Doomed?

Everyone has been asking Dan Dalager why the business is closing.
Dalager said the demographics and economics of Encinitas have changed from a place where agriculture was important and gardening services had their headquarters.

Leucadia blog: Dalager closes shop to hunt squirrels.

  1. No way. Those guys know what the are doing, have good pricing, and are very responsive. I'd say the business is doing well, judging from the traffic I see using the site during the day.

  3. Perhaps we should let them RIP. Everyone has "dirty laundry" Is it really worth it trashing Dan's family too? Just wondering.

  4. What are talking about Dr. Lorri? No one is trashing Dan's family.

Dalager has not kept private about his shop going out of business and he has not declined all the interviews with the press.

The voters were sold on the idea that Dan was a down-to-earth, friendly guy who would bring his business sense with him to the council. Running a family business does have many things could be useful for managing a city. A good financial sense helps when running a successful business and you need to learn how to make decisions in the open and build consensus.

It turns out that Dan's business hadn't been prosperous and that consensus wasn't maintained. It is dangerous for our city to have such an arrogant, yet unaccomplished, man in charge of all of our financial futures. Despite the urban myth Dan is not a great businessman. His family had subsidized his business and when that got cut off he threw in the towel. That wasn't because people stopped mowing their lawns, trimming their hedges, or cutting down trees.

That is why I say, No. Not doomed.

  8. Apparently, that young woman was doomed, as she chose to end her life.

Encinitas is not doomed. Nor are small businesses. I say we can let Dan's family "rest in peace." But he is still a Council Member, and Anon 12:25's post is right on.

Hello, Dr. Lorri. Glad to see you're back posting!

  9. A poster has dalager termed correctly, "arrogant, yet unaccomplished, man in charge of all of our financial futures". This is a guy that has tried to rip off the taxpayers ever since he has been in office. It hard to believe he was reelected.

Dr. Lorri, who is attacking his family by criticizing his performance as a business owner and councilperson. Are you focused on his family? why? Do you have a personal relationship with him?

  10. The Dalager business closed in part because the oldest brother who is in charge of the mothers financial matters chose to raise the rent on the building. Dan and Myron were either unwilling or unable to pay new rent and opted to close up shop. I say in part because Dan in my humble opinion had a knack of being rude and insulting to customers. His mouth seemed to work independent of his common sense.

  11. I will score it 5 not doomed and 0 doomed. I counted dr. lorri's post as a not doomed.

  12. Next topic please.

How about he continuance of the N.Coast 101 tour?

  13. How about a topic on the San Dieguito water District and its shenanigans? Of course, Leucadia is NOT DOOMED, unless we decide it to be doomed. I know Dr. Lorri and I think she is right about separating Dan from his family . They are almost 2 different entities from what I have read. Maybe she didn;t say that, but I think she would have if she hadn't been so tired from her trip to Africa. She told me that the Cheetahs were magnifcant, as well as the Masai people. Perhaps she wold post little on that, even tho thchnically it has nothing to do with Leucadi. Although she did say that thse people fought and stayed together when it came to things affecting their villages. So prhaps it is a little like Enciitas. Sorry, I am all over the board on this post.

  15. Who the hell are you Pat Bauder??

    ReplyDelete
  16. So now you are censoring comments on this blog??
    Wow!
My guess is you're not going to be here very much longer Pat!

  17. Why are so many posts being censored? Censorship is defintely DOOM! PLEASE let us get our thoughts, ideas and feelings out. Even if the bloggers want to trash me, I'd rather have that than ANY form form of censorship. Is there a new blogger rule out there that we don't know about? If so, then let us know. We already get enough censorship from the City. This is a place where we have, so far, been allowed to speak freely. Please keep it that way.

  18. The blog just lost its colorfulness and fun.It has been an entertaining way to blow off steam with others. Censorship is a drag.

  19. Pat, I hope you didn't have your feelings hurt. You are probably a swell guy.

  20. Dump Pat Bauder!!!

  21. I guess Pat can't talk about death along the Rail Roads.

Pat- care for an explaination? Are you related to the women who died or have some special relationship that we should know about?

I know you will remove this comment too.

  22. JP-

What the rules of the Blog. So all of our comments do not get removed?

Looks like your new boy is full of censorship and the blog and free speach in Encinitas will suffer.

  23. Pretty funny JP-

    1. Pick a guy and put a picture representing free speach next to his name. 2. Delete any comment that is not to his liking.

    Classic Joke.

  25. Michelle was a good person & a great mom!
I find it very hard to believe she was suicidal.
We talked to her last week and she showed no signs of depression.
She has a beautiful son JD. which in itself is a lot to live for.
Pat Bauder, how dare you delete my comment just because of my colorful use of English language!
I'm going to ask JP to introduce us, and when he does ya better duck!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'd say JP and especially Pat have some explaining to do.

Pat-Pretty tough start for out of the gate.

The blog is lost some of its esteem by the trigger finger Pat. Is it doomed?

Any worthwhile comments Pat or will you just hit the delete function as the blog administrator?

    ReplyDelete
  27. I deleted the posts.

I didn’t expect to be deleting any posts, but I have uncomfortably discovered that there is some responsibility moderated a blog. Most posters also recognize that there are expectations of them. Just as in most social situations you can’t show up and act obnoxious, take over the conversation, and spew profanity and not expect to be shown the door. What often happens in virtual meeting halls like this is that the decorum deteriorates at some point and it sparks a virtual discussion about mutual expectations.

