As you are aware the City is initiating the North Coast Highway 101 Streetscape Project and is scheduling a number of opportunities for community involvement.
Community Participation Workshop #2 - Thursday, May 29, 6:00 pm - 8 pm at Encinitas Civic Center. Please spread the word regarding this workshop to have as much public participation as possible.
Leucadia Blog: Leucadia Streetscape Saturday
I am going. That stretch of road is deadly and needs a good fixin.
ReplyDeleteIf designed right, you wont have kids flying at 85 mph and killing innocent people and you won't have all those people hauling ass through Leucadia and Encinitas to just to get to San Diego when I5 is packed. If people want to haul ass or get to San Diego they should stay on I5.
Our mainstreet is for local Encinitas residents or visitors and should include nice landscaping, bike lanes, plenty of parking for successfull businesses and nice wide pedestrian walkways.
The beach is for enjoyment and cruising really slow like 25 to 30 mph. Lets design it that way.
Get involved or hold your peace when its all said and done.
Anon8:40- Well said, direct those comments to the city council also. Question, do you know what has become of the case involving the 85MPH crash?? Any charges brought against the kid driving?? If not, why???
ReplyDeleteStaggering up and down a hwy that is too wide, too fast, and lacking decent landscape. It's your RSPB!!
Keep bringing up undergrounding the tracks, too, NOT undergrounding the pedestrian passageways.
ReplyDeleteIf they build the tunnels we will NEVER get the tracks undergrounded. The plan to build the tunnels is already working its way through planning, having closed the time period for public comments re environmental impact.
Improvements coming to Leucadia, or just a clever new way to rip out the rest of our 101 trees? Buyer beware.

ReplyDeleteThe first phase is from A street to North ct.
There are no medians, so no trees in the median to be takin out. Noting significant in the nctd railroad right of way either in that stretch.
Just an asphalt jungle of high speed cars.
What will happen is speed reduction, lane reduction and mucho more trees being planted including in new medians.
Let the tree canopy begin!!!!

ReplyDeleteI obviously wasn't talking about the Phase 1 area that doesn't have trees.
The area for future phases Eucs will all be dead by then. They are all beyond their natural life cycle. Even trees have a natural life span.
ReplyDeleteWe better plan on the right design and then start planting our future canopy for the next 100 years.
