That is an artist rendering of the Traffic Engineer's proposed solution to handle the traffic loads at Encinitas Blvd and HW101 10 years from now after Smartgrowth and the affordable housing overlay are fully implemented. The six lanes on HW101 are going to reek havic with downtown Encinitas's small town feel.
Thank God Leucadia Blvd. is only one lane in each direction and zoned to stay that way. The wider the street the more damage to the Community safety and character.

I suggest you start a petition to tell the city council to leave leucadia alone and see how many people feel like you do. I for one don't and the changes planned will only make our community a better place to live.
Amigo RSPB: Roundabouts don't work fine in Mexico. In Tijuana all of them on main streets have stoplights or stop signs. What's the point then? The four big ones on Paseo de los Heroes look like the Chinese one, except more controlled with the stoplights or stop signs. The newest nightmare is the planed 1100 new homes just back of SEH which will pore an additional 1500 cars through the community. It is time that someone from the city, a council member or two perhaps put their two cents in about some traffic mitigation money from thios increase because it will directly effect our current traffic flow. We probably can't stop it cause the developers have their way, especially in San Marcos, but there is no reason not to ask for a million or two a year from them for traffic flow mitigation. If they say no then the first round-about should be replaced by a toll plaza for non residents without resident transponder. Better yet a toll plaza on RSR just before the home depot. Really.

You like the aesthetics, which is fine. But we can get the most bang for our taxpayer buck by considering the capital improvements already underway before rushing willy nilly into another ill-conceived mess.
We are supposed to be getting sidewalks on 101. We can lobby to get them along Leucadia Blvd, too. There is no rule that says no roundabouts, then no sidewalks and no planted center medians.

Some of the bloggers would appreciate living in the desert. Nothing ever changes there except the wind blown sand. It stays funky all year around.
The infidels came in and found oil and changed our culture. With my new found culture I came to Funky Leucadia. I have seen change and know that it is not bad. Those in the desert that didn't want change are still in their tents and riding their camels. I guess the people that don't want change can still ride camels in Leucadia.

Gil I like your idea. If not a toll both, we could neck down Olivenhain to one lane going west to El Camino Real and Leucadia Blvd. That will fix the problem.
I'd put money on the prospect that only 1 roundabout will be built in the first phase of improvements for Leucadia Blvd.
After the construction documents are complete and reviewed, the project will be bid. We all know what happens then. The bids will be significantly higher than the monry allocated, and the project will be slashed down to size eliminating one roundabout.
There would be too much public outcry in Leucadia if something wasn't built, so the project couldn't be postponed or eliminated. Simply whacked.

Roundabouts are super funky. That is why I like them.
