  1. Hago's is the real deal. It's so freaking good! Incredible food. The cost is a little more than your average taco shop but well worth the extra 2-3 bucks.

  3. Finally some common ground Anon. Forget Ricos {patch survey winner} Haggo's hands down is the best taco in town.

  4. I must respectfully disagree. They are a great healthy alternative, but neither the best taco in town nor worth the price.

  5. Ryan, who's got the best taco in town in your opinion?

I think Haggo's is awesome, but Yelpers consistently report unacceptable wait times. I never go during the lunch rush, so can't say myself. There are seating & shade issues. Eclectic & funky, maybe, but not user-friendly -- we always do carry-out now.

    Here's their web site.

  6. Ryan, There are many fine taco shops in this town for sure. I love Jorge's on Santa Fe but if you want a daily caught in local waters fish taco... Haggo's definately is worth the wait and extra cost for me. The carne'asada is pretty damn good too.

  7. Personally, I'm more of a burrito guy, and Juanita's does a nice carnitas. When it comes to tacos, Nico's is my favorite (not that they are that local). My wife is a big fan of Haggo's though. And to clarify, I have nothing negative to say about the food other than it seems excessively expensive. Stoked that they are doing well.

  8. Ryan, I couldn't agree less with your judgement. The best burrito in town is without a doubt the Carne Asada burrito with cheese from filiberto's. All other encinitas burritos are inferior.

My problem with the juanita's carnitas is the excesive amounts of grease that pour out of the bottom of it as you eat it. It makes you feel both disgusted and guilty, and does not lead to a good flavor.

  9. Well when I'm in the mood for seared dead animal flesh, I go to Kotija Jr. But I usually order fish or veggies because the more I think of a government subsidised grissely, fat, veiny, cow, chicken or pig with salmonella or worse who's been shackeled in a food lot all of its life, the less I want to eat critters. But it was cool seeing Larry Himmel do a segment on Haggo's yesterday! Nice shots of Leucadia too... Haggo's is awesome, but its hard for a glutton like me to feel full there.
