Be there and tell everyone what goals you think the city should strive for in 2011.
Has the city met it's past goals?
Are you happy or sad?
My goal is to skate city hall like Mycah Williams here. Vote for him on Thrasher Magazine's "Stoke of the Year".
Kuddos to this kid! He is surely doing his civic duties for Encinitas! Good publicity for the town, I voted for him in the poll. Great photo by Max Dolberg too.
ReplyDeleteOnly in America do we glorify some uneducated moronic loser that trespasses on private property to break the law.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the Westboro Baptist nutcases, either.
ReplyDeleteHow about a goal to reduce pension and healthcare liabilities for government slough retirees by 50%
ReplyDeleteWho pays for the lawsuit if the kid hurts himself? Probably us, the taxpayers.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping one of the goals is to plant trees back on Hwy 101. Another one I would like to see would be a sidewalk or even an asphalt path on N.Vulcan which could be funded as a safewalk to school. Just dreaming
ReplyDeleteThis kid is not a moronic loser but one of our local youth with a 3.5 GPA at SDA and volunteers to tutor 2nd graders with their math homework every week. And if all he ever does to break the law is this stunt, well I believe the City of Encinitas is safe from this lawbreaker. It's actually an epic display of our local skateboard scene here in Encinitas, sorry you missed that.
ReplyDeleteGet rid of the punks that obstruct traffic by the 7-11.
ReplyDeleteCure polio and dry rot.
ReplyDeleteGREAT photo, Max! A few years back I was at the bar in Keno's watching the Olympics. A guy named Shawn White was doing his thing on the half pipe somewhere. It was breathtaking. Then he won a gold medal for his flawless performance. But about a year later I was at Keno's and the bartender said "Shawn White's in the house". So,,, in what some would call near stalking, I hung around outside till he came out and said "Hi Shawn!" Introduced myself and thanked him for representing the USA like he did. He said "Just hope I do it again!" And he did!
ReplyDeleteBut that's one insane drop from that Encinitas Civic Center sign. When I was a kid, a Pepsi truck rolled over on that embankment and glass bottles and syrup were everywhere.
that's a good story Fred
ReplyDeleteMy kid is a good student and has a 3.5 GPA. Volunteers for the community, tutors young kids and cleans up our beaches. We have medical insurance, so there no need to sue. Build that skate park on the Hall prperty and he wont have to do stuff like this.
ReplyDeleteI want a worthy skate park for my kids! I am happy! Encinitas is the mecca for skateboarding, yet this fine City has no public skate park. We deserve a skate park. Every other City in North County has one but us. Something is wrong here.
ReplyDeleteTo whom it may concern---Anon9:35 never mentions the kid in the photo. You all jump to conclusions...
ReplyDeleteAre you happy or sad?
ReplyDeletePissed at the loser politicians giving all our money and our kids future away in the form of unsustainable government slacker pensions.
4:36 are you worried about wall street and bank bonuses or just government workers ? How about tax cuts for the wealthy? You don't want health care reform either and would rather kick the uninsured to the curb while insurance CEO's get fat bonuses for denying the sick coverage. I think we need pension reform as well i just don't feel all government employees are slackers. Quit your griping and enjoy the weather.
ReplyDeleteThank you 6:12! You make excellent points. I am sick of this person going off topic on threads with the same old rant. We ALL get it on pension reform! Mycah is fearless! Follow his lead. We should all take the plunge in our civic duty! Don't hate! Participate!
ReplyDeleteI think it's great to see our youth have the courage and the stamina to be good in many things...this includes skateboarding! My son skated for several years and I loved to see him participate in something that gave him joy as well as maintain his athleticism. Yeah...he played soccer for many yrs and then wanted a sport that would challenge him. Proud Papa...good for you...I'm glad that you are proud of him; I am proud to have him in our community as well. All the haters out there who think skating is for losers...well...you are clearly OLD in your thinking and completely out of touch! Hope your bitterness doesn't do you in!
ReplyDeleteIts been over 5 years since our last 35% increase in pension payouts. It was also 2005 when we got our last 14% raise. We need bigger pensions and more pay NOW!!!
ReplyDeleteThis year I want Jerome Stocks to approve another 35% increase in my pension and I demand they reduce the retirement age down to 40 years of age.
I'll have to tell my union representatives to support his next campaign and it will get done.
Everybody should get 100% of their highest paid year at 40 years old.
ReplyDeleteLets call it Obama National Retirement Program.
