Repost: Why doesn't Encinitas have a 4th of July fireworks display???

Originally posted on this blog in 2009,

We have been a city since 1986 and still no official fireworks display for the 4th of July. Dear city leaders, you spend a lot of money on pet projects and always speak of how Encinitas is a family friendly city. Get it together and organize a fireworks barge off Moonlight Beach.

*In addition: Moonlight Beach is the perfect place to host a fireworks show. People could watch from down on the beach, downtown Encinitas streets and from the library. There are many viewpoints around town that could see the show, like Orpheus park. It would be a lot of fun. It's sad how the power trio city council of Dalager, Stocks and Bond have failed year after year to bring a fireworks show to Encinitas. Comon' guys, there is still time, get one going.
OR DO YOU HATE AMERICA THAT MUCH?

  1. Revision should be made:

Dear city leaders, you spend a lot of money on your own pensions and pet employee pensions and always speak of how Encinitas is a family friendly city.....

    What gives?

  2. I couldn't agree with jp more on this topic. Who should organize. Perhaps dema it will bring business into the city and increase sales tax dollars.

  3. I'm actually relieved we don't have one. Having lived previously in OB and Downtown it gets to be a mad house with tourists. Plus, we've now got info that the compounds in the fireworks are highly toxic.

We should put that money towards something we can use year round like a park or bike lanes, etc.

  4. Marco would sue us like he everywhere else. We can't afford it.

  5. Anon 7:40 - you beat me to it. As long as Marco is around there is no point in even bringing this up.

  6. 7:40 and Bart- You both beat me to it. I wish Marco would give the facts as to why fireworks are so bad for the environment. Maybe then I would change my mind about it. He does seem a bit crazy on this subject.

  7. Marco hates the 4th of July because he is Mexican. Which is weird because all the Mexicans in my neighborhood love the 4th and love fireworks. Maybe Marco just hates himself.

  8. Marcos sister is Lorena Gonzales. Google her and you will see that she is not just in bed with union labor, she is very busy under the covers! Fireworks are of no benefit to unions, they are made in china. Fireworks shows are of no benefit to union workers because they cant control the shows.

IMHO Marco likes the attention that his off base belief system brings him much like the kook lawyer that loves to fight the cross on Mt. Soledad.

He has soiled the Surfrider Foundation to the point that they have lost credibility and membership.

Other than that he is, well I cant think of anything nice to say so I'll shut up.

9:44- An American of Mexican ancestry who runs around calling himself a Mexican is called a "Pocho".

Mexicans in Mexico hate Pochos, but not as much as they hate Pinche Pochos.

Pinche Pochos are the people Mexicans hate the most, they run around calling themselves Mexicans to garner sympathy for themselves.

Then finally, you have the Pinche Puto Pochos. They are all of the above and they surf!!!

Know anyone in town like that???

  11. Marco is a lousy surfer also. Slow, aggressive, and in-the-way.

  16. funny that this is in of all places wikipedia

"In San Diego/Tijuana, "pocho" carries no negative connotations. The word simply refers to one who has both Mexican and American roots."

Of course, anyone can make entries into wiki...

  19. Fireworks on these pages are not the same as in the sky. Page fireworks are fun to read sky fireworks are fun to watch. Let's go for sky fireworks at Moonlight Beach for the fourth. NoTaxlady has it right. DEMA should sponsor like the street fair.

  20. Particularly lawyers that hate what America stands for. like our right to celebrate with fireworks, our right to desalinate sea water and our right to keep some of our own money and not be taxed to death.

I have no confidence in the city to do the correct and proper thing at any time.

Why can' they water the flowers in the center median of 101 south of Europa??

Why are the flowers south of Europa dead or dying?? All the other flowers in the center medians of 101 are doing much better than these.

Damn city hires idiots as landscape contractors and they want to do as little as needed and still suck that big govt $$$.

Good riddance to Cotton, Dalager and all the other yahoos on the council and staff that everyday seek ways to do as little as possible and still suck that govt teat.

  24. It's not Marcos fault we don't have fireworks. It's the fault of the holier than thou city council and staff. Why didn't Miss Patriot herself Christy Guerin ever organize fireworks? Why can't Maggie pull one together? Danny Dalager aka Mr Small Town USA can't get a 4th of July fireworks event organized after all there years?
    PATHETIC.

  25. Quail Botanical Gardens should host the fireworks display in Encinitas. They're centrally located with an altitude of 300ft, so almost everyone in town could enjoy them. It wouldn't hurt their attendance numbers either. Opps, I mean San Diego Botanical Gardens.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Meathead-That's a great idea. I cannot imagine what Marco could sue us for if it was held there. Although he might think of something.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wikipedia starts by saying pocho is a pejorative term. This is the usual way it is used in Mexico. I have never heard it used as a compliment in Tijuana by a Mexican.

