This blog continues it's downward spiral. Please make sure you incorporate the statue into the next 3 new topics please, and make sure you find more new hilarious gay cropped photos to surround the surfer statue. This is getting old.

Spin=this was suppose to be a kook (a.k.a. novice) surfer.
I think Logan wanted to highlight the problems with this statue without actually having to say that the statue is lame. He did a good job. Wouldn't it have been better for Logan to have avoided mentioning the bad behavior of an isolated set of bloggers than to draw attention to them during gay pride weekend?
Art is controversial. As many of you hate it there are those who love it.
If enough of you hate it, it can be removed from public property like the jail part is Carlsbad was. All it takes is a referendum. Think you losers can do that?
I doubt that RSPB, Dr Lorri and Gil have the ability to get anything done except bitch and give other blogger misdirection and falsehoods.
Why do people admit public art is controversial and then tell you to go to hell and shut up if you don't like it?
The irony is that the people who commissioned this statue love this blog when it is bashing their enemies. Kind of sucks when the tables are turned eh? Now you know how the city council feels.
Before the end of 1999 there wasn't an arts commission, no city backed public art, and no taxpayers' money spent. Since 2000, the city councils have spent over (approximately) $600,000 in taxpayer money to fund the public arts machine.
There's nothing wrong with private art displays, but when the government, especially local city councils get involved, all reasoning with them goes out the window.
In seven short years the council's path has been turned away from infrastrure to spending more money on these art projects.
If you don't like government in public art, take away their power.
I tried to go mess with that thing, but they have it lite up like a latern and a rent a cop sitting there all night. He even said he thought the thing was lame! Let's show up to the unsheathing tomorrow at 11:00 tomorrow to tell them to take it down.
Its funny how some "posts" stay up here while others do not. I assumed that this was an open (fair) forum but evidently I was wrong. It would seem that if I criticize the statue my comment is avaiable for the public, but if I defend this artist (which represents everybody who calls themselves an artist) then it magically disappears.... nice.
STORY ON CH.8 TONIGHT AT 5PM AND 6:30PM ABOUT SURFER REACTION TO CARDIFF STATUE. I'm a photographer for Ch. 8 and some of the pictures posted on this site of the statue are from video I shot yesterday at the unveiling. It aired a couple times yesterday and we are working on a follow up today taking the angle of dissatisfied surfers. Check it out and it will be available on www.cbs8.com after it airs as well.

ReplyDeleteJP's life is structured around SURFING. You know, the surf culture? The culture that was suppose to be celebrated in the statue.
This is only one of JP's blogs. The rest are surfing related and it is notable that there was not one "I like the statue" post on his surf blogs.
The statue resonates and is very symbolic. It represents the demise of the core structures of encinitas surfer's lives.
If you want other topics posted you should send things for JP to post, otherwise I hope JP continues to make me laugh until my back hurts.
I also hope they don't move the statue. It is going to provide a seriously funny venue for surfer's comedy pranks.
