It would be nice if this little common area was grassy instead of asphalt, it's actually quite the hangout during the sunset.
I like the new succulents they planted in the cobblestone planters.
The springtime south swells have been restocking Beacons with lots of sand.
Also, re: Beacon's trail access improvements, there has been a change to the scheduling of the Beacon’s beach access project. The City’s legal counsel has advised us that the EIR will need to be recirculated, such that we are now looking at a probable hearing date of July 16
Fark! Where did all the cobblestones go?!?! Don't worry folks, my cobblestone lobby is working hard at getting some stones that are almost, but not entirely unlike cobbles dumped back on the beach!

ReplyDeleteEventually it all washes down to Moonlight and into the ocean where a lot of us surf and swim. Don't forget your young kids or grand kids that will be swimming this summer. The number one pollutant in the ocean and on the sand around here is dog feces, so the next time you see some scumbag lowlife not picking up after their dog, tell them to be responsible or better yet, take their picture and lets put it on this blog.

Not to be enviro guy but we should really use more Eco friendly materials for our beach parking lots.

In 1984, Bob, along with many others, invested enormous time and energy into a battle to incorporate the communities of Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Leucadia, Olevenhein, Old Encinitas and New Encinitas. They formed the Northern San Dieguito Independence Movement to break away from the stranglehold of San Diego County politicians and developers. This gave citizens of these communities more input into their own fates. In 1986, dream of incorporation came true. The citizens of these areas voted YES in favor of citihood.
ReplyDeleteIronically, when the City of Encinitas celebrated its twentieth birthday, Bob Bonde was not honored by the City Council. On May 3, 2009, at the home of the Minsters, the City of Encinitas again chose not to honor this citizen. County Supervisor Pam Slater-Price attended with a proclamation declaring May 3 Bob Bonde Day. However, not one council member from the City of Encinitas bothered to attend. In fact, Cardiff-by-the-Sea President Barbara Cobb was absent, as was the Downtown Encinitas Merchants Association, also known as DEMA. Perhaps they weren't invited? Councilwoman Teresa Barth came as a private citizen. She made a point of saying she was not there representing the City of Encinitas.
A representative of San Diego County, from which the city of Encinitas was carved in 1986, shows up with a proclamation, while our own City leaders did nothing. Is something wrong with this picture? Perhaps the citizens should elect members to the Encinitas City Council who care about our history and the people who made it.

ReplyDeleteThere was a good write up in the Coast News about Bob Bonde being honored by the County proclamation, to which our City was too "miserly in spirit" to pitch in.
Teresa Barth was kind to attend, and could have done so without the redundant disclaimer that she does not represent Council. She does represent the people who voted for her, whether she has Council consensus, or not.
Politics in Encinitas can be exceedingly petty.
I think the parking lot looks nice. The bluff cannot support restrooms. If homeowners and businesses near Beacons wanted to, perhaps they could donate the funds for a porta potty, and the City would allow it to be placed somewhere at the top of Beacons? Otherwise this is rather a dead issue, except for one poster seemingly obsessed with feces.
I don't have a dog. A wall for Beacons would not be approved by the Coastal Commission for many reasons. We don't need more DIRT dumped on the beaches in Leucadia.
the reason no one wants bathrooms is that they are happy urinating and deficating in public in front of the real locals homes. If you live on neptune you would know how bad this and the public drug use around beacons is. Fact is most people visiting beacons are just visitors, from inland- encinitas or olivenhain. if you crossed the tracks to get here respect the place!

All the bigger winter swell i watched you kooks stand up there all morning with your starbucks to scared to go out in weak ass overhead leucadia surf. If your east of vulcan go ride you weekend log down the river or just catch waves with a boat, takes just as much talent as standing in the parking lot
uh weʻve only had 2 small southʻs and they were both mixed in with wnw so that really does not explain the sand. The sand is the result of getting no significant waves this winter and the periodic dumping of additional sand brought in by the city. Also from the transplantation southward from ponto and the lagoon.
