I took these photos on Wednesday of this week. I wonder if this rotting Yes on C sign is permanent?
Does anyone know what the final cost of Prop C was? The consultants, the signs, the mailers, the ballots, the people to count the ballots, the effort to refund your money taken illegally from you. All that must have really added up.
The real question is what did aceti's group, Yes on C spend and where did they get the money. He admitted to funding the campaign with his credit card for a while but why? Who would re-pay him? or what was he to get in return once the vote was counted.
ReplyDeleteStephen Keller or Adam Kay should look into this.
The picture perfectly exeplifies the position that Bossypants Guerin and Space Cadet Maggie took in selling their neighbors down the creek.
ReplyDeleteDamn it people,
ReplyDeleteGive Aceti some credit. Right here on this blog he came clean and told the public that the revenue generation wasn't about clean water and it was really about other projects. That deseption was what really motivated most of the opposition and was why there really wasn't a grassroot campaign for "clean water" .
Weeks later we now understand. The Council promised more than it can deliver within its budget.
If that isn't true why did staff waste their time considering alternative B, for bonding/borrowing.
That is why we skipped Prop B and went straight to C. They wanted to hold that letter in reserve.
The council and Miller cant be that dumb. They now know that the voters are not asleep and that there are a few groups out there who will fight the bond / TAX idea with simple information.
ReplyDeleteThose yes on c signs were cheesey from day one. Bad graphics, bad size and curled up like a sow bug after a light rain.
ReplyDeleteI am still cofused about the state of the city's finances. It wasn't that long ago when the UT and NCTimes were praising him for saying that our City, unlike some others, was in great financial shape. This was before Prop. C. What happened? Now he is saying we are poor. Where did the money go and who got it? I know it wasn't me. I'm still waiting for my refund.
ReplyDeleteIt gets even better. Now Kerry Miller wants an aide for public affairs and public relations. It was in todays North County Times. He certainly needs one, but perhaps it would be better to just get rid of him and hire someone competent. I am also waiting for my refund. I have a feeling it's going to be a long wait.
ReplyDeleteOne year ago, the North Co. Times said "First, consider that 70% of the staggering $1.4 billion pension deficit was created by (the San Diego) city council that granted lavish retirement benefits to city workers - for the sobering second point: nearly all of North County's city councils recently gave their workers goodies that surpass San Diego's !"
ReplyDeleteHere we are a year after that article was written and guess what, after the Enc. city council spent all of last year passing out big raises and pension and benefit increases, now they have no money for capital projects and are considering either selling land or taking out $17,000,000 in bonds - taxpayers and the next generation will be saddled with an additional $35,000,000 in debt.
The Enc. city council will meet to discuss this on Wed., May 10th, at 6 p.m. at city hall. We encourage you to attend and make your feelings known.
Toilet paper in a third world country beats the qualities of this sign. Nuff said.
ReplyDeleteI am Spartacus!
ReplyDeleteAll Hail Sparticus!!!
ReplyDeleteErrr, Spartacus!!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't get the tendency to say that it's ok for a city to create longterm debt because we have to do so to buy our homes.
ReplyDeleteYou are not talking about buying property, here, in most cases, but in buying stuff like fire trucks, new roofs for City Hall, that will not last 30 years, anyway. You are talking about "modernizing," demolishing our perfectly good former library, when we have experienced no real need to do so except for political brownie points, status and agrandizement of politicians, and perhaps some of their friends, the developers, who want to lure higher density development into our city because of our fabulous "amenities."
We have a perfectly good teen and senior center over on Balour. Why do we need a huge complex at the Hall Property? Why can't we just start with multi-use fields, and a fenced off area for the dog people, once the Environmental Impact Report goes through, if it ever does.
I noticed that the last City Council Meeting was not shown on Cox 19 the following day, Thursday, as it usually is, at 6:00 P.M. I tuned in, right on time, no dice.
It was shown, this past Thursday, a week late, but important parts were missing, just "x'd" out, it seemed. Part of the next day's budget meeting was cut off, too.
