East Encinitas Declared Blighted Due to Evil Weevils
Root weevil found in Encinitas
By: JO MORELAND - Staff Writer
ENCINITAS -- Five ugly bugs found this week on two streets in Encinitas are prompting a request for an agricultural quarantine in the area, authorities said Friday.
This is a very bad pest. It is very distinctive in appearance and should be easily identified by gardeners and homeowners. It is very important to report it's presence in your yards if you find it. It can be controlled and eliminated if the infestation is caught early enough. It is a very slow mover, usually carried into a new areas on landscape plant cuttings from an infected area. If you have a landscaper servicing your home, ask them to please not arrive at your house with trimmings from some other home. These pests are poor flyers and can be controlled. They attack over 200 types of landscape material in addition to citrus.
I wonder of this the Ecke revenge? Can it have anything to do with vampires bringing them in? Are they illegal immigrants and La Migra should have caught them?
If I was a weevil which City Councilperson would I go to for support? Perhaps those that supported turning ag land into homes.

FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT HEARD, THE CITY COUNCIL IS CONSIDERING CUTTING THE N. COAST HWY BEAUTIFICATION FUNDING BY $300,000. PER YEAR, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE ASK THE CITY TO RECONSIDER THIS DROP IN FUNDING FOR OUR STREETSCAPE. THIS IS A QUALITY OF LIFE ISSUE. PLEASE, BEFORE WEDNESDAY'S MEETING CALL ONE OR ALL CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS AND ASK THEM TO RECONSIDER FUNDING FOR LEUCADIA. PLEASE ASK THE CITY COUNCIL NOT TO PUT LEUCADIA ON THE BACK BURNER AGAIN....WE ARE A STRONG COMMUNITY AND THE CITY COUNCIL MUST BE REMINDED OF THAT. WHILE IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO BALANCE A BUDGET, WE DO NOT WANT TO BE PLACED AT THE END OF THE LIST, NOR DO WE WANT MONEY FOR LEUCADIA STEERED TOWARD OTHER PROJECTS. THE PEOPLE OF LEUCADIA HAVE DONE A LOT TO MAKE THIS A BETTER PLACE . A CITY INVESTMENT IN INFRASTRUCTURE WILL HAVE A HIGH RATE OF RETURN CONSIDERING THE INCREASE IN FUTURE SALES TAX, TOT AND PROPERTY TAX REVENUE RESULTING FROM COMPLETION OF IMPROVEMENTS - NOT TO MENTION THE IMPROVED QUALITY OF LIFE FOR ALL ENCINITAS RESIDENTS AND TOURISTS.

Thanks for the info and also their phone numbers. Maybe phone calls will motivate them, as e-mails certainly don't.
Anyone checked lately on the reason why Jennifer Smith is the Finance Director? Was there a national search, as there is supposed to be, as this is a government agency? A friend of mine, who is the Finance Director for a City in Orange County said she didn't see anything posted on the website she checks. Interesting!Might make an interesting story J.P.
A political debate between Dietmar and myself would put you to sleep. We are both too wordy and tend to cite facts rather than rhetoric. It just wouldn't be much fun or very easy digest in one quick sitting. It would have to be issue oriented because I am not a political animal. It would be far better to have Danny, Christy, Bruce, Kevin, Matt, Jerry, and any other potential council aspirants debate, with Dietmar on the panel asking questions. Don't wait till November to set this up, start to work the site and format now.
If we improve N.101 where is RSPB going to sleep? I recall a picture from this blogsite that has him sleeping where a sidewalk might go. Bad idea to put in a sidewalk and displace RSPB. We need him for color.
To Anonymous who wants us to call our Councilmembers to request a project on 101:
Why do you want to change Leucadia? Who are you? You obviously are not from Leucadia. You must have an agenda of some type. Please leave Leucadia and especially 101 alone. Once you start trying to beautify it it will never be the same. Don't fix anything! Just leave it alone. Just because we like to complain about things doesn't mean we want it to change. We are just people who don't really have a life so we like to complain to our government and blame them for all that is wrong in our lives. Just becuase we do this does not mean we want anything. Just tell us to go away and get a life.
A City Manager has at his discretion the authority to hire anyone he wants to as a director of a department without doing a public recruitment process. This is done quite often at upper level management in most cities. In fact, I believe most of the current directors at Encinitas were hand selected by the City Manager as opposed to an outside review panel. Directors can also be fired on the spot as well if they are not performing to the level of the City Manager's liking.
One thing for certain is change. Change will come whether we like it or not. Just like my grey pubic hair. The question is will Leucadia preserve and enhance its beachy funky artistic town qualities or become a run down shit hole like Oxnard or the LA Beach Cities. Do we want to preserve some peacefulness, as referred to in the meaning of Leucadia, or do we want to become an extension of I5 and serve as a driveway to Carlsbad’s new PONTO BOXES and Villages of the BOXES. It’s up to us… Maybe, some of us lonely whiners will get a life and do something to promote a positive future for Leucadia. Naaa.. I’ll just stick my head in the sand, wish it was like 30 years ago, and prey that all the new comers of the last 30 years will just move away.
Perhaps if we can get the weevil from east encinitas to Leucadia they can eat all the ugly trees along 101. Then Bossypants and lawnmowerman can declare the area a disater area. When that happens FEMA can relocate all the residents to expensive san diego hotels until they can be replaced and the streets resurfaced, sidewalks and curbs put in. RSPB could move to the Marriot for a few months where he can drink fine liqour at taxpayers expense versus thunderbird from sell ing aluminum cans.
Alejandro could move him and all his cousins and other family members into one room at the Hayatt next door to Francine Busby.
This gets more fun as we think about the possibilities. That weevil can really be a fun guy.
I hang out at Captain Keno's most of the time. Occasionally I venture to the beach at beacons for a late night bottle. I have even shared a bottle with RSPB at roadside park. So try any of these places late and perhaps I will recogonize a brute.

STOP the weevil and their supporters!!
Hey rspb can you look for us in the park? Perhaps there are areas near the ground you could inspect as you wake up in the morning.
ReplyDeleteGil is sharp but Dietrmar can kick his ass in a city politics debate.
ReplyDeleteHave we really degraded ourselves to the level of "my activist can beat up your activist"?
ReplyDeleteMaybe I need to quit this blog and go back to the Lifetime Channel for my daily wisdom and enlightenment!
More Prozac, we are always coming and going here.
ReplyDeleteI hope we don't get "quarantined" next!
I like Golden Girls on Lifetime. ha ha. Here's a pearl of "wisdom" for you. Full moon in Sagitarius leads to wanderlust.
The audio post is hiarious, JP, on this one, too.
