Leucadia gets new Bott's Dots!

Okay, this is nerdy, but driving down the Leucadia 101 at night is actually much nicer with our new Bott's dots. Thanks Dr. Elbert Dysart Botts!

  1. YES!! I heard a pile driver the other day going down the street and thought, oh great, what are they doing now? It's usually a chainsaw removing large growth greenery, but this time it sounded and felt more like War Of The Worlds, the way my shop shook. Nope it was ALL NEW BOTT DOTS being installed! The old ones were miserable and missing. The new ones show up for about a mile at night, even with my dim old Caravan lights! Awesome job, whoever you are! Kinda weird nobody even told us it was coming. Thanks.

  3. Aren't they going to have tear out those brand new dots when they redo the 101 for the streetscape?

When is the streetscape going to start and when can we plant trees?

  4. Maybe Jerome is hustling now that he's been caught on deferred maintenance.

  5. Yes, those dots will be torn out for the Streetscape. But ya gotta do whatcha gotta do.
We're still in the dark about when we get to plant the trees unfortunately, but have been told wheels are turning behind the scenes at city hall re the Streetscape. But like every good idea, there is much to consider and plan for before it can begin - lest they have to tear it up and do it again.

  6. Fred,

Much to plan for. How long has it been since the option was chosen?

  7. it will be years before anything is done on Hwy101... all the money is needed for the pensions.

  8. Hey! A new job for Dan
Dalager - he can use his head as one of those street dots. Rename it Dolt's dot!

  9. Hmmm how much you think the city (over)pays for those little things? $75-$100 each is my guess!

There's probably some conveniently academic study that says a road with dots saves X zillion dollars... justify their $big

  10. On the other hand, it could be more distracting if you're driving down the 101 at night on acid.

My guess is Cal Trans place the dots there because it was high time to do it.

Removing safety features on the hwy to accommodate those on acid is worse than removing roundabouts for the sake of reckless drunks. And WHO came up with the term reckless drunk? Sounds like an oxymoron. Guess I did.

  12. Fred

Cal trans has no jurisdiction on a local road. Get your facts straight before you jump on someone else.

    This is only phase 1.-

  16. The Leucadia Streetscape changes are years away. The downtown phase was in the works about 12-15 years before it materialized and it is still only half completed.

  17. 9:22- Yes phase 2 is yellow stripes down the road.

I think you're completely wrong. Cal trans has jurisdiction over all the roads in California. It's Cal Trans that picks up trash and cleans all the weeds out (when they feel like it, and when locals aren't pitching in themselves), not the city. Who told you Cal Trans is not controlling the highway locally? I'd really like to know.

  20. From their online site:

"Caltrans is the state agency responsible for highway, bridge, and rail transportation planning, construction, and maintenance."
