  4. One person's argument against the recent striping for a safer bike path on 101, was to put the path on the RR right of way next to the hwy. Indeed, for many years a cohesive Rail Trail was planned for North County and recently the local section of it was approved by our Planning Commission. I agreed with the position that the RR propery trail would be far safer than the newest configuration of bikes next to cars (even thogh the new 101 bike lanes are far safer than before). However, what the person neglected to tell everyone is that the recently approved Rail Trail plan is nowhere near the tracks in Leucadia. It instead however is approved for Saxony and a bridge over the freeway on Union St. Forget where it goes after that, but remember it's not along the hwy. Don't know if the person(s) making that claim knew the approved route or not, just setting the record straight either way.

  5. Saxony? WTH- Are you sure you don't mean Vulcan?

WTH would the rail trail be along Vulcan?

  6. The BMP update, approved by the Planning Commission and recently cancelled, without a date for bringing it back to Council, was for a bicycle lane in the rail trail from Chesterfield to La Costa, in the railroad right of way.

There may be another bicycle lane planned for Saxony, but that is not the same one that has been approved since 2005, and re-approved, by the PC on 1/17/13, unanimously, detailed in the most recent Bicycle Materplan Update.

  7. The bike trail Fred alludes to is the North Coast Bike Trail outlined in the draft SANDAG/CalTrans proposal for the improvements to the rail corridor and interstate 5. The proposal is available for comments now, and has several open meetings scheduled April 3rd and 4th.
