Stocks is recommending a 11% base salary increase and a 1% compensation increase. This would bring the City Manager's total salary package to $242,640. Barth's recommendation is for no increase in base salary or other compensation. Some of Cotton's salary is charged to the San Dieguito Water District.

ReplyDeleteWhat kind of kickback is stocks getting by approving all these civil servant raises and/or contract extensions. His position on salary increases in this climate of government cut backs and shutdowns, including cut backs in education, fire, law enforcement, and shutdowns of public parks and social services, is unconscionable and undefendable. Send emails to the Council ASAP. What kind of civil servant is Cotton anyway, doesn't he have any shame in taking that much salary, and then stiffing us for another 11 percent on top! While we are looking at up to 40 percent increases in water rates to fund this rip off! There are many, many qualified people to fill the City Manager position for far less money. I call BullShit, DogShit and StockShit.

ReplyDeleteWhere is all this money going to come from? I thought Stocks was a fiscal conservative. At least that is what he says he is. I can't believe that the Council will give it to him. Remember Dan is running for Council this year. Will he have the balls to actually vote for this? If so, whoever runs would sure have a great opportunity to call him on it. What a city. Just more shit, only a lot worse than dogs. Maybe this is what they are going to do with the extra money they get from the water district? If we protest this as much as people came out for the dogs the Council might back off. They backed off for off-leash hours at the two parks the Parks and Rec. Commission recomended for more off-leash hours. Please write, call or do whatever to get them not to do it. Cotton doesn't deserve t anyway. What has he done to improve this City?

its time for Mr. Jerome Stocks to pay for his misgivings.
Jerome may be a union lover but Phil is not in the Union. He is an "at will" employee. That means the Council can hire and fire him at any time. At the last Council meeting one of the Council members said we are laying off people, so why is he getting an 11% raise that cold have gone to keep these people? And, why in these times does Council think it needs a raise as well? They even be worth it, but it is insulting to those of us who have taken a pay cut at our own work. University professors have taken a 10% pay cut at SDSU and UCSD professors have taken a 5% pay cut.I hope that they rethink it.

Not all government workers are getting raises. My husband teaches at San Diego State and received a 10% reduction in salary plus he has to take furlough days. Furthermore, there are no more Graduate Assistants to help the professors or the students. At UCSD the faculty tool a 5% decrease in salary. Not sure why the City seems to feel it needs to give Cotton a 11% raise. Love to hear the rationale.
ReplyDeleteDr.Lorri- your husband has a part-time job. Yes teaching is a part-time job, he works 6 months a year!! Yet he receive a full time salary. Therefore he is really over paid for the time he spends working. Enjoy, only firefighters and lifeguards earn more for doing less!!

I agree. It means Mr. Cotton will retire soon and they are setting him up for a golden parachute at $250,000.00 a year for life... if he lives 20 more years that would be $5 million dollars paid to his retirement from the tax payers.
The only answer is to spread the word and vote out Danny in this next election. Then Stocks to follow in 2012.
Maybe then, our City will start heading in the right direction.

ReplyDeleteDr.Lorri- your husband is lucky to have a job, with benefits, even if it means a furlough on occasion. Real unemployment is closer to 18% than the 10 % the govt tells you about. We are in the first 2 years of what will probably be a 10 year depression. Before the Obama administration is over, look for rioting in the streets of America over food, taxes, jobs and govt workers(yes college professors)receiving pay raises. IT will be ugly, but the tax payers of this country have had enough. Be ready. Have a 30 day supply of food and essentials at your home or office. Be prepared.

ReplyDelete12:28- You are so right. I am fortunate to have a husband that is still employed because I am self-employed and could never afford health insurance alone. And it makes me very sad to know that there is an 18% unemployment rate in this country. How we ever got into this mess is a mystery to me. I feel for people that are losing their homes, and have just barely enough to eat. That is one reason, as much as I think Phil is a nice person, that I don't think he needs to take even more from the public coffers. I am not a socialist, but times are tough and perhaps if we each gave a little back and said NO to 11% raises, it might help the ones who are being laid off in our own City. He doesn't have to accept it, and Council does not have to give themselves raises at this time. Just a thought. I have lowered my hourly rates to help those in distress. Although lately I have turned to my own shrink to help me out with this dog mess:)

So, if you want to do something proactive, instead of complaining, go to City Hall, and tell them to just say NO to the pay increase. They may still vote Yes, but it seems to me it would be very hard to justify with a huge room of citizens. Hey it worked for Steve Meiche and company for the off leash issue. The Council rejected the Commissions report. Let's see a little civic action instead of words. I'll be there.

how did we get here...by letting the foxes write the entrance exam to the hen house, Bush and his Congress let the financial sector write the financial laws, placed people who don't believe in regulation in charge of the EPA, Dept. of the Interior, etc...and committed us to a war for profit. Cotton should be ashamed of himself if he accepts this increase...he should pledge it to Haiti, at least we could all feel good about that.

Maybe they could paint cold tar colored glue on and then apply the feathers. that wouldn't hurt and seems like it would get the point across. Any other thoughts?

We can't make an informed opionion without facts.
You have to admit that administratig this City has to be challenging!
The mayor of San Diego makes $100,000 a year. Read the Sign on San Diego article. Dalgher says we need to pay high to attract good people. Phil Cotton was already working for the City when he got promoted. There never did an outside search. Another stupid comment by Dan. Don't let them get away with it!
