Government

I voted for change but would give anything to get back to the way we were. This administration is the biggest dissapointmet of my 60 years as a voter.
ReplyDeleteWe made a huge mistake by electing a president with zero experience managing a budget. I feel like an idiot having voted for him. I feel very sorry for my kids and grandkids. Please forgive me!
I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off
ReplyDeleteTyler. Great points. Now its time to put your energy to use.
ReplyDeleteTake an economics or history course. Without a carrot animal including humans will not press for their own greatness. If you feed them, house them, and care for them, basically welfare, they will sit back and live their life like a caged rat.
If you keep the freedom of the animal world including free enterprise, you get imperialism or communism. As Adams and Jefferson, with god intervention. Said the USA constitution is the best chance we have at a free society. Embrace it or reap the whirlwind. Its your choice.
Never vote for an incumbent. It’s the death of America. Politicians are supposed to be just one of the people. That’s it.
Voltaire was one of several Enlightenment figures (along with Montesquieu, John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau) whose works and ideas influenced important thinkers of both the American and French Revolutions.
ReplyDeleteNice- Watch the movie- John Adams. And you will know the meaning of Liberty!
Question for "You have the right to be Free"....
ReplyDeleteYou said "Never vote for an incumbent. It’s the death of America."
I guess that means you wouldn't have voted to re-elect Abraham Lincoln.

ReplyDelete"I voted for change but would give anything to get back to the way we were."
'The way we were' is why we are the way we are.
I, too, wish that the new admistration could solve all the problems, in one year, that the prior administration caused in eight years.
We, the people, have a chance, right here in Encinitas to make a difference. The General Plan is being updated and there are meetings all over town on what we want our community to look like in 2035. I attended the one in Cardiff last night. There were at least 100 people there, young and old. We divided into 7 groups and brainstormed our ideas on 6 different categories. Then one person from each group shared their groups ideas. Some of our local leaders were there such as Teresa Barth, Jerry Sodomka, Peder Norby, Tony Krantz, and many more. Even Phil Cotton was there! We have a chance to be heard. So, if you are interested in being part of the solution get involved. Check out the City's website for details. We can make a difference.
ReplyDeleteDr. Lorri, if someone with a master's degree can call themselves a doctor, you have to be kidding yourself. This city council will do what it damn well pleases, like Obama, regardless of what you think or say in these meetings. These meetings are a waste of time.
ReplyDeleteAll you have done on this blog is complain about these council people but now you think they are going to listen to you?
We need a new city council and a new city staff starting with the city manager on down.
Not all city employees only half.
ReplyDeleteTo7:54
ReplyDelete"These meetings are a waste of time"
You are totally wrong!
The meetings that are going on do and will make a difference. This is how things get done.
You and those like you will continue to bitch about everything and offer nothing to the common good.
Know that not getting involved and participating diminishes your right to complain.
This will, I am sure, will not stop you from denagrating those that do get involved with positive change neither will it cause you to offer your time and energy to solve anything. You will continue to just complain.
7:54- I really doubt this particular Council will be in office in 2035. However, if you don't want to participate that is also your right. BTW, if you are referring to me re: the masters degree, just to set the record straight, I do have a Ph.D, which only means piled higher and deeper. Psychologists in this State have to have a Ph.D. in case you ever need to know that.
ReplyDelete8:32
ReplyDeleteWe forgive you. Next time vote for Rue Paul. I mean Ron Paul.
I told you to vote for Ron Paul. You didn't listen.
ReplyDeleteWe would be in a whole lot better shape, if you did. You better start nixing these incumbents if you want our children to have any chance at a free America with any opportunity for a decent quality of life.
Look at what Greece and France are dealing with today. That is the USA in 3 to 5 years. Gauranteed.
I work at City Hall in Encinitas. I can tell you first hand that not all employees there are bad, but that management is stale & should be changed, from the top down. Lots of people there work really hard, but that isn't rewarded.
ReplyDeleteI was at the GP update in Cardiff last night, as Dr. Lorri said. I don't think it was a waste of time, although I do have great mistrust of the city.
ReplyDeleteCity staff conducted the discussion at each table. It must have been karma, but I was assigned to Table 1 conducted by Planning Director Patrick Murphy assisted by City Manager Phil Cotton. I think they were more surprised than I was.
What made it all worthwhile was that both Phil and Patrick had to listen to comments and write them down from people who cannot be dismissed as the "usual suspects," as Dan Dalager likes to say. I saw lots of new faces, and no one at my table was bashful.
It's not too late to participate. Lots of the natives seemed restless. Let the city know that there are many more of us out there.
I fear any decisions made at the city level are going to look rather trivial in light of the multi-trillion-dollar debtstorm at the federal level.
ReplyDeleteWas there a Pleasantville in Mad Max?