Afterall- no one really has to work for money now a days. Them days are long done. Now the government just prints more money and our problems just go away. Its that simple.
All in favor say I!
I prefer going back to the discussion about how cool this kid is! That corner is as hairy as sasquatch! Kids these days, wow they are a whole new breed. I love evolution!
ReplyDelete6:48 Thank you for the kind words. When I saw this photo of Mycah I was caught off guard and was concerned that this was not such a great idea. We do not condone trespassing or vandalism of public/private property in our family. We have talked and Mycah understands that. I don't think he did any damage to city property, he did have a pretty good road rash when he got home though. Tough kid. The future looks bright for him and his friends who live in Encinitas.
ReplyDeleteGo to patch and see the sequence of Mycah. It's knarly!
ReplyDeleteVery cool! Good job Mycah, get yourself a helmet though!
ReplyDeleteCool would be council giving all residents $100k in gold, since they are giving all employees $100 million in golden pensions.
ReplyDeleteI know- Most people could care less about the future of Encinitas. But a sick skate board stunt is really something to get your blood boiling. No wonder our nation is collapsing.
wish again Papa. His future if only bright if you get get him into a fire department for the cake walk career.
ReplyDeleteHe's going to college and away from all you haters. Where he goes from there is up to him. He will succeed because we raised him right. He has good values, ethics is grounded in reality and has a good mind. He will be fine as long as he doesn't have to be around haters like you who root for failure.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing. What's your problem with firemen? I would be proud to see him become a fireman for Encinitas.
ReplyDeleteThat it pop. Put your head back in the sand where its warm and the oxygen is low.
ReplyDeleteSure he'll be fine- that's the famous baby boomer slogan. A little national debt won't hurt his future will it. Sleep tight pops. No need to worry about future generations!
PROUD PAPA- If you raised him so well, why is he trespassing on City property? He doesn't even have a helmet. Now that his name has been exposed I hope the sheriff pays you a visit.
ReplyDeleteDon't let that one anonymous unemployed trustfunder idiot ruin your stoke. Skateboarding is part of real Encinitas culture.
ReplyDeleteI am not a boomer and I am wide awake and see what is going on in this country. I just refuse to be a fatalist and perfer to see what is best in people. Nothing is set in stone. Finding solutions is better than pointing the finger at someone else.
ReplyDeleteWhats your solution? Print more money? Don't worry about it? The kids will find their own way? For our kids less is more?
ReplyDeleteOh yeah. Its easy to solve. Why its not really even a problem. We are leaving a great future for our children. Lets party on.
Lets see some more tricks please!
I think that's public property hater.
ReplyDeleteSo what if its public property? What's your point?
ReplyDeleteWhere does it say no trespassing on public property in the photo hater?
ReplyDeleteProud papa- With a 3.5 GPA you son isn't getting into any private university nor most Calif state systems. That doesn't mean he is a failure at academics, just needs to spend more time studying and less time skating.
ReplyDeleteThat's the truth, do with it what you want.
To all you haters... Thanks for caring. Go and raise your own kids please.
ReplyDeletea goal last year was to build the park. This year AND still the goal is to build the park! The photo of the kid and the thread title are appropiate. He had a goal and accomplished it even if it took a feww tries to make it. he did not give up rather he gave more of himself to get it done. We should learn from this old lessen. TRY TRY TRY until you suceed. Donna, what do you hope to accomplish tomorrow? Enough already! Let's build the park now! We can debate about lights later. There is no money for them anyway. We should at least have a skatepark and a dog park this year along with the fields. I choose happy and parks make me happy!
ReplyDeleteI choose not giving away millions of dollar to worthless employees in ridiculous pensions life long healthcare.
ReplyDeleteI choose smaller neighborhood parks without 90 foot lights.
I choose letting kids skateboard throughout town on public property- it is "public" property.
I choose allowing pappa to raise his kid in his fashion even if the kids ends up a vegatible from brain trauma.
I choose managing the City in a manner that has money for other projects besides the Employee Pensions, Healthcare, and the fricken Hall Sports Complex.
Most Encinitas Residents don't really care about building a mega Sports Park. They do care about their taxes.
There is many more commmunity needs besides these three things. If council doesn't see them and prioritize them, then we need a new council.
Well- that's a no brainer. vote for anyone beside the special interest RINO Jerome Stocks.
I applaud Proud Papa.