On the San Diego side it is different, but that's only because it is the pocho talking about himself. The Mexican use of the word reflects the perceived arrogance of the pocho.

  30. Lots of big words from anonymous posters, as usual...

Anyone who wants to know why I oppose fireworks over water WHEN THEY DON'T HAVE REQUIRED PERMITS can come by my office (1140 S. Coast Hwy 101, you know where it is) and check out the Sea World monitoring data. Or, send me your email and I'll send copies over.

The point is, the results show exactly what we thought -- elevated levels of toxic metals (especially copper and barium) in the water column and sediment, spikes in percholorate, and statistically significant increases in benthic toxicity correlating with the timing of fireworks shows.

Seriously, if you want to know who I am and why I do this, come and talk to me instead of these silly posts.

And btw, I think quail gardens would be a fine place for an inland fireworks display. In fact, I'll contribute the first $500 if someone decides to organize it.

    - Marco

ps- I'll be happy to show you my pink surfboard collection anytime as well.

  31. Encinitas is an environmental leader, why would the City take a giant step backwards when new data is proving fireworks = toxic pollution? Encinitas also offers an incredible array of family friendly events throughout the year and has nothing to prove in that department.

Patriotism and family fun don't have to involve big noises and pretty colors.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Maybe the city could use the money they took from the san diego county fair to hang banners in our city to fund the fireworks.

    how much did they get?

  35. Marco,
I don't know why you would take the chance of a brush fire in the field where they launch the balloons over less than $1 of pre-1982 worth of copper in the surf at Moonlight. However, I appreciate that, rather than just saying no to the fireworks, you embraced the alternative and ran with it. I am in for $100 for the Quail Garden show.

  36. Check out the required distance from the houses surrounding Quail Gardens. Those are big skyrockets. If you have ever seen one of them fail to go up and instead go into the crowd, you might reconsider having them in close proximity to houses and people.

  37. Right on Marco... I will donate $100 as well as anon.

these pussies are probably friends of Jerome stocks. Fat pussies.

  39. Hypocrite is a good definition of most lawyers including marco. Drives a car, lives in a house, uses the heater and AC, water from the Colorado, sends his sewer in the ocean, rides a foam and fiberglass surfboard, buys most everything made in China and then is a whore who sues just for the income. Sorry to whores everywhere for lumping you in with marco.

    ReplyDelete
  40. thats true. Lawyers are whores almost as bad as Politicians. Check out the statistics. Countries with higher pecentage of lawyers, have lower gross national products. No wonder America is in the tank. We have some many leaches instead of Citizens that add value in are society. Sad but true. Lawyers and Politicians are leaches.

  44. Marco and Bart:

Very generous offers. But it looks like no good deed goes unpunished on this string. The wheels of local permititude probably don't turn quickly enough for a display at QBG this late anyway, but who knows about next year.

  47. I would hope that most of the comments posted on this blog are in gest. If your personal attacks on others is sincere you have not read the rules. Good not evil. Negative comments provide negative solutions. it is easy to attack what you don't understand. All you haters out there in blog land, provde no facts and have no real positive solutions for Encinitas. 48. I echo Anon 11:07 sentiments. We can have a few laughs, but must we do it at other people's expense. For example, Marco Gonzales has done a lot of good for the environment, but some of you love to rip him apart. He can defend himself, but I, for one, am tired of Marco trashing. He does more for the environment than most of us ever do. And their firm, Coast Law Group, gave a $1500.00 donation for Encinitas Environment Day. They didn't have to do that, and lots of local business said NO. He is also not an elected official, so I personally don't think the same rules apply to him as they do to the Council or City employees who we pay with our taxes. There, I have said my piece. Go ahead an trash me now. Please put your name on it though. It is not that difficult to find out who you are anyway.

  49. Dr Lori, what concerns me most is that there seems to be a meaness creeping into the fabric of this city that is very unproductive to everyone who lives here. It is becoming a me first mentality and not in my backyard community. We all love living in Encinitas because of it's diversity and eclectic laid back lifestyle. Why can't we agree to disagree and move on in a positive way people.
    Don't hate, participate. Peter

  50. BP gives ahuge amount to good causes. They must be great to Dr. Lori. What do your dog and cat clients think about that.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Anon:850: My dog and cat clients are not at all fond of B.P. right now. They are killing animals with their greed. My human clients aren't much happier. And, personally, I am boycotting all B.P. products, such a Vallero Gas, Arco Gas and some 7-11's that sell their gas. Thanks for letting my clients weigh in. Had to ask before I could get back you. So, no, B.P. is not great.
P.S. To should have been spelled Too in case you wanted my thoughts on your spelling as well. Be safe out there and please come to Encinitas Environment Day today. It's fun to meet all of our local citizens and posters on this great blog.
