HOURLY RATE: $19.35 - $24.70/hr DOQ plus excellent benefits
THE POSITION: Under immediate supervision to provide customer service and cashier duties; process payments and petty cash disbursements; reconcile cash receipts and petty cash; process reports and bank deposits; and perform other duties as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT & ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Duties include but are not limited to:
Accept and input payments for fees, permits, services, deposits and monies paid to the City; reconcile cash receipts; prepare deposits; establish and maintain complete files for cash receipts; process reversals for NSF checks issued to the City; reconcile petty cash, prepare journal entries; provide service at the finance front counter; maintain departmental files; greet the public; answer the phone and route calls; provide customer service; and perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: The ideal applicants must have knowledge of: Cashiering procedures, customer service principles and procedures, mathematical principles, modern office methods and procedures including Microsoft Word and Excel. The ideal applicants must have the ability to: Work independently in the absence of supervision; accurately handle money, balance, audit and reconcile transactions; perform comparisons of data quickly; perform mathematical computations quickly and accurately; plan and organize work to meet timeline; communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; establish, maintain and foster positive working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: One year of clerical accounting and cashiering experience or the equivalent to the completion the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized course work in accounting, business mathematics, or a related field.

Bloggers' Question: What are excellent benefits worth? Maybe $10/hour equivelent?
$50,000 a year for an entry level high school diploma or GED level job! When the "excellent benefits" and not having to work on Fridays are calculated in, that job is well worth $65,000 in the private sector! Don't mention that you can retire 15 years earlier than the private sector lazy worker idiots. Sign me up for this job?

ReplyDeleteHeck, I think I will apply. Medical pays me $27.00 per hour with no benefits and I have to pay overhead, malpractice insurance etc. Not a bad deal. I thought the City was trying to save money. And I thought Gaspar wanted to switch to 401K's, or did I misunderstand her at the candidates forums?

I'm glad the city is hiring a new clerk for the front desk. I was very disappointed in the not-very-customer-friendly person who took my payment there recently.
ReplyDeleteI'm also disappointed in the personal nature of the comments on this blog. I would think that a real conversation about the worth to the city of a trustworthy, steady cash-handler would be more important. But I'm a newbie...and not likely to return.
I've used this plan twice. Now I don't need a man and I have plenty of time to hit the spa once a week and volunteer at the social good will clubs.
ReplyDeleteDiana: Since you are new to the blog, perhaps you may be getting the wrong impression of most of the folks who post. We really are not all that bad, it is just that we love our community and some of the comments are said out of frustration and some anger at the current Council. Perhaps you might want to read some past posts or get to know some of us via this blog or elsewhere. It is always nice to know what is going on in the community and J.P. and Kevin, who run this blog, are some of the best informed people in our City. I have lived here 30 years and what I posted was also a sign of frustration. Economic times are tough, and for me it isn't the salary, but the possible benefits a new person hired to work for the City may get is what concerns me. In the past, when things were economically great, I had no problem with all of the City benefits However, as things have gotten worse for the private sector, I would like to see the City also reign in benefits for the new people it hires. We cannot, as taxpayers, afford some of these benefits. And, the posts regarding Kristin Gaspar may have to do with what she promised when she ran for the first time for City Council and won, versus what she is actually doing. Of course others may disagree with me, but those are my thoughts.