ReplyDeleteI grew up skating the late 80s and 90s. I run a successful business, own my home, have a lot in my retirement fund, and surf almost everyday. My wife loves me, and so does my child. I love my life, and I can tell you that skateboarding taught me more life lessons than any other activity I was involved in.
Proud Papa - good for you. Your son is creative, and pushing the boundaries. By encouraging his passion, you help him thrive. My father built my first ramp in 1986, and always was there to help me.
First of all I can't believe that there are people in our community who throw stones at Firemen and children, you suck!
ReplyDeleteNow about Mycah and those folks who have harsh words...I was there at a City of Encinitas Forum last year, it was a roundtable discussion about the future of the projected skateboard park..you know who else was there, yeah Mycah and his pal Zane. They participated in civic discussion face to face with developers and the Mayor. They stood up and gave their input to SUPPORT community growth. I admired these kids for being the ONLY kids there and keeping up with the big boys.
Now the photo, epic photo by local Max Dolberg should be hung in City Hall to remind the council. Hey build it! We need a skatepark in Encinitas. Reminder... Encinitas is the birthplace of Skateboard Culture. The photo could actually be considered a statement by Mycah to convey this need for a skatepark, it is symbolic art.
Don't critisize his academics, I know of him and know his reputation as bring a good kid and obviously if he is tutoring 2nd graders instead of getting into trouble, he is on a good path. Not too mention his bravery in taking a big drop, in my day rolling on concrete I would have never stepped up like this. Proud papa has done a fine job in raising a scholastic, brave, and contributing member of our community. Disregard the haters, obviously jealous of the achievement here. Build it council and this won't be happening on City turf!
8:26
ReplyDeleteYOUR SPOT ON EVERYTHING!
Proud Pappa - good for you!!!
Local encinitas man- the kid should have been at home doing his homework and not at ciy hall trying to influence adults into spending money on his hobby. If his papa wants to build the kid a skate park so be it.
ReplyDeleteProud papa- it takes a village to raise a child and that's what this village, the Leucadia blog, is doing...
Agenda item tonight:
ReplyDeleteDiscussion on procedure of selecting
Mayor.
One option is to use the rotation method that has been in practice without problems until Barth was passed over twice by the majority.
Another option is electing the mayor which probably would have put Gaspar as our mayor in the last election.
What do you think and would you go and offer your opinion tonight?
There is a skateboard park in the first phase of the Hall Property. Fight for it. To say kudos to a kid who skates down a steep incline without a helmet is just plain foolish in my opinion. If my kid had done that, he would be in trouble, It's one thing to have a safe skateboard park, one I totally agree is necessary. It is quite another to make a hero out of someone who could have ended up a parapalegic. Are you crazy proud papa, Is this really the way you want your kid to die?
ReplyDelete10:37
ReplyDeleteElected Mayor or not?
Why do you haters keep forgeting that Jim Bond was passed over by Shelia Cameron (The Queen of Mean)?
Don't be a hypocrite - if you want the people to choose the Mayor, then make it an elected position or do you just want a "small" group of activist haters to make that decision? You can't actually belief that most people in Encinitas are represented by these haters do you?
Who said anything about being a hero? He is almost 18. He has been skating for years and knows how to fall by now. His mother implores him to put on a helmet. I skated vert from the late 70's-95 and never had a helmet. What you do not understand is.... A good skateboarder knows how to fall without injury. I have more fear about him driving with all the nuts out there than him falling. P.S. Village idiot... Mycah does his homework and chores around the house before he goes skateboarding. Always has. Always will. Again, thanks for the concern but raise your own as you see fit.
ReplyDeletePP,
ReplyDeleteRemember that some trolls are just baiting you. Your son is a good kid.
Hey old folks, that corner is a landmark and has been skated by all the best. You don't last long skating if you don't know how to fall.
2:07,
Good point except the public would not be upset if Gaspar had not promised to be a "uniter". Does that make Gaspar the princess of meaness and manipulation?
Here is the history of the rotations.
ReplyDeletehttp://encinitasundercover.blogspot.com/2010/12/history-of-encinitas-mayoral-rotation.html
Shelia has a blunt, rough, and stern personality. Don't confuse that with being mean. Shelia gives more of herself than most and has shown that it was never for personal gain.
Dalager and Gaspar have a reputation of being friendly when conversing with others. Gaspar has shown she will take out knives. Dalager was always interested in personal gratification and gains.
