Encinitas poised to elect nerd girl

Yes, that is Kristin and Paul Gaspar in the above photo (swiped from the North County Times website).

Well, I am a pretty big comic book fan so maybe this is good? Or is this some crazy Tea Party thing? Anyway, it's looking like Gaspar is going to be our newest city council member. Fun times ahead?

135 comments:

  1. Dalager may be gone, but Gaspar will fill his shoes (probably bought with an illegal loan). The city is doomed to more of the same - $tockS is popping champagne right now - he has another stooge to do his bidding!
Question is - will $tock$ visit Danny in the cooler? Move over Duke - you've got a new roommate!

  2. You might as well shut down the blog for good. Any informed citizen of Encinitas will not have anything good to say about this.

The blog has halted comments forever!

it shows how stupid encinitas voters really are, to allow special interests to buy our towns council.

    Simply Pathetic.

I hold no hope for Encinitas now.

The dividing line will now be Solana Beach (nice beach town) / Encinitas ( Carlsbad style town)

I bet Cardiff petitions to become a part of Solana Beach. I wish Leucadia could.

Its time to look for property in Solana Beach and get out of Encinitas.

  3. Time to focus on getting Stocks out of Office in 2012 for helping to orchistrate the huge 40% raises in Government pensions in 2005.

That dude is one HUGE RINO!!!!

    Oinch Oinch!!!!

  4. 10:45 don't be such a drama queen. You win some, you lose some, but don't give up the fight.

    ReplyDelete
  5. how do we know that is really Kristin and her husband, and if so, are they still drunk from Halloween and can't remember how to unzip each other's costumes...or did they really choose her first public rally on a streetcorner to be in costume...either way, the answer is frightening!

    ReplyDelete
  6. What do you call those boots she is wearing? Oh wait, maybe we are the ones who just got f____d.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I understand that their planning their attack on Maggie now, look for it to be simular to Danny's.

I guess what goes around, comes around.

    ReplyDelete
  8. It now looks as if Kristen is now the most popular Encinitas Councilperson.

    ReplyDelete
  9. How did Kristin beat Teresa so badly? I don't get it!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Since she won by a landslide, I guess will have a superhero as our next Mayor.

    ReplyDelete
  11. We will have a none-caring mother as our next council member. I sure hope they pick a nice nanny to race their children. The last thing this City needs is more screwed up teenagers.

Sorry to see Loser Mom elected. Man this town is dumb!

    ReplyDelete
  12. How much did the Eckes and Meyers donate to Gasper? that ought to be interesting?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Well, it shows what $, physical attractiveness, the Rotary Club, and having a baby instead of participating in City issues for the past 10 years will get you.

2012 - Maggie won't run again. I don't think Jim will either. Getting Stocks out is huge. Wish us luck...

    ReplyDelete
  14. Congrats Teresa. Thank you,Tony.
I do still believe you would have been a better council member.
    Dalager's loss is appropriate.
The biggest winner is the individual who has participated least and knows less about the issues and ran the ugliest campaign with the most money.
Democracy, the worst form of government, outside of all the rest.

    ReplyDelete
  15. "The blog has halted comments forever!"

Then how did you post that???

    ReplyDelete
  16. This is not the worst thing that has ever happened to Encinitas. I think we should call a truce for a while a giver Gaspar a chance. I voted for Teresa and Tony, so, of course I am disappointed. But it is not the end of the world, or the the end of our amazing community. At least if we don't make it that way. Let's show the class that Teresa did in the election, and do our best to make this work. At least those are my thoughts the day after the election.