CONSTITUENT
ReplyDeleteHe or she who gives authority to another to act for. The constituent is bound with whatever his representative does by virtue of his authority. The electors of a member of the legislature are his constituents, to whom he is responsible for his legislative acts.
This is a great post. The post goes back to the fundamentals of government. The City Council is supposed to represent the interests of their constituents and act as representatives. Our City Council’s priorities have been convoluted by power, authority, special interest and their own personal interests. This is a small town, a bedroom community. It’s not a major metropolis. Our Council representatives forget they are just regular, common people, not career politicians.
In my opinion, the City Council is completely out of touch with the taxpayers and community. They don’t seek or encourage input from the community. The classic council comeback is "No one called or wrote us… There must be no problem, everything is OK". The Council doesn’t demand that Staff reports and analysis seek Stakeholders input. I really don’t think they care about the stakeholders.
EXAMPLE
How many council members do you think took the time to visit the SRF to talk to them about the potential impact of the surf contest? I’ll bet none of them. If you Bloggers had to make a very important decision on an issue that effects the SRF, wouldn’t you consider it important to meet and discuss with them their concerns? So, as it is now, if the SRF representitive doesn’t show up to the Council meeting and speak or write a letter, there are no issues with SRF and the surf contest.
The Council doesn’t hit the streets and see first hand what's really going on, they would rather rely on staff reports, emails and this Blog.
I think the City Council must believe that they live in an Ivory Tower.
The term Ivory Tower originates in the Biblical Song of Solomon (7,4), From the 19th century it has been used to designate a world or atmosphere where intellectuals engage in pursuits that are disconnected from the practical concerns of everyday life. As such, it usually carries pejorative connotations of a willful disconnect from the everyday world; esoteric, over-specialized, or even useless research; and academic elitism, if not outright condescension.
This questions is for Tony, as a City Council member…
ReplyDeleteHow are you going to build a bridge with your constituents to represent them and their interest
How will you reverse the current trend where the Councils members personal and special interest dictate decisions?
Will you be able to put your personal interest aside for your constituents interests?
What will be the conduit?
tony seems to be along the lines of Teresa Barth. Teresa is out in the community and listening to constituents. She doesn't just listen to the special interests and dismiss all residents as minion not to be bothered with.
ReplyDeleteTony understands Council represents the people and the leadership of the City goes Citizens lead the Council, Council leads the Staff, Staff executes the plan. Current situation is upside down- staff tells council the way it it, council tell the citizens what is going to do.
Steve: Why don't you run since you think you know so much? I am getting tired of your endless attempts to show us how smart you think you are. Every since the dog poop thing, you have been posting more and a acting like you are some kind of big deal. I wish J.P. would not post any more of your stupid rants. Half of the stuff you say is not true anyway.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous on March 11 at 8:32 PM:
ReplyDeleteYes, the country made a huge mistake electing Barry. Yes, his administration is the biggest disappointment of our liftimes. Yes, we should all feel very sorry for our kids and grandkids. Yet you, Anonymous, are forgiven -- just please do not make the same mistake twice.
Now, for the record, not only had the current POTUS never managed a budget, but I do not believe he ever managed ANYTHING. Certainly he had never had any accomplishments. Other than perhaps getting elected to government positions (in a horribly corrupt district from the second sorriest and most poorly run state in the union.) Illinois politicians over the last decade or so have been such a complete freak show that even a very creative author could never have crafted a novel so bizarre....but I digess. Oh, and maybe POTUS should be credited for receiving a couple of useless degrees from prestigious universities who likely admitted him (and graduated him) under official or unoffical affirmative action programs. So in the future let's start voting for people who have actually done something, and preferably done it successfully.
Anonymous on March 12 at 7:19 -- Are you Omamaniacs ever going to stop blaming everything on Bush? First of all, take a little responsibility. Second, everyone would agree W did not have the best presidency in the history of the country. But neither did his dad and neither did Slick Willie. The mortgage problems and financial meltdown have their roots in the Clinton years (though W did not fix the problems.) Osama Bin Laden would have been dead and 9/11 might not have happened if Clinton had not been too busy to authorize killing him when we had a chance. Let's not even get into what he might have been doing when he was too busy. And can anyone imagine the horror of having Al Gore in charge when 9/11 did occur?
Meathead -- I am not a fan of either Rue Paul or Ron Paul but you halways have interesting posts -- Thank you for contributing

ReplyDeleteI removed a double posting, sorry.
ReplyDeleteTyler. If your not a fan of Ron Paul by now, you are part of the problem. I hope the rest of America is smarter than you are we are screwed.
ReplyDeleteRethugs are still blaming Clinton for everything. And you long for the good old Bush days? You trolls are ruining all the blogs and yer a bunch of whiners.

ReplyDeleteIn defense of Steve: He is a concerned citizen and I support his efforts wholeheartedly.
