Political forum for seniors, Oct 8th

copy and paste press release:

Nanninga for Encinitas campaign schedules political forum for seniors.

Encinitas – Reaching out to senior voters, Encinitas City Council candidate Bob Nanninga has invited six other candidates to participate in an political forum to discuss issues important to senior members of the community.

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008 , 9:00 – 11:00 Am, at the Encinitas Community and Senior Center candidates Joe Sheffo, Harriet Seldin, Doug Long , Betsy Aceti, Rachelle Collier, Tony Brandenburg will join Bob Nanninga to make the case for change. “Encinitas seniors are high propensity voters, as candidates we need to hear from them as much as they need to hear from us. ”

Hosting the daytime Senior forum, Helen Nielsen -Eckfield will ask candidates prepared questions and facilitate questions from the audience. Intended to meet the informational needs of absentee voters and seniors voting by mail, the public forum is a chance for voters, uncomfortable or unable to drive at night, to meet several candidates up close and personal.

Distinguishing between challengers and incumbents, the field of candidates has been limited to 7 due to time limitations. The event is independently sponsored by the Nanninga For Encinitas campaign.

“This is active 'Get out the Vote' campaigning. Reaching out to voters is more than bulk mailing glossy brochures to a list of likely voters. Campaigning is about meeting the people you hope to represent. Change will only come when people gather on common ground to talk about their issues, that's why I invited other challengers to participate in the dialogue.”

The Encinitas Community and Senior Center is located at 1140 Oakcrest Park Dr. (nearest cross street Encinitas Blvd.) The event will be held in Banquet Hall B.

  1. Does Bob think the government should be or needs to be giving free meals to seniors? How many people are employed in the City of Encinitas just to feed this voting block?

Why not free food for teens?

Why not free food for artists?

  2. Senior citizens should quit whining and starve to death in the their trailer parks with dignity. Vote McCain/Palin.

  3. Starve to death??? Are you s

How prejudiced are you about seniors! You are very insulting to say that seniors are poor and too stupid to figure out how to get food stamps.

You are also a very mean person to not consider all the poor artists salt of the earth types that need to eat too. What about all the street people, they don’t even have a trailer to live in. They need to eat, why not feed them too?

Not everyone that lives in a trailer park is poor by the way.

  4. I just clicked the link for Stocks on this blog and it goes to his insurance webpage -- seems he hold an insurance license under the state of "Califorinia." His offices are in San Diego and Carlsbad -- explains a lot about his priorities and impaired abilities.

  5. anon 9:43 obviously doesn't like the senior supplement program being questioned or challenged. I say, justify the program anon 9:43 or you are just as bad as the republicans.

  7. Have you considered that the people who attend these events don't want to be on the internet on youtube.

Yeah, if any of them are from Carlsbad, they could be on a relocation program.

  11. Bob ... Why only challengers? What's your agenda here? How do you justify a limited invitation forum?

  12. My justification? Seven challengers and a two hour time limit. I invited the challengers as to make the case for change. The three incumbants have had the last 8 years to make thiers.

    It's time for change.

  13. I think it's a good theme for a forum. There will be plenty of community events/forums for all 10 candidates, and any hopeful can arrange their own coffees and meet and greets if they choose. I also like this idea, because already one of the incumbants has tried to glom onto a challenger who is gaining popularity. I really don't see any of the incumbants showing any enthusiasm or energy going into their campaigns like I do with Nanninga or Collier.
