Bad News for Encinitas Urban Campers

The city of Encinitas will be increasing police enforcement of two-hour parking zones in an effort combat the problem of people living in recreational vehicles on city streets.

  1. As a former urban camper briefly living descreetly and respectfully in a truck and using beach and gym showers, it makes me sad that future generations won't be able to taste that kind of freedom.

Obviously, the downtown parking rules need to be enforced if these people are causing parking shortages or other public nuisances. But that will only push them to Cardiff or Leucadia or the library, and the parking restriction zone will have to be perpetually expanded... and then we'll get parking meters.

This place is getting crowded. Nobody has any elbow room any more.

I'm gonna go watch Easy Rider.

  3. Hope the hippy van at the bottom of Orpheus park doesn't get booted. The kids love the rainbow paint job, and I love the talking joint painted on the side.
