the City hates reports about all the death and accidents from high speed crashes it enabled along its wide fast roads. The City is liable for maintaining safety roadways. It been sued before and lost big time. It will be sued again.that road is designed for highway speeds. Its in conflict with the community. Yet the City spends its borrowed tens of millions on all new fire stations and a regional sports park. Vote for some intelligence in 2012.
I want a round about on Melrose Avenue... a residential street that parallels the 101. I can't get speed bumps because they say it's an Emergency Vehicle access road. Oh sure! An amubulance speeding down my road... with not enough room to pass an oncoming vehicle. Puhleeze. Dead cats, dead dogs, trashed mirrors, hit and runs... daily anxiety attacks. The speed on the 101 is not the problem... humans are. You slow down the 101 and they'll just find Melrose to make up time.
A Delta Airlines pilot pleaded not guilty Wednesday to vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and other charges arising from a fiery crash that killed his girlfriend and uncle in Encinitas in May. Brent Nathan Geren, 38, of Cardiff, was jailed in lieu of $400,000 bail at the end of his arraignment in a Vista courtroom. He faces up to 18 years if convicted of gross vehicular manslaughter and drunken driving charges. "This is an example how a single decision can turn into horror in an instant,"Deputy District Attorney Tracy Prior said. Geren's defense attorney did not respond to a request for comment. In court, he fought the $400,000 bail, arguing his client was not a flight risk. Geren had been drinking at a restaurant in Cardiff when he got behind the wheel of his 1974 Porsche Targa with his girlfriend and uncle as passengers about 8 p.m. May 1, the prosecutor said. Geren, she said, had a blood alcohol content of .18 percent when he drove his Porsche east on a somewhat winding section of Manchester Avenue. He was reportedly driving 77 mph near the intersection of Manchester Road and McKinnon Avenue ---- a 40 mph zone ---- when he crossed the double yellow lines and broadsided an oncoming pickup truck, she said. The Porsche burst into flames. Geren's uncle, Tom Couberly, 63, of Tahoe City, burned to death in the front seat, the prosecutor said, and Geren's girlfriend, Christina "Chrissy" Donaghy, was thrown from the backseat of the car. She died instantly. Donaghy, 42 and a spokeswoman for Optimer Pharmaceuticals, Inc., was not wearing a seat belt, Prior said. Witnesses pulled Geren from the car, she said, and he suffered burns over 20 percent of his body. Prior said that investigators found charred beer bottles inside the destroyed Porsche. The two people in the pickup the Porsche struck suffered injuries, including bruising, a rib fracture and a torn meniscus. One of the victims is still in need of future surgery, she said, and the other victim still suffers from head and neck injuries, Prior said. Geren is due back in court Aug. 10 for a readiness conference and Sept. 19 for a preliminary hearing The surviving people in the pick-up truck received Defendant is a jet-pilot for a major commercial airline.

This is all about taking responsibility for ones actions. I am no fan of the City of Encinitas, but they are not at fault here when people act recklessly. Lets save the City bashing for the things they truly deserve bashing over.

The problem is humans speed when the road feels safe to speed. Speed on 101 is a problem. It sound like speed on Melrose is also a problem.

That was a Grand Cherokee. It's shape shifted to Porsche size. Same Jackass required though.
