Good. Lets start the change by having the same amount of people that came in the last 20 years leave.
Beside no freeway capacity, we don't have the water to sustain the current population.
Its time to kill all on death row and make the criminals pay big for their mistakes. Let them build roads with shovels. Its time to take our society back and own it.
I would favor 2a if they can stay in the current right of way and to keep the expansion over the lagoon to a minimum foot print. Solana beach did a pretty good job with their right of way. Some of the other options are just crazy. A half billion dollars just for walls. Please. LL
If only all those mean Republicians had voted Democratic. Then Obama and Jerry would have given us billions to spend any way we wanted. Now we get nothing. I might have to move to San Francisco to have a better standard of living.
The Pacific View School site is sold away from the public realm tonight (11-10-10) as they vote to rezone it to "residential" - be there to voice your opinion, as $tock$, Bond and Dalager sell out the legacy of Encinitas to their developer masters.
Go more with the European/Autralian model. Autobanns and highspeed rail connect Cities and more mass transit and personal mobility (walking, bikes, skateboards, battery operated scooters, etc...) within the Cities and communities. The smaller communities are connected by small narrow roads.
LA style is massive freeways biscettting massive urban sprawl area with little to no facilities for personal travel.
As the dollar loses value and the the price of oil goes up past $100+ per barrel, the cost of gas will hit $7-9 per gallon. That should be enough to curb excess driving and kill off most business. Good luck finding food, let alone a job. But the nice thing will be , no cars on I-5 and less air pollution.
I see the Fed is buying 600 billion dollars in treasuries to stimulate the economy. They are trying to lower interest rates and get money flowing. Only thing is they have to print money because they don't have it. Pretty funny how it comes out just as obama leaves the country. Maybe he won't come back! If only we could be so lucky. Anyway, we might get some of that free money to widen the freeway as the whole state voted lock, stock and barrel for democrats. Too bad California's deficit just today jumped to 25.5 billion dollars even though the budget was passed a few weeks ago. There will never be enough money to fund the freeway widening, there will never be enough money to build the Hall/Dalager park. You better learn how to grow your own food and defend yourselves as that light at the end of the tunnel is a train wreck.
I vote Republican because I think all the jobs should go over seas and the profits to the top management. Taxes should be lowered on the upper income brackets so some pennies can trickle down to the peasants. I think the private sector has all the answers if we could just get rid of all the regulations we could have that nice brown sky again and drill right off Beacons reducing the cost of oil.
Now you want us to rank pelosi/reed/bo/barny/algore/ teddy/soros/boxer/fiendstein/ moonbeam/newsom/dodd/kerry along with Washington, Jefferson, Madison and real patriots. The country is in ruins thanks to those who vote in these lunatics. You know, barry and his group are a lot closer to lunatics like Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin and Lenin than any American.
So 9/11 was successful, Americans are now more divided politically than any other time in our history except for the Civil War...we are billions in debt...we do not lead the world in anything. We spend too much time blaming, let's put our efforts into the solution. Keep active in our City!
Coast Hwy 101 used to be the main highway before the I-5 freeway was built and traffic wasn't pretty. I am so surprised that everyone now is jumping on the bandwagon to stop the I-5 freeway widening. It is the latest thing to do I guess to prove that we are smarter and greener than those in OC and LA. They say build mass transit instead. Why, so someone else can use it so we can drive with less traffic. Who is that someone else? I bet it is not very many people. Mass transit works.... in a big city with tall buildings everywhere. Is that what will be induced. I say we need to go for max build or nothing at all. Why suffer the pain of 20+ years of construction knocking down every bridge and rebuilding every interchange when all we get is 2 carpool lanes each way that will reduce our commute by 2 minutes. Ask yourself this question, Do I want to widen the I-5 freeway corridor or do I want to ruin Coast Highway and those many surrouning neighborhoods by dumping lots and lots of traffic on them. Remember, traffic is like water. And wait for those Saturdays in the summertime when everyone from LA is going to Mexico. They will now be driving down your streets along the way. I say sacrifice the I-5 corridor for the benefit of our City. Would you rather widen I-5 or Coast Highway?
Mass transit does work. I never drive to LA, I take the Amtrack. Same amount of time and no agro on the road. The era of the car is over as we know it. Why not ban everything but smart cars from the freeway....seems this would open up a lot of space without widening it to accommodate SUVS and Trucking (bring back the freight trains!)
Design for more traffic and you will get more traffic. Design transportation intelligently and you won't end up adding even more lanes in 15 years. Expand efficiently within the right of way as it is now. Put all that money into solutions that will not make us all slaves to our cars. There are other options. All one needs to do is look at the rest of the world and how efficient so many metropolitan cities are. LA had the largest above ground public transportation system in the world before the gas and car conglomerates dismantled it. We need to fight to offer our kids a better way.
Right on 10:02. Only those living in teepees and caves can say no to expanding ther freeway. Everything you will touch today traveled by truck. Try getting the freight train to your local grocery store. If the 5 isn't widened we here in Encinitas will suffer with cut through traffic forever.
Someone suggested that we elected a Mom who doesn't want to spend time with her babies - you're assuming that she is going to spend that time with the city's business??? Remember Dalager - MIA for 8 years? Expect more of the same.
Let the coaster riders pay for all the costs of operating the trains. Cut public subsidies to the coaster, see how long it will last. Amtrac bond is doing real well. If you commute on it to la you have to work in downtown la. Have you ever tried to make a connection with the red line? What if you work in the valley? How is amtrac going to help you then. You seem to be uneducated on the subject of the la commute but yet you open your mouth.
7:26-If you take the Coaster or Amtrack to downtown and then take a taxi to the Valley you're problem is solved. It would take less gas, taxi's are always there, and the I-5 would not have to be expanded quite so much. Let's face it. There is probably no money to really do this so we are getting into a tizzy for nothing. If you want to reduce your footprint on this planet, get creative. Lots of ways to do it instead of always driving your car. I lived in L.A. when the Red Cars were running. Back then most people did not have 2 cars and somehow people managed to get to work, get their food and supplies, etc. Of course, General Motors bought them and tore down the tracks to make room for cars and then, of course, roads to allow these cars to move on. But you can still see some of the tracks around Verdugo Hills on the hillsides. Water is the next big concern, not freeways, IMHO. Whoever controls the water, controls the people. Do you know the history of the L.A. Water District. It is not pretty to say the least. Watch the movie "Chinatown" with jack Nicholson to get a general idea about the beginnings of the water supply situation in Southern California. It was once privately owned and could be again. That is scary, at least to me.
the bottom line is that there are too many people. rats in a cage. work on that problem 1st. QUIT BUILDING OUT EVERY OPEN SPACE. no matter what happens, if there are too many rats in the cage, there will be problems. widen the fwy to 20 lanes and in time there will be gridlock. fix the source of the problem. bandaids only mask the problem. one child per couple would work too. some of you might scoff but the source of most of the worlds problems these days is over population. face the facts.
My dad, often wisely, reflected on the causes of many of our society's ills. He had many thougtful insights. The one that comes to mind now is..... "Too many fucking people fucking"
Hey Kristin basher - GET OVER IT! She spends an enormous amount of time with her children, and when she has evening meetings her Husband is with them. Do you have issues with all working mothers. Should mothers all stay home to serve their husbands and keep their opinions to themselves? Please enlighten me. Your constant dribble is boring. JTB
We have to expand I5! This highway was designed in the 1950's, built in the 1960's, and has not changed since!