Stop the nonsense. No more delays on the park. Build that dog park and skate park THIS YEAR!!! Stop wasting tax dollars on lawyers.!
ReplyDeleteThis City is a joke. Way to go people! Donna you just cost us a very unique qnd world class skate park. You Suck!
ReplyDeleteNo... Dan, Jerome, and crew cost us the skate park because all the park money is going to feed the employees pensions.
ReplyDeleteGo to a council meeting or watch online it' shouldn't take long to Jim Bond is losing it and shouldn't be mayor. As for Stocks we don't need an arrogant self center jerk on the council either. Stocks doesn't represent the folks of Encinitas on SANDAG or NCTD he just out for his personal gain another power hungry knucklehead supported by developers and big money just watch for the slate mailers deceit deceit deceit will put him back in his power seat.
ReplyDeleteFACT CHECK: Maggie has consistently won the most votes and received the highest percentage of votes as an incumbent. Therefore, Maggie would have been Mayor since 2004. And that's during the Presidential election too, when people are actually paying a little more attention.
ReplyDeleteSecond Fact Check:
ReplyDeleteMaggie is part of the crew that cost us the skate park because all the park money is going to feed the employees pensions.
Maggie and Jerome Stocks need to go.
they will be lucky if they are not thrown in jail.
Folks, there is a skate park in the first piece of the Hall Park. Check for yourself. What part of this don't you understand?
ReplyDeleteShould children breathe diesel and car fumes when they play on the Hall sports park? Council members Houlihan, Gaspar, Stocks, and Bond think so.
ReplyDeleteBased on last night's meetings (4-1), it's obvious that Teresa Barth is the ONLY councilperson that wants to stop the park.
ReplyDeleteWe need to recall Teresa Barth!
There was no mention of stopping the park. It was about the diesel and car fumes that will be inhaled by the children playing on the sports fields. Most of the fields are in the adverse health effects zone. There should be a recall of Stocks, Bond, Houlihan, and Gaspar for wanting the children to breath the fumes.
ReplyDeleteWhen they bought Hall property, the city did not think an EIR was needed on greenhouse land. The citizens had to sue to have this appropriate procees done. Now with the removal of 5000 trucks of contaminated soil and the freeway being 60 feet closer and possibly doubled in size, our city does not feel compelled to research the effects
ReplyDeleteof these changes. How is this responsible?
NOBODY WANTS TO STOP THE PARK
ReplyDeleteThat's a great photo, and cool stunt. But it does highlight the ugly concrete slab embankment on that former grocery store lot. I'd be cool with spending some tax money on improving that eyesore at our city hall.
ReplyDeletethe concrete is befitting of Council and staff vision.
ReplyDeleteNot to slight skate boarders by removing the concrete Matterhorn at City Hall, but I always thought the entire frontage on that block in front of City Hall was a waste of space, especially that third winding driveway that robs both commerce and parking. It's an entire block of prime California business zoned property, and with the right look could not only be awesome store frontage, but a perpetual means of income for the city who might lease it out. At least they tore down the old tin storage building on the corner and created some more parking.
ReplyDeleteWhen "Vulcan Square" was built, they didn't know how meaningful an ocean view would become. As a result, from Chef Pat's one could enjoy viewing the cars outside blocking the dank Pacific. Same view today with all the offices.
Oh wait a minute, that would take a lot of money that no one has! Nevermind.
Good thinking Fred. Maybe some day you'll be a councilmember.
ReplyDeleteIm proud to say that i know Mycha. He is a respectful, responable, and motivated young man. He is doing what makes him happy...and doing a damed good job of it! Professional skaters make millions while doing what they love. Uneducated haters you dont know anything about him, his parents, or the obvious potential of a great career in the skate industry. Only confident people take risks. Shame on you if you dont support this bright outgoing young man.
ReplyDeleteOhya...gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ReplyDeleteMycah! oops i spelled ur name wrong last input
The first phase of the park approved in 08 will just have a basic skate park. This bullshit appeal has ruined all the input from the skating community that came up with a unique street style skate park that no other city has in the USA. We have ignored this skateboarding community for too long. Someone needs to step up and let the latest version of the skate park to be built. Those who claim to care about our youth... SHAME ON YOU!
ReplyDelete8:57 p.m.
ReplyDeleteStocks decided to punish. Bond, Houlihan, and Gaspar went along. They had the power.
I'd be cool spending someones else's tax dollars or having the gov borrow money to change something not needing it.