I was happy to see Bob Bonde present his oral communications. Kevin Cummings was there too; part of what he said was corrupted, cut off. This should be played again, I feel, correctly, if a good tape exists. It could go on after a day when there is no Council Meeting, like the first Wednesday of the Month.
I think we skipped from A to C because of the connection with Aceti. Just a hunch.
We don't need to be paying ever increasing service debt, Aceti, and loading up future generations with your twisted sense of value and worth. We can make cuts in staff payroll, benefits, and contractor payments. We do have a choice. We are not the national government. We do not want to bankrupt our children and grandchildren, giving them an inheritance of debt and false values.
James Bond did say at the meeting that we are all NIMBY's. None of us want the quality of life in our neighborhoods, our community to be degraded. Carrying more longterm debt would surely result in a lower quality of life, and an escalating breach in the public's trust of our officials in the City of Encinitas.
All hail James Bond, roadside bum, and long term debt for long term needs! Live long and blotto blog!
ReplyDeleteNo one is saying all hail any of those things crazy anonymous. What the heck are you talking about? I don't get it. Are you blotto? Or are you just being sarcastic?
ReplyDeleteI disagree with a lot of what James Bond says, but he admitted something that is true. We all care about our neighborhoods.
We don't want longterm debt to pass on to future generations so a few can get rich quick, profit from what should be our community's natural resources. We want to preserve the character that still remains. We want to pull together to do this, not apart.
Bond measures are good for the city in some circumstances. However, all the people need to vote to decide if a aprticular measure is good, not just our 5 city councilpersons that are obviously already beholden to outside interests as demonstrated by the positions they have taken recently on prop A and C and the Sheridian property.
ReplyDeleteVOTE on any proposed bond measure.
On the North County Times opinion page:
ReplyDelete"Commission sells out public on hotel"
The Coastal Commission approved (6-4) the KSL Resort plan to subdivide and sell the beach hotel rooms as condominiums.
Mayor Guerin lobbied for the KSL project on the beach.
With this ruling hotel rooms throughout the state can be turned into condominiums.
Mayor Guerin and the city council lob another one into the city environment.
I was saying boo-urns.
ReplyDeletePull together, pull apart... Future debt payments for future generations who bene bene bene bene@#%$#@&*fit from the future utility of present decisions!
ReplyDeleteYour paradigm is FLAWED!
You live in the LOST !
I cry for you.
WOW!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Sierra club RULES,MAN!
They laid it out in the opinion column today!
Those greedy bastards suck.
All hotels along the coast should be reserved for people on Medi-Cal! How are folks on welfare expected to stay at a 4 or 5 star resort? huh? I agree with the Sierra club , this is CRAP!
I think we should all go to the coastal commission AND city hall and DEMAND that all coastal properties be reserved for low income people!
Including the rental or sale of single family dwellings on Neptune.
Especially the sale of property on Neptune...
And maybe some of the houses near the golf course too...
Power to the people!
I love it when angry yuppies drink and post. :)
ReplyDeleteLeucadia doesn't even have a starbucks.
ReplyDeleteI kind of like the idea of a bunch of regular citizens going to the Coastal Commission and sharing our thoughts with them. Guerin doesn't have ALL the opower, does she? Anybody interested?
ReplyDeleteIs Mayor Guerin driving around town in that cute little Lexus SC430?
ReplyDeleteThe decrepted sign is still there but I haven't received my refund check yet.
ReplyDeleteI just bought Juanita's, and i'm turning it into Jualmart.
ReplyDeleteJP- why don't you do a piece on the whole miracles thing? I mean, I can't wait until there's another awesome office building in town.
Miracles was torn down by the woman who owned it right?
ReplyDeleteI miss the patio and some of the art featured but honestly, their coffee sucked.
hmm... i thought she sold it to a developer. the coffee certainly did suck, but the view was awesome, and the occasional get together there was fun. The point is that now there's no taco auctioneer, and there's no miracles, and there's no library, and man....if they think they're tearin down that jack-in-the-box, they've got another thing coming!
ReplyDeletenorth county times reported the city spent 128,000 on prop c.
