City Hall out of water-soluble materials.

  12. Sdjase- Do you have your eyes open? What traffic jams are you talking about?.... Oh the ones when I5 gridlocks?..... that has backed up Hwy101 for over 10 years. It has nothing to do with the bikelanes. It has to do with the capacity of I5 and intersections.
