The United States is not immune from a Mexico style kidnapping wave. Ransom kidnappings are already common place in Pheonix AZ (See USA Today). Yesterday, the NCT reported that Leucadia became the place for a ransom drop. A man had been told that his brother was being held for ransom.
"In Leucadia, the man reportedly saw his brother in the back of a grey car with Arizona plates, but the [possible] kidnappers punched him in the face and drove off instead of freeing his brother."
That is one weird story. Someone kidnaps a man in Mexico and keeps him in Leucadia for 7 years and counting? What kind of motive is behind that? Slavery?

CARLSBAD — A 19-year-old gang member has been arrested in connection with Saturday night's fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man, police said.
Javier Antonio Lopez was taken into custody Sunday afternoon at his home in La Costa where he lives with his parents, homicide Lt. Kelly Cain said.
Detectives obtained a search warrant and found evidence at the home that Lopez was involved in the crime, Cain said. Cain wouldn't say what they found, but said investigators didn't find a weapon.
Lopez is suspected in the death of 21-year-old Juan Carlos Balderas of San Marcos, who was found shot to death Saturday just after 8 p.m.
Police discovered his body in a vacant lot after gunshots were reported near Madison Street and Chestnut Avenue, just west of Pine Avenue Community Park, Cain said
Lopez and Balderas were members of an Encinitas gang and the initial investigation indicates that the homicide was gang-related, Cain said.
There may have been an altercation involving another gang from Carlsbad before the shooting, Cain said.
Lopez is being held without bail at the Vista Detention Facility and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
