I've been a huge advocate of sidewalks being installed in Leucadia but this has me scratching my head. What is the purpose of this curb element and why take away precious parking in an area where small business parking is already scarce?
On weekends it's not unusual to see up to 6 vehicles parked here. I guess now the surf trucks will just have to drive over this curb in order to park?
Last night Council approved a contract and budget of $4,500,000 million to upgrade the existing Leucadia Fire Station. That’s only for the new building alone. The City already owned the property. The station square footage is 7,000+SF at $650 a square foot... Can you say McMansion!
ReplyDeleteAnd the City is still going to upgrade the downtown and Cardiff firestations.
The $15,000,000 + used to upgrade these existing fire stations could go a long way to improve Leucadia's Railroad crossing, drainage, and road safety along HW101. All of these issues have been around since the City Incorporated. Why did remodeling firestations at $4.5million a pop, jump to the front of the line? I guess the political contribution and lobbying from our own highly paid fire department folks really paid off.
$15 million is a huge amount of tax dollars and is half the amount needed to properly solve the age old Leucadia flooding problem. Is much more than the cost to fix the deadly rail road crossing problem. Are these firestation upgrades really our town’s priority?
Teresa Barth abstained. Jerome Stocks never met a fire department perk that he didn't support. Classic you scratch my back and I will scratch yours. Vote accordingly in 2008.
That curb is lame. When i initially saw it going in i thought they had some great parking plan. Than i realized later that it was simply strange and took away all of the parking.
ReplyDeleteI don't see the problem. You can still pull two cars in from the side street and they should fit easily, plus 1 or two from 101 like the car in the picture and one can fit on the corner of the curb on the 101. so maybe they lose 1 spot, would it really hurt our quality of life if one less longboard was acquired this week. I say NO.
ReplyDeleteahh feels good to post on here again thanks jp
Hey Longboard Grotto! Demand to see the drawings. I bet you can get it changed!!!
ReplyDeletethis looks like old use meets new codes, but maybe not. the curb cut for the driveway would allow someone to drive right over the new curb and I bet they will again and again. Weird. I would love to see the sidewalk improvement drawings and compare them to the way it was actually built. I bet the two do not match. As Drawn - As Built; if it doesn't match you can reject it!!!
Not quite sure from the pics, but it looks like a tree planter?
