The first Tear Devils was about a bunch of local kids. Those movies helped to define that generation.
Although they were adolescents and were always having a good time by default, they were a highly contentious and respectful bunch.
Many of them still live and work here in Encinitas. They did grow up. They remain contentious and respectful and I still look forward to the days I get to surf with any of those guys.
Wow, most of us in the Teardevils days have jobs (really good ones at that), several degrees attached to our names, kids, houses in the town we grew up in, at the top of our respective industries. I feel sorry for the Anon who can't spell "weird" and the guy who thinks that we were irresponsible when we were 16 defining our own realities and shaping our future lives. And btw....Poway isn't that bad either. But hey, if the anonymous haters who can't put a name to their hate think we were freaks, then I'm happy to be one. All the stucco and remodels in the world can't replace how cool this part of the world was to grow up in and thrive as artists, surfers, musicians, and citizens. And yeah, I voted for Busby.
Didn't mean to bash Poway so hard. It's just that our former City Manager Warren Shaffer, who failed to get Redevelopment to come to Leucadia in the early 90's, quit his job here for greener pastures. Then he became Manager of Poway and guess what? They bought into his Revelopement scheme. Sound familiar? If not, check out what Kerry Miller's been up to in Folsom, CA after he left Encnitas when we circular filed Redevelopment once again. Upper crust Powayans were even paid to come to Encintas a few years ago and promote Redevelopment within our city. I still have their literature. But today at Henry's in the deli I saw their Poway wrap, so there's gotta be something worthy there.
Typical mindless surfer bullshit!!!
ReplyDeleteGrow up, get a job, be responsible!!

There is one shot of me in Tear Devils 2 where Seth Elmer burns me mercilessly at Swamis.
