These stakes came with notices from the city. The City of Encinitas is apparently going to be planting trees along this residential street.
The residents use to take responsibility for landscaping in front of their houses on this street.
When will Leucadia see stakes in the ground marking imminent tree plantings? What are the next steps toward planting trees on the 101? Alternative 4a has been selected and not having a plan selected was cited as reason for not replanting the canopy. We've got a plan. So, does anyone know the timeline for discussions on what sorts of trees will be planted along the 101?

I've been thinking that planting native oaks along the rail corridor might be a good idea. I'm not going all native here. We should be planting some non-natives. Its just that the local oaks don't get that tall, they have great looking canopies, are strong hardwoods, and they can survive without supplemental water.

When will u stop this constant whining about trees! Things take time. There is a planning stage, approval stage and a do it when we have the time and money stage. Your working with the government.

ReplyDeleteWe now have a good plan and we can determine where we can plant. The trees being planted is phases is wise.
Trees planted now will have a few years to mature so when the streetscape starts, we can have something more than saplings.
Let's proceed.
They're just planting trees so they can change the name to Morning Wood Ranch.

Things take time. I am the first to recognize that. On the other hand the city is good at delaying unnecessarily and then saying, "things take time" to cover themselves when in fact no work was taking place.
The tree process has taken time. I was told that selection of the alternatives was what was standing in the way of tree planting. If there are more meetings in front of us, are they scheduled? If not scheduled, then why not?
There is no impatience on my part, only a desire to determine what's going on.
Mike, JP and I both work full time and we would love to have submissions to post especially about the folks in Leucadia. Leucadia is composed of such a variety of folks and it would be cool to document that. Send us some stuff about the people in your neighborhood at leucadiablog@gmail.com.

ReplyDeleteI heard the Hall property sports complex and the 101 streetscape are permanently "delayed" because the City is running a deficit and needs to fund the increase liability for pensions created in 2005.
When is the City having its Council Goal setting or at least a meeting to discuss it budget?
How is staff doing to know what Council wants funded and what will be delayed?
Is there any money will be left after the increased payments for the pensions?

ReplyDeleteLast Wednesday was the budget update and council goals update.
ReplyDeleteThe city has set aside money for the Hall Park development but $8million won't even come close to building all the stuff the boys have promised.
But the city can always borrow more money for the "Money Pit" aka Hall Park.
There is money set aside for the streetscape too but just a few million.
Strange priorities...
Streetscape = public safety, economic development and improved quality of life.
Sports Park = fields for the few who don't want to pay for their use.

What is it with this city and trees. Remember the roadside park and Orpheus park tree debacle? This city could screw up a wet dream!

You start a tree friendly city by having tree friendly staff. To become a tree friendly City, we need to cut the deadwood staff like John F. in parks and rec. and others who are responsible for the numerous infractions against our beloved trees.

ReplyDeleteYou must be the guy in charge of the abundance of beautiful palm trees gracing our 6 miles of golden coast. Oh, I'm sorry, there's just one. I'm surprise the palm at moonlight beach hasn't been hated out of existence yet by view whores who think trees detract from the ocean.
We need more trees so dogs have something else to pee on besides the sandboxes, children, and play equipment at Orpheus Park
