  2. This will make Leucadia a pedestrian friendly place with prosperous, family-owned small businesses. We'll keep a healthy tree canopy. Will it happen? I have hope, but know that the city is embroiled in lawsuits.

  3. A strange thing is happening. The old grumpy locals are uniting with the new Encinitas power brokers who hate Leucadia and will block any improvements. The street scape will not happen and in 10 years the Encinitas elite who hate Leucadia will force out the old grumpy locals by forming a redevelopment agency. People will continue to die in car crashes in front of the Panikan and all the trees will be long gone.

  4. Go ahead and move.

Because most Leucadians do not favor any of the alternatives, does not mean we do not love Leucadia.

There are good reasons that long time Leucadians do not favor five roundabouts in just over two miles, and do not favor narrowing a main highway to only one lane northbound, which WOULD divert traffic to Neptune and Vulcan.

Because many disagree with your position does not make them "old grumpy locals." And I don't blame anyone for being grumpy at the way citizens have been treated by the three man majority on Council.

Hiring an out of area "consultant" which is pro development and heavy on the PR spin, slide shows, etc., at a cost of over $300,000, just to hold workshops and to design from A street to North Court, on 101, is not a good start.

Meanwhile, more trees are scheduled to be cut down in January. Some of that money could have gone to hiring a real expert, someone with a four year degree, at least, a botanist, not just someone who has a vocational certificate, which allows him to cut down trees. An arborist is trained to cut down trees, primarily, not to preserve them.

    With due respect,
I do not agree that most leucadians do not favor the options available for this long waited improvement.
Five roundabouts in 2.3 miles is not a lot. We have three on Leuc blvd in four blocks and the only place that traffic backs up is the stop sign and nobody avoids them and uses other streets. Santa Fe is planning 5 roundabouts in less than a quarter mile to manage traffic in the most effecient manner.
Pelts and Assoc. Are bases in Solana Beach, not too much out of the area, and is a very respected firm. They are using massive public input to guide their plans that include the entire corridor. If we want a tree canopy in our future, is is essential to have the space to plant tree on the east side.NCTD will not plant and maintain trees in their right of way. Have they replaced any trees? The one lane north will offer space to recreate the canopy, offer parking oppertunities, safe bike lanes and would certainly be more convienent than Neptune.
The plan begins in the south, but once the plan for the entire streach is completed, we can begin to plant trees up north when we know where the can go.
If we leave things alone we will continue to have an unsafe area with the eucs at the end of their life span, felled and no places to replant more appropriate trees.
Please try to keep on open mind.

Your comments mirror someone as uninformed and grumpy as our very own town idiot.

Are you kidding? Peltz is a local Solana Beach firm and Mike Peltz actually lives in Encinitas. You can't get more local than that.

Most of us Leucadia know the existing roadway is unsafe and needs to be fixed. It’s not right that people race through Leucadia without regard to our community and harm and kill our citizens.

Keep up the great work City. You always have a few that hate any kind of change, ever when it is sooooo good. This project is no different. Leucadia has its small group of grumps that hate change even if it would raise the quality of life and make Leucadia even more positively funky for future generations.

  7. I think the commenter was talking about Dan Burdon who is a lot flash and a motivational speaker type. There is substance underneath it but a number of observant and nondrooling leucadians caught that he was not keeping track of feedback and comments very well.

  8. 8:49 - I think the consultants are doing a great job of getting input and molding the plan to the the realities of what they have to work with and the desire of residents, property owners, and businesses.

    What process do you propose?

  9. Yo - Anon: How much are you being paid to post the PR spin for developers on this blog? I can tell your posts from the first five words -- strictly canned and/or personal attacks.

  10. Wormtongue- No PR spin, I just like what’s happening.

Too bad your such a grumpy naysayer of any change.

I would hate to have your attitude in life. Must suck to be you.

    Peace out,

  11. Dan Burdens role on the team was to show what some areas have done to make their communities more peaceful and increase the quality of life in the area.

The Peltz team was tracking and recording the feedback from the community.

All of the Peltz team including Dan did, and are doing, an outstanding job.

  12. Doesn't the project belong to all of Encinitas, it sure sounds as if Leucadia is the only player here!

No wonder Leucadia can't get anyone elected - they speak only for Leucadia.

  13. Why are we spending hundreds of thousands of tax dollars to create a "walkabout" plan for a few property owners? The final cost will be 30-50 Million dollars or more. Just for property owners on one side of 1o1. This is just way too much money that benefits just a few making it look like another handout.

  14. "There are good reasons that long time Leucadians do not favor five roundabouts in just over two miles, and do not favor narrowing a main highway to only one lane northbound, which WOULD divert traffic to Neptune and Vulcan."

Then someone should tell the city that Peltz is lying when they say that in other cities they have proven that roundabouts INCREASE circulation, and DECREASE accidents? I don't think so. The claim (at the Chamber's meeting) aimed at scaring the Vulcan and Neptune people was not true. Traffic never backs up from Marchetta St to past Encinitas Blvd - let alone "two or three times a month" as Bradley Allen claimed. The REAL thing that makes traffic back up at all at Marchetta St. (and it does to a degree) IS the stop sign. And as long as someone claimed that roundabouts aren't authentic to 101 I'd like to add that neither are stop signs nor stop lights, until you reached downtown Encinitas in the 1920's. Something that would keep traffic moving IS more consistent with a Highway.

The streetscape has been on hold since the downtown went to planning. Both streetscape plans were originally going to be implimented at the same time.
The streetscape design began 14 years ago.
The posters after you seem to understand.(good comments&fred is correct)

  16. 11:22 and 12:29-

11:22 - The project is for all of Encinitas and all residents will benefit from the project.

12:29 The project The project is for all of Encinitas and all residents will benefit from the project. the project has a great rate of return on investment just like the results from the downtown streetscape.

Leucadia has been waiting for 20 years. Its our turn for some love.

  17. True story:

Last night, I asked someone how they liked roundabouts. They said "I don't like them". So I asked him what is better - stop signs, signals, or roundabouts?

After thinking about it, he said, "well, I don't like stop signs, or signals, so maybe roundabouts are the best choice".

I think a lot of people fit into this camp - they instictively don't like something new, but after they think about it, they come around.

  18. Fred - 101 is a "historic highway" not a historic trail or meandering path. Which means speeding cars. If we think back to the heyday of 101, in the 1930's, cars' top speed was maybe 50 mph. A few speedsters obviously flew by them, but if we want to keep a historic highway, as opposed to developing a commercial corridor, then preserve, protect and plant. It isn't the shops that will draw patrons, but the unique road. Like going north on 101 up through Carmel and Monterey, the point being the road is classic and beautiful, and that is why travelers want to stop and enjoy the local scene. Who wants to stop in Bird Rock now....Might as well be in Fairbanks Ranch...or out in Palm Springs. Generica.

  19. Bondii-

I like it before the 1950s when people were traveling at 25mph. return historic glory, install the streetscape with roundabouts
