Natural Assets
Check out this new craftsman on Eolus Ave. The owners recently bought a beat up forclosure and replaced it with a home that takes advantage of our comfortable light ocean breezes.

I walk past that place almost every morning. The amount of dirt that got moved could have built another Catalina. It was very cool to watch. It is too bad that they had to tear down the little place that was there since it was built in '32. Unfortunately it had been monsterized and "updated" a few times so only the shell and the floor were still original.

ReplyDeleteThe ocean moisture will likely ruin their curtains over time. If they leave those doors open a critter will invade. And, why no urinal on the porch? C'mon!

I read Cadillac desert years ago. Remind me what you want us to learn from reading it. Then explain how it makes a difference if this family has a lawn or not.
What about if they were growing vegetables instead? Crops take water don't they?
Unfortunately that porch stares out onto a fairly busy Eolus. Cars and walkers stare into their living room / kitchen.

There are at least five of this style in and around the hood that have poped up recently. Knocking down the last of the old ranch houses and open space lots that made up most of the old greenhouses for so called eco friendly construction. How many old growth trees in the hood are you going to destroy on the hill? This is called gentrication and is being used as a ploy by the faux eco rich who are moving in and changing the way Leucadia has been for ever. Using safety as a way to turn our funky, slow quiet hood into Laguna Beach.

ReplyDeleteMy issue with the grass isn't limited to the water it will take to keep it green and lush. Grass is just so...yawn... downright borrrrrring. A cool house like this begs for a more imaginative landscape.

maybe there's an old tree here and there but eucalyptus certainly doesn't count.

According the the San Diego Water Authority there is plenty of water. Enough for another one million residents.
ReplyDeleteYeah well it ain't Oregon that's for sure. There use to be some cool old trees up on the hill and many little backyard forests with all kinds of flora and fauna. Everything is begining to look the same. Everyone is upset at what is happening with the canapy on 101 but no one seems to care about the hill, you just want an ocean view.
ReplyDeleteIt is comical that people have time to make blind speculations and try to judge someone else they know nothing about. The owner is in construction and did much of the work themselves (not a developer making money). They plan on living there for a very long time. There were only two trees on the lot which were dieing already and they replaced with 10 new trees, 30 new bamboo, and more.
ReplyDeleteThe old house was known as "The Rat house" and was infested with vermin. Barely anything was saveable, and as a direct neighbor I heard they saved anything that was salvageable. The lot was cited by the city as a nuisance and the weeds were a fire hazard. The 2 trees were rotted and dead. No "trees on the hill" were sacrificed here. They dressed up a very ugly lot nicely!

ReplyDeletethis is an old issue. Del Mar and Laguna Beach have dealt with this same issue for the last 30 years.
Either fess up and realize Leucadia will become funky swankier than Laguna or bury your head in your 30 year old pillow and bitch the rest of your life away. Better yet sell out to more positive and creative owners.
Hopefully you will realize that residents are here to become good stewards of Leucadia and our mother earth. Don't waste your life on negativity and serum to the dark forces. Universal good energy is hard to fight. Release and enjoy.
Your grouchy none productive ways are not welcome and I hope you can find peace some how.

Hopefully it not the funk of the area. I am raising my kids here. We love it. Its beautiful and all the residents seem to respect mother earth.
I also love all my neighbors. What the heck do you have to be grouchy about?

ReplyDeleteChange is good. Change is neccesary. I'm all for change, as long as it's for all and not just the few. There seems to be a double stardard by some that it's ok to cut down trees on private property but it's not ok when it comes to 101. And by the way, funky swankier is an oxymoron.
