More Chopping, a mistake?

City crew was up early this morning cutting down the last cypress tree in the roadside park. Word is they were only supposed to cut down the evergreen that is listing to the side.

*update--both trees were removed.

  1. OOOOOUUUCCCCCHHHH!

The City must be hell bent on making Leucadia look like El Centro!

If that’s a mistake, I can't wait to hear how they will mitigate the damage done.

Lets see what they bring to the table, before heads begin to role.

  2. The tree butchers did cut down the wrong tree I was there to see the last of the healthy tree on the north west corner get cut to the ground. I looped up to beacons to try and control my outrage and returned to see a city offical lambasting the tree crew for cutting the wrong tree so the crew finished the job and cut down the remaining cypress.
I'm sure the city will be back with a golden shovel some press and a sappling to make it all better.

  3. Unbelievable! Just when I think our city can't get any more incompetent, along comes something else to prove me wrong. Where was our city's high paid staff in all of this? Are the poor workers at the bottom going to get all the blame for this? If so, it will be an injustice.

  4. There should have been notice to the neighbors. Tree cutting should be considered a demolition. If the neighbors had been notified (they were apalled) perhaps the wrong tree would not have been cut down.

Part of the problem is that we should not have so-called "arborists" on staff. Do these guys have any kind of degree in forestry or botany? I think not. They are constantly looking for something new to hack down; that's sure the way this has been playing out in Leucadia.

I know that there was an ivy covered lamppost on our street, almost like a topiary. We all called it the Mushroom Tree. It was a local landmark. The "arborist," was going to cut down the "dead tree" over which the ivy had grown. The ivy was confined to the lampost and wasn't going anywhere.

Well, a sign was put on the Mushroom Tree, so that cars would not park there, by the curb. So we could and did immediately notify the city that was not a tree beneath the ivy.

Unfortunately, a developer, now bankrupt, who defrauded many individuals out of lots of money, cut down the lamppost, which could have been saved. Those old lampposts are part of the charm of Seaside Gardens. At the very least, the lamppost could have been preserved and relocated. Many birds were nesting in the Mushroom Tree.

It sure feels like we are paying City officials, with our taxes, to make our life miserable, and to destroy what matters most to our quality of life.
