  2. Leucadian forever sez:

Looks like a great improvement for Leucadia. I hope they sell out and continue south with more development like this. The old motel look needs to go.

  3. Little boxes on the hillside,
    Little boxes made of ticky-tacky,
And they all look just the same.

  4. It would be nice if someone could provide a vison of what would be "acceptable", rather than just criticize.

These are ok - a little big, perhaps, but the ooncept is good - retail below, residential above.

Love to have more parking though.

  5. It's going on 2 years now and not one of the 12 units have sold. At least they were completed and won't be bare ass naked indefinitely like Barratt's white elephants on the other side of the tracks. The planning commission is largely to blame for permitting these obese and inefficient cramshacks to invade our neighborhood. Neither do they fit the "acceptable" examples presented in the Specific Plan. Therein lies the justification for critique, 6:00pm.

  6. 7:35 - Uh, in case you have not noticed, NOTHING has sold lately.

Correction: ALL of the businesses at Moonlight Lofts have sold. Shows you what a little extra parking can do.

  8. All the moonlight lofts have sold! Did all the owners and employees of the retail businesses buy the residential units? Did any?

    anon 600,

I didn't really see that much in the way of criticism in the first comments. I saw observation and opinion and since you have criticized the bloggers can you explain how having a vision could have changed what this development became? I think this development is Anytown USA. My vision is for places and contents new development in Leucadia to have unique characteristics., with maybe something funky or at least something that exhibits the special character of the people occupying the building.

Hypocrite you are! You call the building "a little big". What is your vision for the just right size? How big is too big? That building is NOT too big, it fits the Leucadia 101 specific plan and so expect all the buildings to BE that big.

Why is residential above such a good concept?

You would love a little more parking? The developer didn't think they needed more parking. They don't need to because the city and the taxpayer are going to provide more parking.

  9. Decent concept, improvement over the dirt lot, wrong look for location, overpriced.

Nope. The folks who run the businesses will NOT be living above them. They will Live and Work but in different places. Nice concept for people with brains during the Millenium though! But backward mortals? Forget it.)

  11. that building is butt ugly, it has all the character of white bread. where is Frank Lloyd Wright when we need him!!!!

  12. Ground floor commercial is for office space only? Not retail with that cramped design. Bad timing with collapse of the economy for this building.

  13. Retail would be great, for teeny expensive things like diamonds. Or a coffee kiosk, if the city hadn't made them block off their large sliding glass front doors with railing.

  14. L101 will become the office district. Design should follow.

  15. Yea... "Leucadia Shores" and "Moonlight Lofts" is just more cookie cutter orange county crap that is oposite of why Leucadia is so great. If people really want to "keep Leucadia funky" keep projects like these away. And for those people who think these projects are so great well move anywhere else in southern california that has that flavor.

  16. Puke. Not if I can help it. Time to change the Specific Plan zoning. The last thing Leucadia needs is more Realtors, Lawyers, Engineers, or Architects......Talk about a bunch of stiffs.... their offices would kill the charactor of Leucadia

  17. “If people really want to "keep Leucadia funky" keep projects like these away-“

    Hey Jesse-

You better get working on changing the specific plan, because if you don't.... those two buildings along with the vacant curved roof office space building is exactly what will be built in Leucadia.

You better call you posse together and head down to City Hall.

  18. Will "funky" sell?? Is there agreement on what is acceptable funky, but not trashy? Maybe there's a reason white bread sells so well....

    ReplyDelete
  19. the white bread aint selling.... its getting mold.

  20. Just shows that those friendly with staff and the planning commission can get anything through the city, anything. The average guy goes to the city and they tell you twenty excuses why you can't build a shed. It all depends who they like and who they don't. It ain't right, just like those mammoth buildings. Keep it funky....

  21. Yep, I have a lot of Realtor friends, but their offices shouldn't saturate 101. Those, lawyers, Engineers and Architects' offices create dead zones for complimentary businesses we like here. Ever get a postcard from anyone on vacaction with a lawyer's office prominately spotlighted? Never will. Or wait a minute, maybe I have stumbled onto something entertaining!

  22. who doesn't have a lot of Realtor friends? If you own a cell phone, a car and are a liar, you too can be a highly qualified Realtor.

  24. those don't look nearly as nice as the ones in Birdrock. No, this is pure Carlsbad. Nice knowin' ya, Leucadia.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Love it.
More power to those who have the vision to improve Funky L.

    btw...
A Frank Lloyd Wright building would cost about $1000 / square foot to build today.
Be happy with this much, not by typical developer standards 'cheap' construction.

    Good job!
