North Coast Highway101 Streetscape Events Schedule
The City of Encinitas has scheduled the following events to assist in educating and informing the public of traffic calming, pedestrian safety & walkability concepts as well as the project status.
Educational Session Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009; 9am - 1:30pm; Banquet Room, Encinitas Community & Senior Center
Informational Open House – Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009; 4pm – 7:30 pm; Community Room, Encinitas Public Library
Workshop #4 – Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009; 9 am – 12 noon; Banquet Room, Encinitas Community & Senior Center
Oct. 3rd Educational Session will have three lecture components followed by an open house component to give the public an opportunity to review project plans and ask direct project questions.
Introduction: 9:00 – 9:15 am Presentations: 9:15 – 11:30 am - 1) Pedestrian Safety/Walkability Design Criteria, 9:15 – 9:45 am 2) Roundabouts "101"; general concept designs/theories re: roundabouts, 10:00 – 10:30 am 3) Case History Example - Birdrock/La Jolla, 10:45 – 11:30 am
Informational Open House: 11:30 am – 1:30 pm As scheduled we anticipate the talks for Items 1 & 2 (above) to be approx. 30 min. and item 3 (above) approx. 45 min. Then the open house event could run for about 2 hours -11:30 – 1:30 pm.
Oct. 8th Informational Open House #2. The educational session (described above) will compliment another informational open house planned for Thursday 10/8/09 4pm - 7:30pm and Workshop #4
Oct. 10th The Formal Workshop #4 planned for Saturday, 10/10/09 9:00 a.m. - 12 noon. A new design alternative (#5) will be presented to compare with the previously design alternative #4.
The above schedule and project summary will be available at the City’s Planning Department and at the Leucadia 101 office (386 N. Coast Hwy 101). Amen- Go to the meeting and support the option that will slow cars down from the existing 50 mph, provide needed safe bike lanes, provide suffiently wide walkways for our downtown area, needed parking and provide areas so we can provide nice tall canopy trees for the cooridor.
ReplyDeleteAll all of the above priorities are important. what is less important is the existing conditions of being auxilary lanes for Interstate 5. Cut the unnneeded extra northbound lane, and install roundabouts. That will make Leucadia funky in a good way and a much more peaceful and nice place to live.

I've gone to the meetings and will attend these also. I support what Anon 10.16 has stated providing where's only 3 roundabouts. Let's get a plan ironed out and the trees in the ground, we read the letter Fred posted from NCTD the streetscape is our only chance at planting trees.

ReplyDeleteWhats wrong with the way it is? Isn't it the reason you moved here in the first place? If you don't like funky Leucadia move to some place with single lanes and roundabouts. Leucadia's 1o1 is a bunch of run down shacks. Those owners that want it fixed up pay their own way, not like the wannabe socialist elite that cry for the rest of us to pay for their pie in the sky pot induced dream plan abetted with help from city staff hell bent spending our city into bankruptcy. Or maybe those pushing this don't have a job, don't work, get some form of welfare, either from the government or family and have too much time on their hands. Give it up, Leucadia will be worse if it get "fixed" the way these transplants want it.

Anon. 753 does have a point. Didn't people move to Leucadia for the funky attitude of the community? Why would we want to change it and make room for the people who want McMansions? We have seen what yuppiefication has done to other communities. Just look at Carlsbad. I like Leucadia as it is and 753 echos my sentiments exactly.

There's enough traffic and beach overcrowding already. Still haven't heard a word about fixing the flooding problem... Oh, yeah, they already "fixed" that - nice job, City - NOT!