Get over the dog poop thing and get on with the problem(s) at hand: getting Dalager OUT and getting term limits in place to rid ourselves of Stocks, Bond and yes, Houlihan.
Make an effort to unite for a COMMON GOOD and stop being divisive, disparaging citizens who are asking hard questions. Tony can handle them, so can Teresa.
THINK, McFly, THINK
As a new resident of Encinitas, can somebody give me crib notes on the factions on the council?
ReplyDeleteMy default is always to vote against all the incumbents, but is there a faction fighting the good fight? What are the issues?
Varones-
ReplyDeletebased on your photo...you obviously know what you think 'the good fight' is....not particularly amusing or cool (to me). Why did you pick Enc? Dayam...we don't need this shit.
Tyler
ReplyDeleteI'm diggin your vibe.
I voted for the current POTUS but am not proud to admit it.
What can we do now????
3:55-When Steve stops spreading false information I will stop asking me to shut the f up. He has lied or stretched the truth in EVERY one of his rants and I, for one, am tired of his misinformation. He acts like this is only his town and he has all the answers. That is not a community leader IMHO. It is an ego trying to spread its wings.
ReplyDeleteVarones...
ReplyDeletecheck out the Council Guide 2009 under Quick Links on the left side of the blog.
Anonymous 6:56,
ReplyDeleteI chose Encinitas because the people are laid back, good natured, and don't get their panties in a wad over a picture of a terrorist looking like a fat, hungover Homer Simpson with bedhead.
Council Watcher,
Thanks- great link. Will be interesting to follow the races.
To those of you asking what we can do... read this:
ReplyDeletehttp://lucianne.com/article/?pageid=obamacare_rules
and educate as many people as possible against the socialism threatening to take over our way of life.
The Linda contest thing is just another example of gov't ruining lives on a smaller scale. What's up with non-residents trying to make changes in our town? In the end those changes affect US not those who live out of town (like in Solana Beach).
Anon 3:55... I mean Bill,
ReplyDeleteCome on man prove me wrong. Step up. What's false? Bring something to the table other than your resentment and bitter diatribe.
While we can all laugh at the dog poop issue it's really not a joke. I nailed the City and caught them red handed. The poop at the park and how the city handeled the whole process represents everything wrong with the leadership and management of the City at all levels. The wide spread ramifications and outcome is still to be determined by a much higher authority and the corruption and misconduct will be exposed. And if the timing is right, Dalager, Cotton and Chris Hazeltine will pay the price right before the election.
They screwed up and I caught them by videoing poop, studying the muni code and city policy. I'm OK with that. Laugh all you want I'm not afriad of a little shit from you or a dog.
Poor Steve. You are so blinded by your own self-importance that you have begun to believe your own shit (excuse the pun). So many things that you have said are just wrong. Phil Cotton's expose had numerous false accusations. When I have a moment I will document them on the blog. Your dog poop thing was a joke. What exactly did you expose? Some dog poop that should not have been there. Big fucking deal. There really are more important matters in this City. Hopefully you showed up at at least one General Plan meeting. I only went to one and didn't see you there, but I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you made at least one of them and contributed something positive. I will get back to to you and the rest of the readers with the stuff about Phil. How well do you know him, BTW. I know him quite well and can tell you that if he were a "smaller man" he could sue you for your characterization of him. Have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteLast post. You sound like a bleeding heart ambulance chaser. What a douche to throw out, "he could sue you".
ReplyDeleteAs you, probably a dumb ass lawyer, should know, any person can sue another for whatever reason and whatever time. BFD!
I am not Steve, but you sound like that little insecure little fricken turp looser Gary Tucker or his fat elf Mike Andreen.
You better not say something with truth about someone, or they can sue. What a joke!
Never vote for an incumbent and adopt term limits in Encinitas. Two terms is enough after that they start to rot. All of our are rotten to the core with the exception of teresa.
ReplyDelete8:38- Where were your comments when Steve threatened to sue Dr. Lorri for conflict of interest, when there was none? Did you speak up then or are you one of the Orpheus few who got the trees cut down for a better view?
ReplyDelete8:57- What are you talking about. You sound about as stupid as a babbling Dalager. I never saw any post saying steve was going to Dr. Lorri. If I did I would have posted the same type of comment. Go do something productive today, like go outside and breath the fresh pacific air. Lawyers and our incumbent politicians suck. Neither should be trusted. Never vote for an incumbent.
ReplyDelete7:02- Take a look at Steve's first poop story to find out what he said to Dr. Lorri. If it is not there, it has been removed. Dr. L showed me the e-mail Steve sent her about this. Perhaps she will post it for all to see?
ReplyDeleteAnon 9:48
ReplyDeleteCan we PLEASE just get past the dog poop? Steve has very valid points you should start thinking about. If you'd take off your blinders you may just find some concurrance. In the intrim, you are sounding more and more like a mental midget.
