"He did a good job of bringing it to the fore,"

Encinitas mayor delivers state of the community address

He spent at least half of his 30-minute address talking about himself and about Encinitas' early days as a city. Far less of his speech focused on the present and the issues the city faces.

Your thoughts?

  1. As for streets, Bond said, "We need more of them and we need wider streets. Traffic will never be the way you want it. You will never be able to jump in your car at 7:30 in the morning and get to where you're going as fast as you want to because everyone else is trying to get there, too."

He might as well say- “Lets Make Encinitas a Highway for Carlsbad”.

I heard bond put a bumper sticker on his car that says “ I love LA”

Who is clueless about the vision for Encinitas?

I think Bond should step down in 2008. 16 years of LA attitudes has done enough for our coastal town. Maybe Bond should finally really retire and enjoy some peace.

  2. That’s a great idea, Jim.

Why don’t you start by pulling out all those 4 ways stops on Rancho Santa Fe Road and widening to a 4 lane road. I sure your Olivenhain constituents will love your fine improvements to create a new widened road through Olivenhain. I also bet the Rancho Santa Fe crowd will love you too.

Jim- Its not all about more cars....Are you capable of learning from the LA and OC mistakes?

  3. Is Bond, James Bond trying to tell us that without the Fire Dept ladder truck the whole of downtown Encinitas would have burned to the ground?? What folly!!! What poppycock!! Again he and the entire city council insult our intelligence!! The real insult being that it took the property owners and businesses 2.5 years to rebuild and open for business again!! Why?? City Rules and regulations and needless paperwork. All approved and generated by councils which Bond was and remains a member!!!

When Bond runs for relection again, he'll drag out the same old tired signs that say, " ENCINITAS NEEDS JAMES BOND!! " To which I asked then and I ask now, WHY????

  5. James Bond's speech was extremely boring and very self-serving. He rambled on way too long. He said he wasn't going to read a speech and then ended up reading a very long list of "bullet points" prepared by staff. Whew, I thought he would never stop. A lot of people left early.

He bragged about the percentage of recycled trash, but wasn't sure about the color of the recycling containers. And he said we would need 70-foot wide streets to handle the traffic. He's very proud of his accomplishments.

  7. It was very sad to see this babbling idoit talk about himself for 30 minutes in terms and technology from the wooly mammoth era.

Encinitas is such a dynamic, vibrant, smart, educated, enviromentally aware, diverse, city and to have the state of the city address be delivered by Jim Bond was embarrasing to all who heard the presentation

  9. All my neighbors keep voting for James Bond. Like the superhero 007 secret service agent. Get it?

My neighbors are nice people but they are idiots.

  10. As someone put it in the NCTimes- Mr. Bond is not "007", just a plain "0".

    Ouch- That one stings.

I hope Mr. Bond steps down in 2008. Otherwise, the candidate forums will be filled with stories about the past instead of ideas about the future.

We all know how great Encinitas has been in the past, Even well before "0" came here. Thats why we all still live here.

Its time to focus on the present problems and future quality of life.

  11. Good posts, yes we can learn lessons from the past, but we do need to take action NOW to ensure and protect our quality of life and the character of our community.

  12. The comments on the NCT website are classic, lol.

  13. Some of this strikes me as the story about the proud father who, upon watching the parade, announced to all within earshot, "Look at that, everyone is out of step except my son!"

  14. I don't get the last comment. Bond is our mayor for a year. But he is really out of step, now.

We need to call him on his stuff. He should present a state of the city address to Council at a regular open meeting, not at a ECC (Encinitas Chamber of Commerce) event, staged by and for insiders to lobby City Council, openly sponsored by the business community, but where city staff was paid to write out bullet comments for Bond and all those lobbying him at $250.00 per table dinners.

Yeah, JP, the NCT blog comments in the paper today are hillarious!

  15. The other thing that Adam Kaye did not report was that the city of Encinitas bought two tables to the tune of $20 per person - 10 people per table. That is our tax dollars the city is spending and the two tables we the taxpayers are buying were not filled up. Many city staffers used our taxpayer paid tickets but the city council people sat with their friends, some with their chamber friends, Dan with their Rotary friends, some with their Fire friends, etc. Enough is enough. STOP spending our tax dollars.

  16. The city likes to party on our dime. I think they should host a kegger down at D-St this summer with funds from the streetlight program. At least that would be fun.