  17. Encintas's electorate again shows that an uninformed base will vote for a candidate based on glitzy, misleading campaign propaganda, a horsey grin and stupid stunts. The Valley girl got up at forums and spouted generic lines with no substance - I quess with such empty air, the voter fills in the blanks with their expectations.
Good riddance to Dalager - he refused to accept responsibility for his own blunders and was in complete denial of having done anything improper. He was absolutely unworthly and incapable of continuing in public office. I suspect the DA, who is part of the developer-friendly group, will quietly dismiss the investigation and let Dalager off the hook.
Two more years of business as usual, then the attempt to rid the city of $tock$ - this guy has to go, as he is the worst thing ever to have happened to Encinitas. The developers and land barrons are celebrating today!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Good call Dr. Lorri. While we certainly would have been better off with Tony instead of Kristin, we should give the new council a chance to see how they work together. It's hard to imagine anyone would be as downright bad for Encinitas as Danny, so any way you look at it, we're better off now than we were a month ago. Maybe Teresa and Maggie can convince Gaspar that there's some sort of "girl power" reason to vote together?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Dalager made a comment to the press that he can make more money doing a minimum wage job than he was making as a city councilman. Let him make license plates in jail for awhile - this guy is ungrateful for the opportunity that was given him by the voters. He failed their trust and brought dishonor upon himself - he just hasn't figured that out yet (and probably never will).

    ReplyDelete
  20. Does a tiger change its sripes? Don't hold your breath. Gaspar will do whatever her husband tells her to do, and his interests are aligned with Stocks and Bond and developers and zoning. Just goes to show you, 29% of voting Encinitans don't care. What an embarrassment.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The big winner is Gaspar and the big loser is Houlihan.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Good bye Dan,

You have sullied you families honor and the city of Encinitas's reputation enough. I do hope you realize that for the rest of your life, you will be known as the crook they voted out of office. A failure.

You have brought shame to your family name and turned Encinitas into Toonsville with your arrogant and divisive politics.

Your dogma on the Hall park as a singular focus put you in last place. This goes to show that the votors want a balanced park as they rejected you.

    What a legacy!

I have hopes for Gaspar as far as her civility. I don't care really how she votes, just be a team player and respect her fellow council members.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 8:55 - where have you been, Dalager was the big loser in this election.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I voted for the Cardiff Kook, can't be any worse than any existing or future council member.

    ReplyDelete
  25. 8:46 - You mean 58% of voters. 58% of ballots were cast for Gaspar, and she got 29% of the total votes.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Encinitas is BK!!November 03, 2010 9:27 AM

10:45PM- you are right on the $$$, get your $$$ out of Encinitas and move it to Del Mar or Solana Beach. Those are communities on the up and Encinitas is on it's way down. Go where the $$$ goes.

Encinitas is BROKE. A in no mulla, no dinero, no Franklins. who will be the mayor when that is announced?? Move your CA$H while you can, your property values will dump soon. SB will maintain and DM will rise.

    ReplyDelete
  27. What does Dalager do with all his campaign posters - make dog houses out of them? Dogs would probably run away at the sight of them! I wonder if Aztec Appliances will still be selling old Danny anymore cut-rate appliances? Probably not - nothing left to 'exchange'. The bank that Dalager works for better drop him fast - he is now a stinking red herring. Maybe Encinitas Ford will hire him to polish their cars that they can't sell. Any business that endorsed Dalager is questionable - and car dealers are suspect from the gate. Go to car country and buy there.

    ReplyDelete
  28. BREAKING NEWS!!! DALAGER RESPONDS!

"whut juz happuned? i was de mayer , den i es booted out! I wants more muney fer my vote - so i cun eat! I knows wut is up in de city - i gots a desk and fancy pens ta sign deals fer muney fer my retirement. Maybe i wills run again sumday!"

Yes - we have lost the missing link as our representative.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Prop P- What in the hell are the voters here thinking?? Again the voters get conned into thinking that if the poor, poor kiddies don't get their garden to grow some veggies they will fail in life. Shit, most Encinitas teenagers are already failures, just waiting for some govt job or handout.

I'll never forget the SDA grad that so proudly told me we had 52 states. And Alaska and Hawaii being the 51st and 52nd. I'm sure all this will change with the passing of Prop P.

    Good Luck!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. 9:48
You are mistaken. The community garden is not funded with P. That was one of the untruths that was thrown out.
    Not true.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 10:07- still doesn't make prop P any smarter, just like the children of Encinitas.

What will your child grow in his/her garden??