ReplyDeleteNice to know that Mycha is a nice guy. However he has no business pulling that stunt for several reasons.
ReplyDelete1. He is a role model to others. He may be able to skate down that steep incline without a helmet, but when others try to do it, what will happen to them?
2. There is a reason the CIty has a NO Skateboarding sign on the parking lot area.
3. He violated the law. Last time I checked that is not what a good citizen does. Where is the sheriff on this one?
4. If we all decided to do things out own way, we would not have a democracy but something entirely different. It is too bad we don't have a skateboard park people, but you know what, we also have a lot of people that don't have homes. Where does this kid get off thinking he can pull this stunt with no consequences? Personally I hope the sheriff fines him, as they have others for doing the same stunt in different locations. They went after dog owners 5 minutes after curfiew. Where are they now?
You're just btter hater. I am sorry that your life sucks. Go and hate somewhere else. You are no role model either, hater. Too bad the Sherrif cant fine you for being such an ass.
ReplyDelete7:59 YOUR A TOOL and have missed the plot here. It's a statement, he took a risk and made a point, the kids need a skatepark!
ReplyDeleteSkateboarders are retards!
ReplyDeleteYeah, well those retards are making serious coin these days. There are probally 10 who are millionares in this City alone. Get with the times or watch it pass you by, you bitter loser hater.
ReplyDeleteAmerican 18 year olds think skateboarding down a cement abutement is the apex of achievement. Meanwhile a Chinese 18 year old is finishing his studies in engineering and will further his knowledge with advanced courses. Watch for the skateboarders to appear at your local McDonalds (knarly dude!) - take fries with that??? No wonder the Chinese are taking over.
ReplyDeleteSerious coin?? - one out of a million. Skateboarding is for boneheads.
ReplyDeleteWe had a chance to have a world classs skate park. The kids had spoken at workshop forums and came up with something to be proud of and now it looks like it will be scrapped for spite. The kids need a public park now. There are so many kids that do not get the oppurtunity to skateboard when they want to. The Y is great, I helped to make it what it is. I was there at the start and helped build the first park. The hours are limited and you have to pay to skate. If we have indeed lost this unique skate plaza, I would like to explore what the City of Lake Forrest has done with a public/private co-op with Etnies. It works well. We have so many professionals who live in our City, it must be possible to build something worthy of Encinitas. This City is the Mecca of this culture. Let's pour some concrete before Mycah is off to college.
ReplyDeleteWa Wa Wa-say the rest of us. Good grief folks. Get over yourselves. There are far more pressing issues in this community than a skateboard park. The Hall property would have been built a long time ago if you took a few hours and looked at why it has not been built. You had to have more. 90 foot lights for example. And these lights are not for the kids, they are for the adults, so don't give me crap about the poor kids. Very few people are ever going to become Skateboard professionals, NFL football stars or basketball stars. Why all the hoopla so Mycha can skate. He obviously skates, as he did it in the photo. God help the next kid that does it without a helmet and ends up in the E.R. and in a wheelchair. if I were Proud Papa I wouldn't be so proud of my son breaking the law, and using him as a great role model for others. Maybe he is a good skater. Chris Reeves was a great horseman, but when he fell he ended up parailized from the head down. I am sick of Micha and I don't even know him. Actually, I am not sick of him, I am sick of his Proud Papa. And if you are so proud, why don't you use your name. Afraid the cops might get you?
ReplyDeleteLook for the record. Mycah had no control of this photo being posted on this blog. He did not even know that someone posted it. His mother did. She only wanted to help him win a silly little contest. He is horified by all the hate and negative personal comments by some on this post. Why all the personal scorn on my son? This is deplorable. I will always be proud of my son and support him 100% in what ever he does in life. He just wants to skate with his friends. Mycah, his friends and their parents know me and Mycah and that is good enough for us.
ReplyDeleteTo All on the is post from Dr. Lorri
ReplyDeleteAs I have read each post I have felt informed, educated, but also saddened that the posters have inadvertently bullied Mycha. As his dad said, he wants to skate. How wrong is that? It is too bad that there is not the room anymore, as there was when I was a kid, to just skate, play basketball etc. Times are different. I would bet all of us in our youth did something just as daring as Mycha. I write this as a psychologist, and as a citizen of Encinitas with 2 grown kids of my own. Sorry if it sounds like I'm preaching. I'm not even ordained. However, all humans need a little compassion, so let's give it to Mycha. Now I will go back into exile for a while.
