The city bought the 43 acres south of Santa Fe Drive and west of Interstate 5 in 2001 for $17.2 million from one of the city's first flower growers, Robert Hall. The land is commonly called the Hall property.
In ensuing years, the city designed a $35 million park with baseball and softball fields, basketball courts, a teen center, a skate park, a dog park, playgrounds, rest areas and a swimming pool.
If built, it would be the city's largest public park. The first phase, to be financed with proceeds from a $20 million bond issue last year, would include the dog park, restrooms, grassy areas and a possible skate park.

ReplyDeleteSome of us are now realizing the roundabout issue is tied to the Hall Property E.I.R. traffic mitigation issues.
No one can figure out how the roundabout on Santa Fe, which has a D rating now, will improve to an A rating from 2010 to 2030, with so many development projects in the works, including the Brown property development, the hospital expansion, the Hall property park, or as envisioned by the City, the regional sports complex, and much, much more, twenty development projects in the works, at a minimum.
Traffic mitigation projections do not compute!
If you nix the teen center and the aquatic center, it looks good to me.

I agree with the last poster, nix the teen center, we already have one on Balour. The pool is a joke, we have the Pacific Ocean for swimming.

Then the plan looks good.
Nix the lights on the fields too and any plans for regional tournaments. These two things are a big part of the horrendous traffic projections. The Draft EIR says there won't be enough parking on site. If the planned intensive use were reduced considerably, traffic might be more manageable. As is this plan is going to be really tough to get past the Coastal Commission.

The teen center will cost over a million dollars.
