I can not believe the sports fields in the park. The North soccer field next to the playground has a dramatic slope to the South. The Southwest corner is so bad that there is no way someone could do a corner kick from it - they would be running up hill from a storm drain to a corner that is at least a foot below the rest of the field. The upper baseball diamond slopes from the outfield to the infield, which is accentuated by the fence that runs along the 3rd base line as it turns uphill when it gets to the outfield. All of the fields have waves in them so that one is intermittently running uphill and downhill.
Of course the level of play that we will see on those fields does not necessitate professional quality surfaces. However, I have seen better soccer and football fields that were lined out in parks that just happened to have enough open space for them. This park was designed as a sports park and we paid a lot of money for it. The quality of the fields is disappointing.
On the other hand, my kids (and about 100 others) really enjoyed the playground gear this Sunday. With all that climbing and spinning stuff I hadn't even noticed the swing situation.
I agree a 44 acre park and how big is the playground area??? It would have been nice to have an area designated for smaller children instead of having 3 year olds get run over by 10 year olds.. Community Patk ....should of named it Encinitas Sports Park. The dog park is bigger than the playground.

C'mon, park is epic. Swings are so 70's.....kids love all the rope climb stuff nowadays. Not to mention the balance sk8board thingy.....shaka..
ReplyDeleteSwings are dangerous and shame on you for not outfitting your children with crash helmets. Bad daddy!!
ReplyDeleteHelmets on swings? Seriously?
