  4. The lot south of Las Olas is owned by a long time family who has lived in Cardiff since the 1930s.
The lot is leased to the restaurant. As far as I know, it's not for sale. The family used to own more land there, 12 lots in all, which were bought for $395 around 1937. Now those were the good ol' days!

  5. The city needs to get out of the surf lessons business. There are plenty of private citizens providing this service. The City banner at Leucadia Park is gross and adds blight to Leucadia. No one else is allowed to have an offsite sign, so say city regulations. They are stifling competition and have an unfair advantage.

The Parks And Rec department is bloated and needs to cut back - the city should not be a day care provider nor compete with private business.

  6. I agree. Those city signs should not be there and they were put up poorly and are flying in the breeze.
I wish people would take the sale signs down when their sale is over.
People are putting signs fortheir businesses in the medians and on the east side.
And the ugly Neon green Tommy Bahama signs are back, in mass.
It is bad enough with the construction going on and the horrible Leucdaia Blvd intersection.
Please, take your signs down when your garage sale is over. Don't put signs off sight for your businesses in the public right of way.
IT LOOKS LIKE LEMON GROVE, or Pismo.
HAVE SOME PRIDE. TELL THOSE BUSINESSES TO STOP UGLIFYING LEUCADIA, more than it is.

  7. Tommy Bahama doesn't sell samples. Those shirts are counterfeits from China. Don't buy anything from China.

  8. The banners at the park are the worst. When L-101 gets a permit for a banner for an event, I believe it's allowed for just a few weeks, and folks like Morgan do a good job making sure they don't sag. The current events blighting the park are not only blowing in the wind half the time, they're in place for months. I don't get that.

If we're going to allow signage for events around town (and we are), I'd rather see two artistic permanent posts at the park, with one event only, periodically anchored between them that is a removable, reusable, professional, flat, rigid sign measureing approximately 3' x 5' but not constrained within a rectangle shape or particular material. Most of all it should be attractive. I think that's possible in this day and age, regardless of how stark and sterile signage has become with computers, and the "I gotta have it now" crowd. But signs themselves (in reasonable doses) can be interesting, attractive and create a pleasant atmosphere in a business district - and they don't have to be the Mona Lisa. But hey, who wouldn't love a Mona Lisa sign!
