Water truck in the scorched earth dust bowl

Spotted today along the train tracks along Leucadia's Hwy 101.
This water truck.
A day late if somebody wanted the 1,000's of visitors to Leucadia's Art Walk to not get dusted by the speeding by trains.
Rumor is NCTD is prepping the tracks for a fence to keep out illegal crossers.
Everyone knows fences in southern California are very, very effective at keeping undesirables out.

  1. I would guess that's a rumor about prepping for a fence (although I appreciate the attractive fences they put up here). I saw the same kind of truck squirting not long ago. The last thing they want is something growing where they need to drive their maintenance trucks. I would also guess that's only partly water and wouldn't recommend putting it on your garden.

  2. I guess someone should call NCTD and ask them, whats with the water truck?

  3. I asked:
    Dear Mr. Salatka,

Thank you for writing North County Transit District (NCTD) regarding the water truck that was recently seen along the railway in Leucadia. The truck was dispensing water to mitigate the dust that tends to be dispersed by passing trains. This is a temporary solution, though you may see the trucks a few more times. NCTD will soon be meeting with the City of Encinitas to discuss a potential long term solution to prevent the dust from blowing.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to let me know.

    Sincerely,

  6. I'm thinking of a new souvenir. Bottled goat head thorns from Leucadia.

    1. The countless flat tires my bicycle has received from them, will happily be a part of my past and not the future.
