That's been a slow landslide forever. I remember that 25 years ago the base of that trail was 15' further west, and the remains of previous stabilization efforts were visible. Every year or so a chunk of the trail gets rebuilt. The sea is using these bluffs to get more sand. In 50 years the parking lot will be gone, in 100 years King Neptune Avenue will be in the water. They can argue all they want but the ocean will prevail.
If I remember right the coastal commission said money slated for the area could not be used because it was such a danger and that money was redirected to improve moonlight.
You remember wrong. Staff fucked it all up and demanded an unnecessary sea wall. Greg Shields and any other old timer with backward ass thinking should be fired yesterday.
The coastal commission had no doing with the money transfer to moonlight beach, that was all staff's doing. Beacons Beach bluff should be a marvelous pedestrian vista instead of the shitty parking lot with a 4 foot sidewalk and truck bumpers bumping everyone who walks to the beach. What a waste.