    ReplyDelete
  32. There are a handful of really grumpy weirdos in this community that hate gardens. Remember the drama about the senior citizen community garden?

    ReplyDelete
  33. 10:07

Correct on the FUNDING, but the garden was being tied to the outcome of prop p.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Gaspar for mayor!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Call Elizabeth Weiner at the International Rotary 847-866-3000.

I have called and will continue until heads roll at our local Rotary. The fact that Stocks, Gaspar and Phil Cotton (Dalager too but no longer an issue) attend these community meetings may be a violation of the Brown Act.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Who says MONEY can't buy elections!

    ReplyDelete
  37. ...AND who said you could ever win with stupidity?

    ReplyDelete
  38. You need to go back and read the Brown Act before commenting. If they are going to violate it, it is easy to do out of the public's view anyways.

    ReplyDelete
  39. what is wrong with you people? I see nothing but attacks fired at somene nobody knows personally....maybe instead of worrying about her kids you should get off your high horses and do something to improve the city...losers. do something constructive...

    ReplyDelete
  40. Gaspar is an unknown and many people fear the unknown. It is up to her to win the doubting public's trust. The ball is in her court.

    ReplyDelete
  41. So happy you're venting your frustration. Why all the jealousy? Perhaps next time you could be pro-active and run for Council! Folks such as you are just angry inside most of the time. This probably isn't the only forum where you are nasty. When you are on your last days, do you want people to remember you as a rotten person? Let's give Kristin Gaspar a chance to prove herself, okay? I have all the confidence in the world that she will do a great job until I see differently. Do you have nothing else going in your life except hanging out on the blog and writing negative comments? I feel sorry for you, I really do.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Great job Kristin! So proud to have you on the City Council! It's about time to get a fresh breath of air!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Pay no attention to the negative folks on this page, they just don't have a life!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Maybe most of you on this blog should consider anger management?

    ReplyDelete
  45. 1:50 PM Join the crowd

    ReplyDelete
  46. Will there be a farewell party for Dalager?

    ReplyDelete
  47. We should be proud of our efforts to get Dalablabber off the council. Because of our efforts a shoe-in incumbent came in last! Not through any smears or lies, but by daylighting the truth about his violations of law. That sends a chilling message to Stocks and Bond.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Kristin will do a great job!

Why don't you all relax and go get a life! Let's see what the future holds before passing judgment and being so critical. Do you ever have a positive comment to post? Why all the anger? Next time a seat is open on the City Council, perhaps those of you who are so critical should consider running...what a concept!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Divide and conquer is what we have here. Until we find common ground things will never change for Encinitas. Tony never seemed to find his voice. I thought he was riding on Terrisa's coattail a little too much. Maybe he should of been the quiet man and gave us nothing like Gaspar did. He just could not compete with all that money being thrown at Gaspar. Let us hope that she will be her own person and find consensus with those who don't always agree with the other side of the argument. LL

    ReplyDelete
  50. For some of the new folks on the blog, it would help to understand why a lot of folks are disappointed in Gaspar's win. It really is not about her personally. At another time she would not have to deal with the negative feelings harbored. Many believe that a candidate with little city hall involvement, with strong ties to 'the wall of sausage', that has had a strangle hold on council agendas and decisions,
might not be the first choice for allowing as open government as many wish. Gaspar has stated she wanted to create a better working relationship for all. Her campaign machine and supporters have unleashed the ugliest deceitful election ever. Many feel she was rewarded for that.
I hope they are wrong and that she will execute her promises to unify, as stated in her literature. But, she also said thing that were untrue and misleading in the same literature.

    ReplyDelete
  51. " I see nothing but attacks fired at somene nobody knows personally...."

Good point. To be fair most people are critical of her public affairs.

    "losers."

    Name calling is not constructive.