I don’t believe JP has ever spelled out expectations or have posters lay out what they wanted the ground rules to be. I do remember when one poster went so far off the deep end that she was almost voted off the island. Not long after that JP changed the comment rules and required you to sign in to post responses.

The first comment I deleted was a comment that was from someone who decided to post the same off topic comment under several topics. She reformulated the comment and posted again. I did not think the comment was coherent or relevant, but I left it there and someone followed it with a very callous and needless comment. I left that there too. Jon P followed up later with a very emotional and profanity filled comment. That was bringing on a melt down so I deleted the series of off topic posts with the intention to remind bloggers if they have a topic that they would like discussed that they can send JP an email with a thought out letter that we can post up. The trash can topic is a great example.

In the future I will let the regular posters guide us on what crosses the line when it comes to things such as off topic comments or when to interject to maintain decorum. The one exception is profanity. Excessive profanity will be deleted.

Hopefully, this is likely to come up again.

  29. With all due respect Pat, this is one of the few places left where we can actually vent ALL of our frustrations, both as citizens of this community, and human beings. We have seen enough in our own society to know that this actualy helpful. Instead of taking a gun and blowing heads off of kids it really is better to vent. Sometime profanity helps as well.

I don't know a moderator's world, but I have seen enough blogger sites to know that certain George Carlin words are acceptable. I would be happy to show you the psychological literature on this. Most people on this blog know that if they say something too controversial, as I have done many times, they might get trashed. So what? I am a big girl, well older anyway, and can take it or I wouldn't post in the first place. Unless there is a written code you have to follow, perhaps you could let us "call it as it is" and let the bloggers be the judge.

P.S. I AM NOT SLEEPING WITH DAN DALAGHER. This is a test to see if I get voted off the Island.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I am certain JP is not licensed to provide psychological services. Pat?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yo Pat! Is free speech too much for you to stomach? Are "dirty" words too much for your sensitive upbringing to accomodate?

Or do you just get off playing big brother?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Dr. Lorri, We may have vastly different world views but I really do appreciate your refreshing candor and passion. I am also impressed with your self restraint in regards to potential amorous temptations.ie Danny boy

    ReplyDelete
  33. well Dr. Lorri if not you, who? Why else would he be so angry and rude all the time? Guilt?

I agree, lets cut the profanity, after all it would offend our Leucadia sensibilities and perhaps make the RSPB quit drinking.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Uh oh, Pat is already shining up his Jack Boots. I gotta remember the profanity thing, it gots me in hots water before.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'll drink to that.

  36. Closing down Dalaghers was a tough thing for Dan,probably financial, maybe something like selling the building , who knows.Dan has been less than open minded on the council, in lock step with Stocks and Bond flying the city by the seat of their pants, financially irresponsible and unreasonable to any outside thought, clearly a lack of leadership or decision making experence one and all.We must vote them gone or else. Remember Encinitas is a city with an overhead cost of $100,000.00 a day for what?

    ReplyDelete
  37. bloggers...
Please remember, if you have a topic you would like discussed you can send JP an email with a thought out letter.
This blog is not a forum for open discussion.

    ReplyDelete
  38. J.P. Are yu sure Pat is not one of our very own Council members? No open discussion. Sounds familiar-sort of like a City Council meeting.

    ReplyDelete
  39. He is just trying to do some blog house keeping by keeping comments related to the post. The vast majority of blogs do this. I don't bother because I think it's too much effort and makes people mad.

    ReplyDelete
  40. In social conversations, going off topic is a natural progression in the casual exchange of ideas. I fail to see how asking about an dramatic accident in Leucadia, is deemed so "off topic" as to be censored. I asked about the accident because I was worried it might be someone I know, and there hadn't been any news in the paper. As I see it, this blog should serve several purposes, and sharing local news, tragic or otherwise, is one of them.

    ReplyDelete
  41. So you would rather have us be mad at Pat?

    ReplyDelete
  42. WOW!

  44. Pat -

Good topics. Bad philosophy regarding "not an open dicsussion". Of course it is!

Most people stay on topic, but who cares if they don't. Light up and relax. You are appearing to be a "control freak". The blog may not be as perfect as you'd like it, but it is working well. Your heavy handed censorhip will surely backfire. Lighten up, kick back and enjoy the comments and the 4th. Celebrate our Freedom of Speach in this great land of ours!

  45. Thanks Pat. Keep the civility in this blog. That's the problem with anonymity. People start acting like junior highschoolers.

  46. Many people have tuned out of blogcadia because the sour posts of a few disturbed and overbearing bloggers turned them off. Those posters bring the whole blog down.

Go back to requiring signing in for commenting. I don't want to hear her whine anymore. Let me guess what she is going to say. If you don’t like it then leave? Exactly. Go back to signing in.

  47. YEAH BABY!

    Lynn is back!

    Anon 10:56 10:41 10:20 10:02 is pure Lynn.

Don't bother telling Lynn she is out of line. She doesn't comply with law enforcement so there is no way she is going to comply with any sort of vague request to maintain.

Web rage! Web rage! Web rage! Web rage! Web rage!

  48. So poster 12:18 you decided to post as anonymous. That's really telling us. Why don't you sign in under your real name? I personally get enjoyment out of this contentious blog, and in the meantime, I also learn something. What a concept. Learn and enjoy. So let me parrot you by saying "don't open the blog and don't read it!".
