City council by a 5-0 vote stops dragging their feet and ends their legal games.
According to inbound text messages, the council said they will "explain" everything and "correct" all the "misinformation" next week in open session.
The draft report has been released.
No word on the written communication between the city and the contractor.

The proper language is "explain why we did the wrong thing and explain how they will do better in the future."
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of the wrong thing...the crews were out today painging over the "NO ART" signage where the Surfing Madonna was. Too bad they missed the gang tagging on the other wall across the street.
ReplyDeleteSo exactly what is in the draft report that the City paid thousands to keep under wraps ? Would someone that has the time [and access] to this elusive report please spill the beans ?
ReplyDeleteI am very proud of Kevin Cummins and his courage in addressing this local social justice issue. I'm sure he will be embarrassed by the comparison, but it reminds me of when Henry David Thoreau was sent to jail for refusing to pay a poll tax!
ReplyDeleteAlso, hats off to our dynamic artistic community for not allowing City Council and City staff define artistic values for this city. While I do not claim to be an expert on art, I only know that my life has been enriched by the generosity and creative artistic expression of those who create beauty and wonder in our community. I was one who was not a fan of the Cardiff Kook until it was enhanced by these artists. Also, I was among those who loved the Madonna as an image of beauty with a strong reminder to save our oceans! Art has often played a role in politics, and I think that someone will have enough material to write a book on this local issue by the time the next election rolls around!
Why don’t they (Council and staff) just stick to their own job responsibilities and try to have the best city government and serve the voters and taxpayers through improved performance. It is not like anyone is impressed by the leadership or even the basic skill level demonstrated, and the only praise I hear is that from developers and what they give one another.
The weak link in Encinitas is City Hall, employee unions, and the developers, who see our community as a golden goose. Other than that, we have an almost perfect community.
Maybe it is too early to tell, but I am thankful that Gus at least values hard work, unlike the often missing in action Phil Cotton.