    "do something constructive..."
What have you done to help at city hall?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Interesting how the Leucadian blog completely SHUT DOWN and CENSORED all commentary on the blog leading up to the election in a move to reduce the number of people seeing what a kook Kranz really is. Not only was the ability to post comments suspended but even the ability to become a member and log-on was unavailable. Shame on the Leucadian for taking away the communities ability to communicate freely. Take a screen shot of this comment because when the editor sees it, it too will disappear along with all of the other constructive criticism written herein. The editor is an obvious fan of Saul Alinsky's book Rule-for-Radical...rule #27 silence your critics!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Wrong. I shut down the comments because you guys were ruining my wife's birthday and my Halloween weekend with my kids by impersonating candidates and people on both sides were being creepy jerks. I couldn't take it anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Rules were violated. J.P. took away our toy and told us to go sit in the corner and think about it. Some of us did. Unfortunately, some did not. Grow up people. LL

    ReplyDelete
  55. They dun don't have Danny Dalager to kick around anymore! (His farewell speech)

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm hoping Kristin is different then the campaign she ran, I was looking for honesty and her mailers left doubt in my mind as to her integrity . We'll see soon enough if she's an independent voice or one of the guys with lipstick.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Who ever called Terrisa that horible name... STAND UP! and declare your self. You have no honor sir! You are a coward! LL

    ReplyDelete
  58. LL,

The Coast News named him. Allegedly a local dentist and Rotarian named Fitzpatrick.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Truth is that this website is as much garbage as the magazines you can pick up at your local grocery store. This trash isn't worth my time or yours and I'm sure they will delete this comment within seconds.

    ReplyDelete
  60. 5:40

Actually, it's been over 18 minutes they left your tripe on this blog. It's open speech such as on this blog that separates us, from the slime, from which, we emerged.

    ReplyDelete
  61. 5:40,

Do you submit comments to those trash magazines too?

    ReplyDelete

  63. W.C. I know that he has been outed. I would like to see him admit it in public. Balu get over your self. Censorship is rare on this blog. There are a few on both sides that say all kinds of vile things about people but it is rare. Most do not say vile things but may get a little kooky sometimes. I have been accused of all kinds of things that are untrue. Big deal. Get over it. LL

    ReplyDelete
  64. Tell me LL, why should we put up with any instance of censorship. I have now had a comment deleted from this blog 6 times. I could maybe understand and abide by having this blog delete offensive posts (such as the terrible name calling upon both Barth and Gaspar). Also, you'll note that even though J.P. claims he only felt the need to delete impressions of candidates, but I guess that isn't true if it's a Dalager impression. But my post was not offensive or rude, nor was it an impression of anyone, it was just in opposition to the blog writer. WE SHOULDN'T STAND FOR ANY CENSORSHIP.

I reject your plea for me to 'get over myself' as my opposition to this blog has nothing to do with me thinking I am amazing, but instead that I am tired of being silenced and I think others on here are tired of it too.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Has anyone ever submitted an editorial to the Leucadia blog that got rejected for any other reason than it was way too boring?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Boring or not, I should be given the right to voice my opinions here. If this blog is to be a place for Encinitas residents to speak about the issues then it needs to allow all non-offensive posts.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Censorship is a reality. Free speech comes at a cost. You can not scream fire in public if there is no fire. You will go to jail. You can not call a public servant a whore in a public forum. You will be sued. This is much different than calling someone a bitch on a local blog. I don't condone it but it's apples and oranges to me. Looks like J.P. has a link to your blog so I don't understand your rant. LL

    ReplyDelete
  68. LL you and everyone else on this blog should be notified that another post I had made in response to LL's response at 8:06 was just deleted.......more censorship.

J.P. why are you so afraid to let me be heard? Come on Leucadian, there was a time this was actually a good place for people to talk, but now all it does is silence though that you disagree with!
    Stop embarrassing yourself!

    ReplyDelete
  69. What the hell are you babbling about? What deleted comment are you referring? Which post? What did it say? Are you sure you posted it? Are you drunk? Post it up again dude because I'm curious what important thing we all need to know. Better yet email it to us an editorial and get an entire blog post to yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Isn't it strange that your comments about being censored get posted just fine? Are you sure it was posted? Please, "repost" it.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I can't stand the "fire in a crowded theater" argument. It is way overused, usually in situations that have nothing to do with actions that foreseeably lead to grievous injury.

