Encini0tas is going to be the last City to ban Cigarette butt throwing on their beach. Has El Cajon passed an ordinance yet banning smoking in its parks?

JP ... How about a photo of how The old Mayfair/City Hall handled the same slope a few hundred feet to the south? It reminds me of an old Joni Mitchell song about paving paradise and putting up a parking lot.
I don't smoke, but when I walk along the beach south to Swami's, north to Grandview, I see more STRAWS than butts. Also, I see more balloons with ribbons attached than butts.
People should be able to smoke pipes on the beach, yes? Those don't have butts. The people I know who smoke take their butts with them, with their trash.
I always pick up as much trash as I can on my beach walks.
The City should not give permits to build on unstable cliffs. This is what engineers and inspectors should be for, to determine where it is safe to build.
People, outside, on the beach, are not endangered by side-smoke. Let's stop trying to micro manage and control everyone through more and more laws, less and less personal choice. Arrest people for littering, if you must. Leave them be on the public beaches re smoking.

When did those condos get built on that cliff edge? That is a great example of the planning department letting a developer get away with something that is a time bomb for the homeowners and the city. That wall is going to look fake and ugly. It will not improve the feel of Encinitas.
I agree with personal freedoms, unfortunately the majority of smokers are ignorant lawbreaking polluters. A bunch of rotten butts spoil the pleasure of smoking on the beach for all. Just like a few irresponsible dog owners that don't pickup the poop on the beach and parks ruin it for the whole bunch.
I like the fact that Jerome is opposed to the ban. It will give more people the reason to vote someone else into office next year.
Most people, in genereal, are inclined to be lazy and do what is easiest. Picking your battles may help win the war. There are more emergent fronts than micromanaging everyones refuse habits. Let the schools handle that. Education is the key.
So how does that bluff sand convert over time into the hard black surface known as the road? Is that another mysto process of ersion like the tan sand of the bluffs changing color into the grey and black sand of our beaches?
I thought the Surfrider foundation opposed reenforcement of bluffs?? -Did they file a lawsuit against the homeowners associatiion?? -Won't this destabilize the bluff under the hotel and Tomiko?? -Where is Mr.Cardiff and what is his opinion regarding this situation? -Did the owners consider how this will affect the surf?? -What affect does riding the face of a wave have on the shape of that wave and does it cause the wave to break different on the beach VS how the wave would break on the beach without someone riding that wave?? -What studies have be done to support the notion that riding a wave has No affect on how a wave breaks and the subsequent sand sabilization or depletion from the beach??

I would say that riding a wave changes the wave only in the fact that the lip, behind the surfer, gets a little (infinitesimally little) less defined and, therefor, breaks with less definition and/or focused strength. Mushier, if you will.
How mushy waves affect the sand on the beach, I don't know. Slower to remove the sand, I'd guess. Slower to push new sand up, though, as well.
I guess this rules out a couple of people whom I thought could the Roadside Bum, mainly a few of the guys at Beacons, who would never ask such a sub-kook question.
A good question. Are the real culprits in beach erosion the surfers? Are the messy, trashy beaches a result of the surfers? Maybe we should ban surfing.

That cliff needs to erode naturally in order to replenish the road. The houses should have never been built there in the first place.

I think I understand the question. Riding waves does not impact the sand bottom which forms the waves.
