Strange City Shrine at Stater Bros
I hadn't been in the Stater Bros "super"market in the Ecke Ranch shopping center in ages so I've never seen this strange shrine dedicated to the city before.
It is placed high above the front doors and is very easy to miss as people rush in and out of store. Even if you want to pause and try to look at it you block the entry and people run into you with their wobbly wheeled shopping carts.
Even if you wanted to read the plaques it's pretty much impossible because the shrine is placed so high.
Just another one of the weird things you see on the "dark side" of Encinitas.

The "shrine" have been up for awhile, but it is uncertain if it was put up before or after one of the Propositions (A or C).
ReplyDeleteThere's also plenty of sunlight on the "eastside" of Encinitas.
I feel bad for whomever put all that work into it. It's unreadable as is. Maybe it should be at city hall or in the lobby of the La Paloma or something.
ReplyDeleteWeird things you see in the "dark side" of the city council arena---
ReplyDeleteIn 2003,
The San Dieguito Water District (SDWD) with a completely paid off District headquarters property on Cornish being sold for one million dollars by the District Board/city council to the city/city council for a portion of the new library.
In 2006,
The SDWD, now without any property to call its own as headquarters,
will pay at least $3,380,000 and maybe up to $5,000,000 to be allowed to have the "perpetual rights of use" of a portion of the Mossy/city public works property.
The approval will be given by the Board/city council next Wednesday, Sept. 27.
Perpetual rights of use doesn't sound like an ownership phrase.
That's a weird deal.

ReplyDeleteLast night at the Leucadia Candidates Forum both Dan Dalager and Doug Long touted the wonderful financial situation of our city. I don't think either has the foggiest idea of the money manipulation that Kerry Miller has done. The hiring of Phil Cotton as city manager is to guarantee the status quo and hide the money trail out of the SDWD into the general fund. Will the city be forced to repay the money illegally transferred, as in San Diego? Only an outside, truly independent, line item audit will suffice. Not the annual audit that Dalager so smugly stated is being done and thinks is adequate.
ReplyDeleteDalager also stated that Cotton cleaned up the mess in the Public Works Department. What mess? Lyn Wurbs left only about a year ago to take another job after it was discovered $1 million was missing and an additional assessment had to be made on Cardiff property owners to replace it. The "mess" had been created by Kerry Miller and his money manipulation. Cotton cleaned up nothing. It is the Cardiff taxpayers who will be cleaning up the "mess."
Last night only Teresa Barth had a clear sense of the problems in our city and maybe Tom Brown. D & D don't want to get it. That's Dumbest and Dumbester.
I could not make the town council meeting last night but Adam Kaye's article today made it sound like a love fest. Did anyone ask any hard questions, or were the questions pre-screened?
ReplyDeleteLEUCADIA TOWN COUNCIL CAND. FORUM!!
ReplyDeleteSo you want to vote for Teresa Barth for City Council, because she ..... and you think she's just peachy and understands Leucadia!!! I can hear you now as you sit at the Panikin touching each others hands and arms about how "in touch" Teresa is with the coummunity. " Oh, she's just the right person for us, she UNDERSTANDS our feelings!!!"
Teresa Barth says she wants to hear from Leucadians about what we want,( I'm paraphrasing here I don't have her exact quote from the UT). OK Teresa pay attention here's what we want...
1- WE don't want to be ignored by the city or council anymore!!
2- We want sidewalks the entire length of 101.
3- We want flowers throughout the 101 center median, flowers that bloom ALL YEAR LONG!!!
4- We want the city to WATER the flowers!!!
5- We want portapotties at all Leucadia beaches!!!
6- We want real drainage relief!!!
7- How about some streetlights????
Want me to go on? OK!!
8- How about doing something about the "DEAD ZONE" known as the rail right-of-way!! Dead as in only watermelons are allowed to grow there, how about some flowers or grass!?!?!?
9- How about paving some of the alleyways in Leucadia??
10- How about Landscaping L-Blvd down to Vulcan with REAL cement sidewalks on both side of the street!!
You vote for Teresa Barth if you want, but don't expect her to embrace anything good for Leucadia, she has learned political double speak very quickly. And will work to KEEP LEUCADIA UGLY!!!
Staggering.....Roadside Park Bum!!!
I disagree with your take about Teresa RSB. Having met Teresa I think she is very open to Leucadia improvements. Your list is almost identical to my list.
ReplyDeleteThe train track side of 101 is a mystery. Do we have any say on landscaping there or is it all NCTD?
BTW, I'm thinking aloe vera plants for the center medians. Very little watering, they look cool and they get insane flowers when they bloom. Whaddya think?
J.P.
ReplyDeleteCan't help but disaggree with you regarding T Barth. My personal take is that she wants to Keep Leucadia "Unique" which means to me Funky, which means UGLY!!!
She asked in the forum(I wasn't there, all I know is what I read in the UT), that she wants Leucadia to explain it's wants! HUH???? If she doesn't understand going into the election when will she?? Behind some close door meeting at the CCouncil?? Cutting the ribbon for the $25+million library?? ( The city has never built any project on time or at budget, L-Blvd was over 1 year behind schedule and $1+ million over budget!!)