As for calling a politician a "whore," actually you can. The politician would have a very difficult time arguing that you meant that she was a prostitute, when "whore" is a common term for politicians who sell out to special interests. No reasonable listener would interpret that slur as a serious assertion that the politician was a sex-worker.

  72. Youth Commission?

    ReplyDelete
  73. hook firmly inserted in J.Ps mouth.

    They're trolling and you bit.

    he he!

    jerks.

    ReplyDelete
  74. What, do you have something against the youth commission?

    ReplyDelete
  75. I never saw your post in question. I did not intentionally delete it. There is no way I deleted it 6 times.

If I did delete it then I am sorry (sort of). I don't have that much sympathy for anonymous flamers.

There are literally thousands and thousands of anonymous comments on this blog, your didn't really stand out to me.

I see you have started a blog, neat! But don't use your real name behind it? Weak.

Kevin has embedded your blog updates in our left hand column. Congratulations. You can now gravy train the audience I spent 5 years building.

    Have fun.

    ReplyDelete
  76. The Leucadia blog was the first to report on the Kranz assualt videos.

It was the only place Harry Ehleir's complaint was reported (he sure got suckered).

The LB was the first place to announce that Encinitas Goofbuster had a youtube channel that covered all of Barth's problems.

JP, your doing a terrible job.

    ReplyDelete
  77. If perhaps there was a technology problem (although I find this a tenuous response considering many other people have recently claimed censorship and all coincidently seem to be Dalager/Gaspar Supporters), than I apologize for accusing the Leucadian of Censorship. Thank you for the Blog Recognition on your site.

I would like to note, that my blog is under my own full real name, the email associated with it is marow.d@gmail.com, and that when asked my full name (Derrik Marow) I gave it without hesitation, and that I have always posted under my real full name on this blog (and resent the claim that I am an 'anonymous flamer'). Baloo is a popular nickname for me among my friends due to my apparent resemblance of the bear in the Jungle book.

I would also like to know what the anonymous poster meant by their post about the youth commission.....

    ReplyDelete
  78. W.C. understood. I did not do a good job of articulating my point. Put it this way.. If you carry a sign that says Obama is Hitler and wave it in peoples faces who dont want you there. Shit will happen like getting your sign broken or getting flipped off. Baloo I think you may have ADD or OCD. LL

    ReplyDelete
  79. LL I may be ADD/OCD, but at least I'm not fragrantly rude

    ReplyDelete
  80. Youth Commission?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Yes, I am a Commissioner. Is that a problem? Do you have a comment regarding the youth commission, or are you simply noting its existence?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Maybe Gaspar will be okay. But since she's a transplant, and backed by certain groups, I don't think she cares if our "Flower Capital" is converted to "Tract Housing Capital."

    ReplyDelete
  83. "But since she's a transplant,"

She's not only a transplant, she loves Transplants!!! Have you seen the size of those plastic inserts. She looks like ice cream cones when she lays on her back at the beach.

Derrik Marow - stay the frick off the blog. Someone should tell your parents.

Better use of your time would be to read some interesting books or do something interesting to make you more interesting. Your comments are incredibly boring!!!!

If Baloo was that boring, Disney would have shit canned him long ago. Go cry to your parent and tell them to monitor your web time and spend some attention on your which will hopefully make you more interesting. Geeze.

I fear Gaspers kids will end up that screwed up.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I am going to make a t-shirt that reads BLAME KEVIN.

    ReplyDelete
  85. To 9:40 -

I think you're very mature for depicting me as a unruly emotionally unstable 5 year old. You should feel really proud of yourself, it looks great when you tell politically active youth that are trying to engage in the political discussion to "go cry to their parents."

Let me tell you, if there is a way to make sure people like Meg Whitman and Kristin Gaspar get elected by "buying elections" as so many people here have stated, it is to tell the politically active youth they are stupid and should go away; it will make them stop questioning things and make them vote for the person with the prettiest signs. Congratulations moron, you are single-handedly responsible for the downfall of the american political system.

