This issue is not about fire danger. This is about views. The yuppies on the ridge want the existing trees cut down and they know that those saplings will grow up to block their views. Turko fell for it.
Keep the trees. Remove the ugly stucco boxes. I love the whining New York Jewish accent…..oh my God, Trees are bad…. Oh my god, my world is ending….. Go back to NY you whining Jew and save some trees.
I won't be surprised if those little saplings just go missing. Seemed like there were plenty of trees already up there...I say move the saplings to 101 where there aren't any trees. Can't this City ever do anything right!
OK 101 Gurilla gardeners, it's open season on those horribly misplaced, explosive indigenous trees! Lets go get em! Where the hell is that place? I thought the comment that they were to be replaced with "fire-resistant trees" was cute. Especially when the premise is BS about those trees being a fire hazard and it's really only the views that are what matters to those yuppies. But what variety are those fire-resistant trees exactly? Asbestos Celltowerous?
I like how Turko completely washed out Paul Blooms last meaningful remark: "It'll probably cost more tax dollars to take them out than it did to put them in" (Damn right it would), but Turko said "No actually the trees were donated." As if to correct Bloom, and Bloom says "Wow" as though Turko had made a good point. How does that work? Turko must have been a lawyer or a judge in a previous lifetime to effortlessly be able to not properly address such a comment and spin it in a manner that makes him look smarter. And the whiney lady lady, afraid of losing her views, eh er, home to fire, sounds more corn fed than New Yorkish. I could not gleen her religious persuation, but it looked more like a Christian hair do than a Barbara Striesand coif. The loudest and clearest part of the story that was the silent elephant in the room was that Eucalyptus are the ugly stepchild trees that are the expendable ones and they couldn't wait to cut those down, while Torrey Pines are the sacred cows that would be "trimmed until they are dead and replaced with fire-resistant trees". what a croc of crap.
On Wednesday the City Council will adopt a map that will probably place that woman's home in the VERY HIGH FIRE HAZARD ZONE. That should make her more unhappy than just the planting of the trees. Properties that the Council is putting in this zone will have different (read more stringent) building requirements, sellers must disclose the property has been placed in the VHFH zone, landscaping requirements (clearance, setbacks) are different from what is required for property not in the zone, and insurance companies may required more stringent building and landscaping requirement than is required for property not placed in the zone. And, the property insurance costs may increase because of being placed in this zone by the City Council. No one can guarantee that insurance rates won't increase, except Councilman Jerome Stocks. He pooh poohs the possibility of insurance rates increasing. To top it off, the Council and the Fire Chief DO NOT WANT TO NOTIFY THE PROPERTY OWNERS OF THIS MAP.
Excellent analysis on all points Meathead. This is all about the views. How about putting up a fire resistant ten foot wall between the new Torreys and the houses? That should solve the issue for these homeowners, right?
I believe Turko went to law school and may have even passed the bar but obviously his blow hard demeanor would have alienated his clients and co-workers. Clients don't want to pay thousands of dollars just to be told "it ain't right."
Anon 10:24 you have a credibility problem. In the first paragraph you state "sellers must disclose the property has been placed in the VHFH zone" and then you end with "To top it off, the Council and the Fire Chief DO NOT WANT TO NOTIFY THE PROPERTY OWNERS OF THIS MAP"
State law requires the seller of property (not the City Council) to disclose that the property is in the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone.
The City Council and the Fire Chief have decided not to notify property owners about the map. The city does however have a parcel number and address list for properties put into the VHFHS zone. Certainly not transparent government at work. The property owners won't have the benefit to object to their property being classified as more hazardous than their neighbors.
2:04 10:24 is credible because both can be true but at seperate times... The city will not notify the neighborhoods that on ordinance will be passed concerning their high risk location. AND later on when they try to sell their house is when they will learn about it and the corresponding disclosure laws.
11:16 Excellent point. A 20' fire wall might help save all those misplaced houses and make it so they wouldn't have to look at those unsightly trees.
Your right and so is the other poster. That is not an annoying NY Jewish accent. Its definately an annoying whining southern accent. But man is it annoying.
If you haven't noticed, NY Jewish women have their own distinct whine.... It will make your hair stand up on your arms........ much different than other NY accents which can be annoying all in their own....
8:10 Thanks for clearing that up. 8:45 There is nothing prejudicial about the ethnicity or religion of the lady. It's more of a territorial attitude. See below the difference in territorial responses:
New York Lady Turko: When did you first realize the trees were a fire hazzard? NYL: What do I look like, a clock?
Turko: Well I hope things turn out OK. NYL: You should BE so lucky!
Turko: The city sure is taking their time to take action on this aren't they? NYL: Like flies in Vaseline they walk!
Southern Belle answers: Turko: When did you first realize the trees were a fire hazzard? SB: When we's roastin ears n chitlins on the 4th o July.
Turko: Well I hope things turn out OK. SB: MMMM them chitlins was great!
Turko: The city sure is taking their time to take action on this aren't they? SB: Yep! My New York neighbot says theys walkin like bugs in bacon grease. Or sumthin like dat.
Turko dig up those baby Torreys and plant them in Leucadia. Use the power of your sacred mustache mighty one.
ReplyDeleteThis issue is not about fire danger. This is about views. The yuppies on the ridge want the existing trees cut down and they know that those saplings will grow up to block their views. Turko fell for it.
ReplyDeleteThe real issue is that this is bad planning. We should not be building new tracts of homes on the edge or in wildlands.
ReplyDeleteThe 100' buffer is a joke. Most homes burn down because of windborn embers being sucked into the attic vents, not direct flames on stucco.
I will say the fire chief is that rare combination of competence and intelligence.
Keep the trees. Remove the ugly stucco boxes. I love the whining New York Jewish accent…..oh my God, Trees are bad…. Oh my god, my world is ending….. Go back to NY you whining Jew and save some trees.
ReplyDeleteplant torreys on 101!! Great idea

ReplyDeleteAnon 7:57- Does this discussion really have to turn that ugly? If so, post your name on it.

ReplyDeleteWhich is it?
anon 2:04-no credibility problem.
ReplyDeleteTwo different issues:
State law requires the seller of property (not the City Council) to disclose that the property is in the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone.
The City Council and the Fire Chief have decided not to notify property owners about the map. The city does however have a parcel number and address list for properties put into the VHFHS zone.

clear all homes within 100 feet of brush...

Turko when to law school. Jerome went to high school. Why is the dummy our council member and the lawyer a rag time reporter.
ReplyDeletewhy does religion make a difference, obviously it is a whiney woman...let's get real about the prejudice here

This lady's annoying whine is clearly southern.
I am glad she's not my neighbor.

Meathead, are you some closet burger? Are you an In-N-Out type or a Big Mac?

ReplyDeleteSorry, I'm vegan, live at the gym, and many times I agree with Michael Stivic instead of Archie Bunker.

ReplyDeleteBut we can have coffee sometime if you just want to chat.
You might be a vegan but you're still a meathead