ReplyDeleteWe don't need to expand I5. There are some great cut though streets in Leucadia and Cardiff.
ReplyDeleteIf they don't widen I-5 the 101 will be a cut thru until they do.

ReplyDeleteExpand as much as possible. Trains don't work. We drive cars.
ReplyDeleteYeah.... pave everything and lets follow the failed model of building a city just like LA. that City turned out great didn't it?
ReplyDeleteyou people disappoint me. you will never learn.
Anon 9:09
ReplyDeleteHow do you get around or communte?
Go more with the European/Autralian model. Autobanns and highspeed rail connect Cities and more mass transit and personal mobility (walking, bikes, skateboards, battery operated scooters, etc...) within the Cities and communities. The smaller communities are connected by small narrow roads.

ReplyDeleteLeave it alone. Increase the ridership on the coaster. Stop designing our environment around the car, and start designing for the pedestrian!
ReplyDeleteAnd stop buying houses out in the middle of no where and live where you work!
350,
ReplyDeleteWhy? I'm sure it seems obvious to you, but why?

ReplyDeleteOur City is done. and the rest is true.

Neither. Let the traffic back up to Ventura and less people will make the trip, or will find a way to take a train.
ReplyDeleteLets raise gas tax!

ReplyDelete"taxi's are always there, "
ReplyDeleteTaxi's use fossil fuel and so do trains.
Taxi's require more fossil fuel use than driving your self because they have to make more back trips with an empty car.

ReplyDelete440 and chris.
ReplyDeleteThe outcome of the I5 expansion does not change the immigration or birth rate.
I5 widening does not correct the problem. The problem is too many people living in so CA.
ReplyDeleteNot enough resources including water.
I like the no build option.

ReplyDeleteYou've never driven a taxi, one leg of a trip is the beginning of the next. Must be nice having your meals all paid for.