You are frankly very stupid. Also, try using your name and owning up to one of your comments!

Your comments are baseless and stupid. It is one thing to call me ADD or OCD, or say I'm just a general crazy person, but I can see you like the high road:
You would rather just assume everything I say is wrong because I'm young......

I notice you say I am incredibly boring, yet you don't have any reasons why my incredibly boring arguments are false.......

    ReplyDelete
  86. Perhaps it is time to revisit having a youth commission.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I've watched the minority group back two losers in trying to get control; Kranz & Collier. Rachelle Collier got caught in a bold faced lie days before the election regarding needle exchange program which sunk her campaign. In Tony Kranz's case this list is long. In April he was cited for "vandalism" according to the police report. Then he lists an illegal contribution on his report and when called on it goes back and amends the report so as to erase it. As if you can put the ring back in the bell. When he ran for office previously in Minnesota he was fined for campaign violations then.

Houlihan and Barth deserve what they got since they keep backing lame horses.

    ReplyDelete
  88. again to the 10:59 anonymous poster, I notice you're to blinded by your own stupidity to explain why anything I say is wrong. Who is more childish, the member of the youth commission, or the idiot who gets bested by the member of the youth commission (that's you in case you couldn't notice bud).

and you're still hiding in anonymous posts.....

    ReplyDelete
  89. Derrik,

Have you reposted the comment you've not been able to get up yet? If you want to publish a front blog post, formulate it and send it over.

I'd be psyched to post your stuff.

Go back in the archives to see how we've toyed with moderating the comments. Its a pain in the rear and some people don't distinguish moderating and censorship. There are times that JP and I don't even read comments. A lot of the comments are just trolls. Especially the anon ones.

If you hadn't posted your name I would have assumed the same for your comments.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Oh, and I've got an idea for an issue the youth commission might consider taking up. If you email us I'll run it by you. Its a good one.

    ReplyDelete
  91. FYI,

Derrik has full control of his own blog and can post his responses there and they will show up on the Leucadia Blog front page in the upper left.

JP and I have no idea what he's talking about regarding his comments being deleted.

  92. el Tocayo says,

    Hey Derrick,

Accusing someone of single-handedly causing the downfall of American political system demonstrates a lack of maturity on your part. I mean really, one person in Encinitas is to blame for the "downfall" of politics in America? Stop embarrassing yourself and your parents.

    ReplyDelete
  93. el Tocayo says,

"fragrantly rude" That's a good one being rude with odor. Really gol (guffawed out loud)when I read that.

Derrick you're showing your age again.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Dear Derek: If you are truly on the Youth Commission then you are held to a bit higher standard than others. I hope you appreciate that. I am a Parks and Recreation Commissioner and I am aware that what I say has consequences because of that position. You have every right to have your own blog, but please don't make your Commission look bad by engaging in name calling etc. I have been reading this blog for many years and always post my name. I am careful, most of the time, to attempt to be constructive. As a Commissioner, I believe that we have an obligation to not "trash" someone unless we have proof of the allegations. For example, I personally heard, the man call Teresa a "whore". I did not know he was a Rotarian at the time, but as soon as I found out I called and e-mailed Rotary International. So, far not a peep from them, The youth are our future. Please post responsibly, as I am sure you will. Thank you. Happy you are volunteering your time to the City. Our youth are important.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Hey kid your blog sucks and you sound like a babbling pothead. Stop being a victim and organize your thoughts before typing.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Give the kid a chance to collect himself. He can't even vote but he cares. Help him. He has a lot of facts wrong and ideas weakly thought out, but there is a sincerity behind it. So don't be dick to him.

    ReplyDelete
  97. It's one thing to say give the kid a chance, it is quite another to let him spew hatred and ignorance. If he is on the Youth Commission I am going to suggest that he be removed, as he doesn't even care about our City. What does the Youth Commission do anyway? Is it another waste of taxpayer dollars?

