DOGS!

nctimes.com: ENCINITAS: Off-leash dog hours debated before commissioners

"We feel we have lost our park to the dogs," said Cathy Andrews, who also lives in Quail Gardens. "It is perceived as a dog park, and once the dogs started coming there, we were outnumbered."

Tim Baird spoke in favor of extending off leash hours to Hawk View Park.
"I believe the city should use the criteria it has already used (when it originally decided to allow off-leash hours at some parks). Is there something unique to this park? No. Quail Gardens is on a big street and has parking. The design of the park separates the dogs from the playground and the lawn is under-utilized for sports ... These are the criteria that should be used to determine whether a neighborhood park should be used, not on who brings the largest pitch forks and yells the loudest."

*blogger's note-Did Tim just move here or something? Don't mock our large pitch forks, it's an Encinitas tradition.

The City Council is scheduled to consider Wednesday whether to expand off-leash hours from 6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 8 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at Orpheus, Sun Vista and Viewpoint Parks.

  1. Tim Baird is the Encinitas School Superintendent. So I guess that makes him a newbie. The pitchfork thing was kind of funny.

  2. Make a park a dog only park. Then the problem would be solved. I know one has been in the works for the Hall property park but you know that's been delayed for years. Keep the dogs and kids apart. Or allow kids in dog parks at the parents risk but don't allow dogs in the kids parks.

  3. When I had dogs, I never bothered to go to a dog park. I just took my dogs where ever I felt like going. I cleaned up after my dogs and was responsible.

AS usual this is Encinitas making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Can we go back to more important things like stopping surfing at Swamis??

  5. I love how the council threw the dog owners a bone by expanding the hours by...an hour. More amusing are the comments by Steve Meiche, and his faux concern about the dog's "turds" and his children's welfare. Well, back in 1988, you could catch ol' Steve with his two Rotweillers, running with them, off leash, at Beacon's Beach, and while he surfed, the two dogs would run wild and leave turds, and pissed wherever they pleased. While Steve was having fun, a dedicated group of us were trying to keep dogs from being banned from Beacon's and we lost, mainly because of people like Meiche. We organized 4 I Love A Clean SD events, which he never took part in, and he walked by us, nose in the air.

    What an effin hypocrite.

  6. I don't have a problem with dogs at parks as long as they wear diapers and muzzles. I find it hilariously Encinitan that at Viewpoint park dogs can shit all over with impunity but let a little kid take a dump and the human contingent spins out of control.

  10. Jesus how times have changed and not for the better. My thought is more population in north county did not do us any good. that is unless you were the developer or the politician being paid off. Then it was really good.