Hell no. I moved here for the ocean and all associated activities. All the neighborhoods have awesome huge trees, plus original funky architecture. That street is the reason why we don't have many successful businesses that I would spend money buying things I need. Now I have to get in my car and drive to a decent shop. Bullshit. I love Leucadia. You move. I like to improve things that are negative and aren't working. Our mainstreet is not working. It sucks. Its time to address the thorn in Leucadia and let the area become the Gem that we all know is the true Leucadia.
I guess some renters may want to keep Leucadia crappy so they can keep lower rents and still be near the ocean. Understandable. With that attitude you might want to move to Oxnard. They have a ways to go. At a minimum move to Oceanside.
You can take your crappy attitude and your thinking your a local and move to Vista, Oceanside or Oxnard. You will fit in better with your kind of attitude.
Support the streetscape and support a peaceful beautiful Leucadia and Encinitas.
Support a beautiful peaceful original leucadia. Not a crappy unsafe generically ugly dusty bowl Junky Funky Leucadia. All you need to do is look at the neighborhood surround the mainstreet. They all have awesome original architecture, art and landscaping. Why would we want a shit bowl as a mainstreet in our community. Why shouldn’t our mainstreet have the same high quality original awesome funkiness as the surrounding neighbors?

All you need to do is look at the neighborhood surround the mainstreet. They all have awesome original architecture, art and landscaping.
We aint getting more of that. We be getting Moonlight Lofts and Pacific Station which has almost no landscaping. That is why they need the city to add some green space.

ReplyDeleteI've an attitude because just a few that stand to profit with the City spending 20 to 40 million dollars on fixing up 1o1 seem to have an "in" with City staff hell-bent on blowing our hard earned tax dollars. Low life carpetbaggers that own commercial properties and people that never worked want us, real working people to foot the bill for their Dreamscape 101.
And I have lived here before you could find California on a map, let alone Encinitas.
Luddite- Vulcan is part of the Hwy 101 cooridor.... looks at Neptune and any street west of Hwy 101. Look at any street east of vulcan. The neighborhoods are awesome.

Some have the attitude that they like a shity downtown area as not to attrack any more people. The problem with that attitude is we have a crappy ugly unsafe downtown area that many have to cross on their way to the beach which is the real reason we all live here.

I am saying get rid of the pig completely and replace it with a natural gem. No need for Leucadia to put lip stick on any thing. Its a natural beauty which is the best type of beuaty.

This is what happens when kids are indoctrinated in government schools. They grow up FEELING they have a right to anything they want without working for it. Someone else will pay for it, someone who works.

I think the Leucadia Streetscape will benefit all in Encinitas, but the ones that benefit the most are the Leucadia neighborhoods within walking distance of the downtown area. I live on Eolus and I consider the streetscape extremely important and I know it will raise the value of my property and my quality of life.
I clearly don't understand your position. But oh well. I understand we will always disagree.
See you at the workshops. Remember. Crap is bad. Support the streetscape. Trees are good, nice landscaping is good, safe walkways are good, safe bikelanes are good, parking is good, roundabouts are good. Its all good.

Well. As you've seen through previous post, Leucadia has paid huge taxes without any improvements in their home town.
The point of the streetscape costing Encinitas tax payer more money is a joke.
The streetscape will actually make way more money for the City than they know.

Higher property values, higher retail sales, Higher rents along the Hw 101 corridor..... equals... higher quality of life for Encinitas. Especially Leucadians.s I for one support trees, slower speeds, and a beautiful Leucadia!

ReplyDeleteYes it does. Sadly NCTD's dust will probably remain. But all of the dirt medians and dirt trails with no sidewalks will be planted and landscaped. That means a lot less scorched paradise.

I'd venture to say we are getting more of that. Including: #1. One Thousand more trees . #2. Peltz' research into Leucadia's past, including the same lampposts that were here in the last century.

You're confusing the Specific Plan with the Streetscape. The former involves private property. The Streetscape only concerns public property. Agreed however that since the adoption of density bonuses, the Specific Plan needs to adjust to appropriate developments that have proper parking, mass and bulk issues, etc.. Those meetings are coming soon. Be there if you actually care.

#1. 2 miles of businesses paying their taxes for 23 years to the city of Encinitas certainly was hard earned. But you would suffer 101 and surrounding neighborhoods not getting improvements when it's finally their turn? The entire city profits from a Streetscape in perpetuity, not some few ner' do wells as you suggest. Why can't you admit that? Why don't you want that? Doubtful we'll get a real answer, just someone grinding an axe with a silent agenda.