    ReplyDelete
  98. It is time to start reducing the size of Encinitas government, starting with the Youth Commission, which was formed in the late 1990s.
First, the city's Parks and Rec oversees the group of eleven youngsters that meet about once a month, with city employee time expended.
Second, as a governing body, the Youth Commission is given the same weight as some of the other commissions, as evidenced by being one of the members of the General Plan Update Advisory Committee.

  99. What do the Youth Commissioners talk about at their meetings?
Here is a sample from the June 2, 2010 meeting under Commissioner Corner:
...finals were held at La Costa Canyon High School
...Diegueno Middle School wrapping up the school year
...Canyon Crest hold Battle of the Bands
...La Costa Canyon High School scheduled many senior events
...High Tech High wrapping up the school year

    j/k ;)

  103. As far as the charge that I 'lack proper respect' I'm going to assume that is an anonymous blogger that has never actually met me and just wants to defame me.

I Have made a post at my blog about the my beliefs and ideas on the youth commission. I encourage all who defame me and the youth commission to read it.

also, thank you Lorri, the message is well received, I will remember to be more respectful, civil, and polite than others who have commented here.

  106. Derrick,

You'd do well to realize that many anon comments are simply bait and attempts to dissolve the decorum.

Unlike your blog, the Leucadia blog allows anonymous commenting.

  109. We've gone through phases regarding moderating comments (ex: see http://www.theleucadiablog.com/2009/10/to-moderate-or-not.html)

Mostly its a pain in the rear and we don't want to have to read all the comments.

The one thing we've narrowed down to consistently intervening on is impostors. We started doing that mostly because a council member asked us to remove comments of people pretending to be him.

Please don't sign on using someone else's name, nickname, or screen name.

The above comment was removed because they signed off as LB (leucadia blog).

  110. Derek- I applaud you for diving in the big leagues. Once your panties dry, you might learn a little about life. Your boring posts show you have much to learn in life. Go enjoy the world, go enjoy your town. Once you have something worthwhile to offer you will not be lambasted as a boring little shit.

Sorry young turp. You need to post better stuff, or your just wasting our time. Hint- see posts from Lynn B. You are smelling that bad.

  111. The Council should revisit the need for a youth commission. Certainly, the parks and rec department should provide them with correct statistics about the city. The 2000 census shows only about 10.7% of the city population is made up of children from 10-17.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Congrats kid. You made this entire blog about you. The bad part is you have nothing to say.

  115. My statistics are correct, the youth commission is designed to represent ages from of all ages under 19, people 19 and under make up 25.1%. As for the rest of it, I'm going to take the advice of others on hear and not allow myself to be goaded. Besides, we all know there are about 2-3 people who send multiple anonymous posts here to make it look like half of Encinitas is ganging up on people. I'm going to assume the person or two working to discredit me here are probably people who've never met me and just like to whine. Try using your names for once.

  119. Derrik,
Your information is incorrect. Have you even taken the time to read the current M.C. section on the Youth Commission. Did you know that originally 6th graders were on the Commission?

An ordinance from 2009 states the following on the representation on the commission:
    3 reps from grades 7th and 8th
3 reps from high school 9th and
    10th
4 reps from high school grades llth and 12th
one at large rep 14-19 years

Middle school and high school representation on the commission, that's it.

Actually, the youth commission represents less that 10.7% of the city population of 10-17 years old since the 10, 11, and 12 year olds aren't represented on the commission.

Get your facts straight before you argue.

    ReplyDelete
  120. The youth commission is meant to represent the cities youth. This is defined by people 19 and under, that is where the 25% comes in. Yes, I'm aware that the youngest representatives of the youth commission are 7th graders, yet at the same time, the Y.C. is meant to represent youth (and all that that implies). This is the last I'll comment on the issue, because frankly, as with most things on the comment section of this blog: this is getting ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Derrik,

Look up city ordinance 98-04. That's the original start of the Youth Commission.

The concept was 4 students in grades 7-12 that attend one of the schools in the San Dieguito Union High School Distict and 1 6th grade student from either the Encinitas or Cardiff school districts.

