Barth Scooped by Rumored Council Candidate
It is rumored that Kristin Gaspar is running for city council. She was at the general plan festival today but apparently left before the presentations and feedback period, so I didn't get a chance to ask her about RR/Pedestrian policies and if she is running.

Does Gaspar have options on the railroad condos? Those would double in value.

ReplyDeleteIt makes sense, but I don't know why the city didn't get the railroad condo developer to pay for it. They could pay for all 4 crossings easily with the value improvement on the railroad condos.
Who is Ms Gaspar? I have never seen her speak at council meetings before.
ReplyDeleteDon't recall seeing her at any of the RR crossing meetings.
She's a past president of local Rotary and her husband has a physical therapy business. I'm not sure if that's the business she's referring to when she says she's a local business owner, or if she has a different business of her own.

ReplyDeleteI don't know why she would want to run. But, I know that she is a quality person who believes in supporting our environment and has a great record of running a strong community business.

ReplyDeleteMs Gaspar may not be a bad choice, and she makes a lot of sense. But it's so typical for someone foreign to the City Hall chambers to run for council. Their lack of understanding of our seperate communities always comes to light at forums as well. One reason I'm voting for Tony Kranz. He's not only attended meetings for many years, he understands everything about Encinitas, spending all his life here. On the other hand there are some fruits, nuts and flakes that regularly go to meetings. Not telling which one I am.

WC- I am with you on the pension issue. Dalager voting for his own pensions increase by 40% and and everyother City Employees raised 40% in 2005 should be a major issues this election. Dalager has some serious ethical challenges. Its pathetic that he is our council member.
ReplyDeletevote for anybody but an incumbent. It doesn't matter who we elect they will do a better job than the fools who run this city now. We should get a pledge to fire the city manager, city attorney and all department heads and hire someone that works for the people and not the employee unions.
ReplyDeleteConnecting some dots - Ms. Gaspar is the candidate of choice of Jerome Stocks. I would guess that he is one of the anonymous commentors above. She is the wife of Paul Gaspar, of Gaspar Physical Therapy. She apparently aspires to higher political office and hopes to begin her political career on the City Council. I don't know anything about her, have never heard of her, and she may be great or terrible. Hard to know until we see more of her. Still, having Jerome as her champion doesn't bode well for her in my book.

I have never seen Ms. Gaspar involved in anything related to the City. It doesn't mean she hasn't been, I just haven't heard of her, or seen her. Has anyone else? Tony Kranz, on the other hand, has been involved, and is reaching out to learn as much as he possibly can about our City, and how it is run. I have met with him and see him as a viable candidate, who could actually win a seat on the Council. He and Teresa will get my votes.
ReplyDeleteNever seen her at any city council meetings. It's obvious from the video that she was given a script to read, probably by Stocks, since he finally supports a quiet zone in order to help his buddy John DeWald.
ReplyDeleteShe must have disappeared quickly from the GP update meeting. I wanted to introduce myself, couldn't find her, and was told she had already left. That was all before the meeting itself started. I guess she only stayed for coffee and cookies. Not a good sign.
If she runs, it will be easy to see who is sponsoring her. Just look at the campaign funding and see where it comes from. That would tell us a lot. Does anyone, besides anonymous, know her. Perhaps she would like to post something on the blog like Tony did. Let's see if she can take the heat.

I'm going to vote for Theresa Barth, no one else. She stayed at the GP meeting, knows and supports Leucadia, and is an honest person who listens to her communities.
ReplyDeleteI'll listen to Krantz's positions, and perhaps support him after all. Gaspar is just trying to split the vote and help Jerome and Danny Boy.
I mean, even the Wasilla Wonder started with the PTA......

It always makes me sad when people offer comments like, "I will vote for any one , except incombents.". Not knowing anything about Jerome's pick.
ReplyDeleteTheresa has done a very respectable job, in spite of being lambasted, in her efforts of fairness for the public.
It would be silly to throw the baby out with the bath water.
Think first, then vote.
It certainly seems, from hearing and seeing her at council meetings and speaking with her that Teresa is the obvious choice to keep on the council. She is working for the community, not for special interests.
ReplyDeleteDo your homework. Tony and Teresa are the best choices, if you want your representitives to use sound logic and have the interests of the public on the forefront.
Backing a person that is Jerome's choice, (that you know nothing about), would only keep and maintain the voting block that make decissions based on special interests and cronie-ism. Is that what you want?
Lumping Teresa with the incumbants makes me wonder why. If she fights for us in dealing with staff and the council majority, it seems you are saying through the baby out with the bath water. Fine. But you will risk a 4-1 or 5-0 council super majority in the developers and unions pockets. Anyone even marginally involved knows that Teresa is in no one's pocket.

That person is so far out of the loop, there is no sense in wasting time trying to respond. currently, Barth is the only good Council member, the rest need to be dumped like rotten trash!

I see this statement to be true.
One example of many would be how she fought for the majority in voting to support the Planning Commission recommendations, acknowledge the results of a city funded survey, backed the majority public opinion and used the information that was available to offer a very reasonable vote when the Park & Rec dept. challenged the logical opinion of the Planning Commission concerning the Hall "Sports Park".
She and Maggie were voted down. As a result, as it stands, you will likely,(according to the head of P&R dept), not be able to reserve a field in the new 'Sports Park', even if you pay, unless you are a member of a sports league.
Worse, the sports leagues play for free. The rest of the public subsidizes the fees and can not use the fields.
Time and again, Teresa has stood up for transparency and fairness against the block of votes from council members more concerned with special interests.
I also feel that Tony Krantz believes and will battle for the rights and causes of the public at large, and not special interests.
You are an idot! You have to go to Teresa's website to give us examples. Next you'll go to Jerome's web site to tell us why he is also good for us.

ReplyDeleteTo the anonymous extreme-anti-incumbent commenter: Whether or not I think the incumbents are doing a good job, I do think that you are an angry little person. I would also guess that you are older, since it was my grandfather's generation that seems to have invented the idea of spelling out a piece of punctuation to somehow drive a point home. Period. You seem old, out of touch, and bitter, and really that's unfortunate. We live near the beach - you should down and check it out, it's very calming. I've lived here all of my life, am not a hippie, artist, stoner, or any other label you might want to choose in order to dismiss my comments here. I'm just a regular, normal, non-bitter person who can tolerate some discussion, and who just uses the punctuation keys on my keyboard (comma) as opposed to spelling out each one for to get across my emphatic unhappiness (period)
