Whatever the election results turn out to be for our beloved little town I would like to put out a call for civility for all everyone in the community to embrace.
What an ugly, ugly mess this election run was. I mean, just gross and low class.
The sad thing is that most of the players involved are parents and grandparents. Yet, the behavior was despicable. The lying, the backstabbing, the anonymous comments and impersonations of candidates on the blogs. All very disturbing.
The deceptive mailers, the half truths and flat out lies were evil and immoral (they may have worked too which is truly depressing).
It has to stop. We can't let this be the path of Encinitas politics. We have to be better than this. The seething anger in this country towards anyone who disagrees or is different, it's seeping into our sleepy little beach town and it's going to destroy us.
Everyone take a deep breath, have a nice dinner, enjoy your family, take a hot shower to wash the filth out of your hair and get a good night's sleep. Let's start over in the morning.

ReplyDeleteThank you for your sage comments. The division in out city reflects our country. The news machines, political gamesmanship and greed has led to a society with no middle ground. Kind loving people from different camps are confident their outlook is correct. The fear I have had is that we will end up with leaders that will further foster this divide.
We would be well off if we could, in our future, compromise for the benefit of all, more often.

Unfortunately your plea will be ignored by those who participated in the smears and lies because those people are win at all costs thinkers. You might as well ask them to give up breathing. The only way to deal with stupidity is to vocalize the truth -- this election saw just that with Kranz and Barth keeping their sanity, dignity and direction, and inspiring many many Encinitans to step up and help to make a difference by spreading the word and showing up at the polls. wow. Another brillant comment by an anonymous fool. What are you trying to achieve at 7:39 pm? Influence someone's vote 10 minutes before the polls close? Make a point? On this blog post of all things? Have a nice life you sad pathetic man. Nobody loves you.
I share your sentiments, however, let's be honest. Most - not all, but most of the vulgarity on this blog has come from supporters of Dalager and Gaspar. And all, not some, but all of the deceptive slate mailers came from Dalager and Gaspar. What's different about this election is that for once, primarily due to Dalager's legal problems, there is a real chance of reversing the 3-2 majority held for the last decade by developers and big money. That's why it got so dirty. Because, they can't stand the idea of losing power, and any means is justified to retain it. We may lose. If you consider the money spent by Dalager and Gaspar and their supporters, the odds certainly favor them. If that happens, we will sulk for awhile, lick our wounds and move on. My worry is if we win, the other side will not accept it. They will go into slash and burn mode, and the climate will remain ugly even after the election. How do you have a sit down with people who want to wipe you off the face of the earth?

The special interest powers that have this town in their grip won't be any different; they still have an agenda to pursue at the expense of the greater community. Dalager should lose, but Gaspar will likely win - she will be the new Dalager, voting in lock step with $tock$ and Bond. On November 10, they will vote to rezone the Pacific View School site to residential zoning, forever losing one of the most unique potential public use properties immediately adjacant to the coast. This is the legacy of $tock$, Bond and Dalager - the damage they've wrought will outlive all of them.