Also, appointed by the City Council would be two adults to sit on the Youth Commission. Plus, one adult representative from each of the school districts in the city would be appointed. Finally, the Parks and Rec Commission would appoint one of their Commissioners to the Youth Commission.

Only 5 students with 6 adults on the Youth Commission.

From 1998 to the present the Youth Commission, through ordinance changes, has morphed into more of an Our Gang clubhouse run by the Parks and Rec department.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Anon 5:02. At the present time, there is no Parks and Recreation Commissioner on the Youth Committee. I have no idea when that changed, but I looked at the members of the Youth Commission and found none of the Parks and Recreation Commissoners on it. The Parks and Recreation Commission has the following people on it:
    John Gjata
    Sanford Shapiro
    Doug Long
    Lorri Greene
    Steve Valois
    Doug Goad
    Dennis Lhota
None of these people go to the Youth Commission meetings, unless someone knows something I don't know. The two Commissions have completely different functions. I wonder what gives?

    ReplyDelete
  123. Most YCers are there to pad their college applications not because they have interest in how the city functions.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Get real jobs YC.... don't become a sluff Government Tick.

Enjoy true freedom and don't take the heroin of government hand outs.

Derrik- You better go hiking or surfing for 6 hours and straighten your head out boy. Your talking jibberish.

Since your parents won't I guess we have to talk to you openly.

think about this, while some stupid and poor 18 year old goes to Iraq and kills people and gets killed, our home town geeks (smart geeks because I won't go to fight some meaningless occupation) volunteer for the YC to better their college application to take political science which will then lead to another generation of useless politicians. Break the cycle Derrik- become a doctor, a scientist or an engineer if you love USA. If you hate it become a government worker, politician, or lawyer. Its that simple.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Just as my last comment was the final time I would comment on the statistics thing; this shall be the last time I will comment on the youth commission. I have already explained the merits of the youth commission, it is up on my blog. To the anon at 8:03 - Yes, I obviously care very little about the city and am just on the Y.C. in order to 'pad my college apps' that is why I started my own blog about local city politics........

I love the USA and Encinitas; that is why I am on the Youth Commission, in order to make this a better place by making sure the youth are represented.

Let it be none that no one should ever mention my parents again; I don't speak for them, and they don't speak for me. My parents are good people that have nothing to do with this blog.

Also, I resent the comment that the troops are stupid. It's plain disrespectful.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Yes, before you all point out my spelling mistake, I should have written 'known' instead of 'none'

    ReplyDelete
  127. Derick is smart. He's making contacts for a cake Parks and Rec job where he can retire on full pay at 55.

The only thing he's overlooking is that the pensions will probably cripple city finances before he can get hired, so that job may never be there for him.

    ReplyDelete
  128. el Tocayo says,

Derrik your post on 11/06/10 4:15 p.m. contains an error. The plural possessive of city is city's not cities. Cities refers to multiple cities.

Anon 11/06/10 9:19 p.m. If Derrik is indeed speaking jibberish then the statemnet should read "you're" not "your" You're is a contraction of the two words,"you are" Your means : of or relating to you or yourself or yourselves especially as possessor or possessors , agent or agents , or object or objects of an action .

Each of you should initiate legal action against your English teachers/professors.

  129. Much too much is being made of the Youth Commission and the Parks and Recreation Commission. Both are paper tigers. Neither can make a binding decision, only a recommendation. Same with the Arts and Traffic Commissions. It is only the Planning Commission that has real power with decisions that stand unless appealed to the council.

Nevertheless all appointments to the commissions have been subject to political manipulations. Certain members of the Arts Commission lost their positions after Leucadia Cares sued the city. Planning Commissioner Gene Chapo was slyly removed. Dr. Lorri Greene possibly will lose her seat. Our present council majority has never tolerated dissent.

Baloo will soon be gone from the Youth Commission. So who cares? However, I do believe that he has not arrived at his opinions independently, but has been heavily influenced by his parents. It appears the whole family has drunk the Dalager Kool-Aid.