If you've already spoken to her and she still doesn't understand what we need, then IMHO we've already lost the war!!! AS I said in the "What Folly" posting I believe the city will always find some project more important than any project in Leucadia. AS I said I believe she has mastered the language of double speak!!
The city just tosses us a bone every now and then to pacify Leucadians. Irrigation for the center median,(but they don't turn it on in places), curbing in the center median( but they don't remove the rusted guard rails). They tell us to fund our own flowers then won't water them and then they die. These are just bones tossed to a hungry dog!! Yep they toss us some bones then kick us in the teeth!!
L 101 is having it's annual meeting this week, the new and old city managers and will be there, to talk about Leucadia and sidewalks. It'll be interesting to see if any candidates show up TO LISTEN!!! Post your views and comments for me will you, I'll be good and drunk that night!!! I can't remember which night it is, but I can guarantee I WILL BE DRUNK!!!
As for aloe vera, anything is better than nothing in the center median but please don't tell me your one of those people than put aloe vera on burns-sun or otherwise- it just doesn't work!! Only ICE works for burns!!!! Or pressing a cold can of Bud against the burn! That works also!
Staggering down the 101 pressing a cold can of Bud against my forehead and the burning headache known as Leucadia, it's your RSPB!!
PS- What on your wish list for Leucadia??
I still say RSPB could be Charlie Marvin, retired attorney and business and landowner in Encinitas, including, particularly, Leucadia.
ReplyDeleteYeah, why can't you pay someone with a watering can to water the flowers that people donated, Charlie, I mean RSPB?
Why can't you do what the citzens and biz owners did in Cardiff, make your own sidewalks, one square at a time and let the businesses put their names and logos in the squares? Why does every single thing have to be at taxpayer expense?
The draining issue, the safety issue, these do need to be addressed as Teresa Barth said. No one is suggesting otherwise.
Why don't you do something for yourself, RSPB instead of expecting everyone to do it for you? Your job, you seem to think, is to discredit and put down others.
Are you afraid to touch someone, RSPB? Or are you too gnarly, full of bitterness, disease, and bile? From the way you write, from your assumed persona, from your posts, all you know how to do is to complain about those people who are trying to help, to make a difference.
If our efforts don't fit your agenda, you, hypocrite, label us mentally ill.
Get a mind, and get a heart, fake bum, real jerk. Do you have a problem with multiple personality disorder?
Aloe Vera sounds good, and does help with burns, after ice has been applied.
ReplyDeleteI would never want rspb as an "expert witness."
And if you want to judge someone from reading one article in the UT, why don't you try and attend some of the forums?
Most of the people posting here, have attended the forums, and a whole lot more, hypocrite bum one.
Whaaa, whaaa, the RSPB is picking on us!!!
ReplyDeleteBe nice to us RSPB, we want to keep Leucadia FUNKY!!! We care about Leucadia!!!
Your type of caring has kept Leucadia the shithole it has always been!!!
Staggering down the 101 with a new identity-an expert witness, it's your RSPB!!!
Shithole eh? Fuck you.
ReplyDeleteFuck Me?? Fuck Me??? No JP, Fuck YOU!!
ReplyDeleteWhat part of the alley behind your trailer park isn't a shit hole??? With it's trash and abandoned mattresses. That's where I piss and SHIT at least once each week!
What part of the beaches in Leucadia where thousands go each weekend isn't a shithole?? Tell me!! Where are the restrooms they are using? Perhaps I missed them in my travels up and down Neptune.
I will give you that abandon chairs on Neptune doesn't make it a shithole, an eyesore yes, but a shithole no!!!
Ever travel Revolucion Blvd in TJ?? Go give it a walk some time, I have and guess what??? There are SIDEWALKS on BOTH sides of Calle Revolucion!!! A third world city, in a third world country has sidewalks on the main road through town so it's citizens(proud "peoples" that they are) , don't have to walk in TRAFFIC!!!! Don't have that in SHITHOLE Leucadia do we JP!!!
Me thinks you've been smelling too much Resin JP. Try airplane glue instead gives you a hell of a high but the headache coming down is a bitch!!!
Yeah thinking of TJ gives me an idea, I'll take the coaster/trolley to TJ today and Stagger down Calle Revolucion searching for a cold cerveza!!! It's your RSPB hasta luego!!!
I will give you credit J.P. you only post under 1 name and that's no shit!!
The poster of the bum is doing a good job of turning away any meaningful discuss on city issues with obscenities. Time to 86 the RSPB's postings.
ReplyDeleteCalling Leucadia a shithole is crossing the line.
ReplyDeleteLeucadia will always be disadvantaged because it is a one sided downtown. It's impossible to change that.
The alleyway? I've talked to the El Torito Market guys, the Karina's and 100% Natural crew, all want the alley paved. But who owns it? How do we get it paved without getting the brushoff like my neighbors did when they asked over and over to get it cleaned up.
The city still won't repair the festering alleys in Cardiff, do you think they will fix the ones in Leucadia?
Calling Leucadia a shithole is counter productive. Why don't you try leaving the tourist safe zone of TJ and then you can see what real blight looks like.
