B&B, Barth and Brown

City council person Teresa Barth is hosting a meet and greet Saturday, November 10, 2 - 4pm at the Cardiff-by-the-Sea Library Community Room. At 2:30pm she'll give a brief update on 2007 accomplishments and what is planned for 2008.

This comes on the heels of Barth's major statement against closed session city council meetings which city watchers have long complained violate the Brown Act.

Barth said Wednesday night she will not attend any more closed-session meetings until the city switches its 24-hour notification policy for closed-session agendas to 72-hour notification. She said she wants citizens to have time to prepare to testify before the council begins discussions.

Ralph Brown sez: Don't violate my act bro..

  1. Kudos to Teresa. The Council has violated the Brown Act so many times, it is nice to finally see a councilperson having her constituants in mind. I wish Maggie would have done the same thing, but perhaps there was a reason for that. Maggie could see what went on, and Teresa could call attention to it. At least that is what I want to believe.
One answer to this problem is to get rid of Glen Sabine, our contracted City Attorney. He should resgin, but I doubt if that will happen. I belive that his contract is up this month, so perhaps those interested could make it a GET GLEN OUT month. ALthough his contract is worded that the City has to only give him 30 days notice. He has cost this City so much money that it is getting a bit out of hand. I have all of his billings since 2002, and he has only once billed using a paralegal. Most attorneys use them often, as it is a way to save money. Not so Glen. He charges his full fee. I have many examples, if anyone is interested. I would be happy to provide any facts and figures that I have accumulated on him over the years. He makes any fire station look like small potatoes.

  2. Yes, Glenn Sabine should resign or Council should not renew his contract. Maggie needs to step up to the plate on this one.

Check out Terry Francke's comments on the NCT blog, today, regarding the Sunday editorial.

Mr. Francke is General Counsel for Californians Aware, or Calaware, an organization out of Sacramento, specializing in public law. He is the rare attorney who does care about our civil rights and is not afraid to call out cities for violations of the Brown Act, which can be considered "abuse of process," against the citizens.

The pendulum is swinging. I hope the days of flagrant backroom dealing are coming to an end in our community. Thanks for your comments, dr. lorri, good to see you back!

Great posting, JP. Thanks for the links!

  3. Teresa is doing what see was elected to do, which was to clean up the mess at City hall.

Now if only she and Maggie can find the third vote to send Mr. Sabine packing.

I suggest everyone call Mayor James Bond and ask him to agendize the can Sabine vote.

Right on, bob. I agree completely and so do many other "folks" (as Maggie and Dan always designate us, the electorate). Anyone who knows what has been going on, "behind closed doors" for years, at City Hall, knows it's time for Glenn Sabine to go.

He can't admit he has been wrong. The facts, the law speaks for itself.

  5. You are MORONS! And that does not change the fact that calling something which is clearly legal an illegal act is stupid.

  6. Calling something which is illegal, legal, does not make it legal, and calling someone who shines the light on what the law says, what other lawyers and the state attorney general all say, a "moron" does not make that "clear" or true, either.

What is also clear is that some use the device of name-calling to confuse the message and obstruct the truth.
