Deadwood

From Fred Caldwell: "This tree was completely dead for over 10 years, yet neither the railroad nor the city thought it was a danger. How did the "arborists" miss this one? Only in Encinitas do we cut down live trees while ignoring completely dead ones standing right next to them. Geesh."

  2. "When logic and proportion
    Has fallen sloppy dead
And the white knight is talking backwards
And the Red queen's off her head
    Go ask Aice,
    I think she'll know"

When the truth is known to truth is known to be lies."

WTF? Since when is a garbled Grace Slick lyric supposed to be meaningful?

  4. Not to beat a dead tree, errr, I mean horse, into the ground, but this whole Orpheus Park tree incident - and behind the scenes shennanigans with Houlihan and the City Hall folks, has got me down - and a wee bit pissed.
Folks, please take interest and stay abreast of the Leucadia 101 Specific Plan and attend workshops and write Diane Langager, City Planner, at the City of Encinitas. Inside word is many of our Eucalyptus trees are comin down. How did Maggie get to her position?!!

  5. More than the trees already listed?

  6. What I think Dr. Lorri was getting at with her colorful quote is that logic has fallen sloppy dead. Good call.

  7. I forgot the most important part. This tree blew down! Luckily the wind was blowing east.

  8. Thank you Fred. At least there are some intelligent people still left in this town. Anon. 12:05 did you ever think I might have quoted the Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit that way for a reason? Would you like me to recite the whole thing from memory. I am old enough to do it. Let's try this one on for size "To live outside the law you must be honest". A Dylan song, in case you don't happen to know it. Give $5.00 for anyone who can give me the name of the song and the album-yes I said album- on which it was recorded. No cheating on it though. Perhaps you don't get that analogy either. Perhaps you should either 1) stop posting or 2) know that I know my lyrics to these songs and deliberately mess with them. It's kind of fun. At least some people get it.

  9. Looks like it was on RR property so, therefore, was not a question of City liability. What we have here is a jurisdictional issue. (Emphasis on Dick.)

  10. "We are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion: the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission; which is the stage of the darkest periods of human history, the stage of rule by brute force. "

  17. I think we are even Mary. I am so glad someone knows Dylan out there, even on the second try. I am actually have a Facebook contest with two friends that don't live around here. It is all Dylan. I think he has said everything that could ever apply to almost any situation, including the Great Tree Debacle. I won't quote it though because I have already said too much or too little. I think I have a Letter to the editor coming out in this Friday's Coast News. They called me today to see if I really written it. I have never written a letter to them before, so I don't know if it means anything or not.Maybe they just couldn't believe I wrote it in the first place. We shall see. It will really show my knowledge of old songs in that letter. BTW-close on the lyrics. It's "He whose not busy being born, is busy dying." However, I could be wrong on that one and you may be right. I'm too lazy right now to check it out.

  18. Lest I not be scorned again, let me repeat my grammatical error on my second sentence of the last e-mail. I should have said "I am actually HAVING a Facebook contest----. I couldn't stand the humiliation once more. Uh oh-another error. After I, it should have been "had really written it." Think that's all for the "grammar police squad".

  20. Dear Dr. Lorri: I have all the Dylan albums recreated on CD which I still listen to. And, I was going to pick Blonde on Bond, but remembered just in time that Jim Bond wasn't part of that, although he probably remembers he was. Anyway, I am glad you are back, this blog hasn't been the same without your steadfast howl of truth admist the braying of asses. Anyway, the City gardening unit and all important decision gooks hired a really smart arborist who declared "it's not merely dead, it's really sincerely dead." Guess this City doesn't need a proclamation to kill live trees.

  22. Dr. Lorri,

If you're going to continue choosing to communicate by garbling other peoples' words, you may want to educate yourself to the difference between an analogy, simile, and mixed metaphor, so that "some people" will continue to "get it", as you so eloquently opined.

Your letter to the editor is awaited with bated breath.

  23. YOU GUYS ARE WASTING YOUR TIME ON THIS ISSUE.

  26. You are a coward, anonymous, trying to distract from the legitimate issues raised here.

Are Jerome Stocks and Dan Dalager on dope? I know that both of them have that reputation, from the past, anyway.

  27. The Latino worker cutting it down, said the tree at the Pannikin was dead. He said the people from the Pannikin had it removed.

That was a beautiful tree, too, and I never noticed that it was dead. The south side of the Pannikin looks so bare, now.

  28. Parks Superintendent John Frenken needs to be fired. He is the best friend of the arborist and the worst enemy to trees in Encinitas.

Cut the real dead wood, Cut John Frenken.
