We are reminded of her everywhere, from the woodie show, to SNAP, the San Elijo Lagoon, Quail Gardens...She was a positive force until the very end, and never let petty politics drag her down. Her detractors seemed small after awhile, measured against her ceaseless activity to better the city for all its citizens. We have work to do to honor her efforts and maintain her legacy.
I was a newcomer to Encinitas when our neighborhood brought forth an issue before the council. The issue became contentious and divided our neighborhood. While the other council members either pandered to the angry crowd or quietly backed down, Maggie was the only one with the courage to speak out against the lack of decorum and ask for civility. I remember thinking this woman has the heart of a lion and a low tolerance for nonsense. We need more like her in public office, she will surely be missed.
Maggie was an original, talented, and generous woman. She will be greatly missed.
