There were 3 that I know of. The first to go was the one across the street east of the one in the pic. But the little mirrored one was the dazzlinest. WHO did em? Fess up. We love you.
In fairness, it is not the fault of the city. The city has reasonable rules about signs, advertising and art on public property. If the artist had worked with the city, the outcome may have been different.
Bullshit. You want to look at what the City wants for Leucadia Look at the intersection of Leucadia Boulevard and Hwy101. They have been saying they were going to improve that intersection for 20 years. Its still a blight nightmare.
You are right the rules are reasonable. The problem is they are not enforced uniformly. No stars but look at all the realtor signs left, in violation of our ordinances, on public property. What is good for one should be good for all. If you have to take the stars also take the realtor signs.
You are right. The workers do seem arbitrary in their judgement. Realtor signs, business promos inthe median, that garage sign that has been up for a month s. of Leuc Blvd are still there. And Leucadia Blvd crossing continues to be horribly ugly and dangerous. Thank Jerome, our NCTD REPRESENTATIVE. How about a big petition to make them do Leuc crossing improvements?
I don't mind the local banners at the park. Leucadia Nights and LeucadiArt and announcements about streetscape meetings. They benifit the community. The careless installation of the Park And Rec sign looks bad. Typical of the city's lack of asthetic thought when doing anything in Leucadia. The city web site has a great link to report signs, trees down and anything else that needs attention. They say they will respond promptly to valid issues. The city sign is really ugly, aside from the fact that they are compeating with private surf businesses. There is one surf school business that has choosen to put their sign in the public median. That is probably not appropriate either.
Not a fan of droopy banner signs here either. Obviously, event signs will frequently appear in the park. I think what's needed is an attractive and permanent framework for event signs - like two Tikis with removable cross bars to hold signs flat. Something that could be art, and wouldn't look like a sign holder at all for the times in between events. And something that wouldn't cost 16k like the Leucadia surfboard entry sign.

The ever changing and never changing banners at the Roadside Park are advertising blight. Cheap and ugly.

If you think this city sign is ugly, you should've seen some of the other entries.
