"ENCINITAS 101"

Music and lyrics by Don Swanson

Verse 1

100 miles south from the smog in L.A. ...

20 miles north of San Diego Bay ...

There’s a town on the coast that’s got all you need ...

And famous flowers for all the world to see ...

Historic places to go to, lots of things to do ...

Encinitas is the best town ... for me and you.

Chorus

Encinitas is the town for me ...

there's nowhere else that I’d rather be

The best climate, ocean views and the Moonlight sand

There’s just no better place ... in all the land

Verse 2

You can get here by car, train, bus or boat ...

You’re welcome, every day, to the beautiful coast ...

You never knew that your paradise could be so near ...

There’s nothing more to get that you can’t get here ...

If it’s surfin’ or dining ... one thing is true ...

Encinitas is the best town ... for me and you.

Chorus

Encinitas is the town for me ...

there's nowhere else that I’d rather be

The best climate, ocean views and the Moonlight sand

There’s just no better place ... in all the land

Verse 3

There’s nothin’ like a cruise on Mainstreet 101 ...

All your stress and worries just come undone ...

When the golden sun goes down, and it turns to night ...

All the people in town, will always treat you right ...

With so much to offer ... you’ll never be blue ...

Encinitas is the best town ... for me and you

ENCINITAS: City gets its own song

  1. Could you get an lamer lyrics?

thats about as dumb as Dan Dalager voting in favor of the 15% salary increase for all City employees and the huge pension increase for himself and everyone else at the City last year. That dumb ass is voting to bankrupt our City.

What lame brains. Maybe someone could make a song about all the dumb ass decisions from Dan Dalager. Some lines could be, the great squirrel hunter, the best pot smoker, votes for pension and wage increases every chance he gets, I remember when, lets change everything to Christmas, encinitas should build a regional sports complex, we've talked about this long enough but that reminds me of the time when..... running a business is too difficult lets all just free ride on the government tit. What a great local leader we have with Dan Dalager.

  2. Is it illegal for a Councilman to take a $100,000 home loan from a developer and not declare the loan?

  3. Probably not but it would sure be interesting. Who has the $100,000 loan and on what property are you talking about?

  11. I would love to hear what Nathan Welden, (the guy who sings at The Farmer's Market and sounds a wee bit like James Taylor), could do if he dicded to write a song about Encinitas.

I think the city should have a song writing contest...it would be more entertaining than the American Idol auditions.

In the meantime, I shall write a song about Leucadia, that is, if I can squeeze the phrase "diaphanous gowns" in there.

Now, now, now, be nice to these musicans who recorded this song. At least they didn't title it, "Encinitas Rocks".

Rider Calls Pension Projections into Question
Rider Calls Pension Projections into Question

Actuaries perhaps biggest crooks in America, by Richard Rider.

RIDER COMMENT: One seldom understood part of the systemic “defined benefit” pension scandal now crushing most state and local governments is the rampant dishonesty of the pension actuaries. This applies to both in-house government actuaries and the “hired guns” from the outside which supposedly are providing objective information.

The adage to remember is “follow the money.”

The government actuaries’ conflict of interest is obvious – they get the same pensions that they oversee. Unrealistically optimistic actuarial assumptions result in them getting higher pensions and paying less into the pension fund as employees.

Less obvious is the huge conflict of interest of outside actuary consultants. To quote another trite but true cliché, “He who pays the piper, calls the tune.” Such consultants are usually hired by senior government staffers who want their pensions as high as possible. The consultants who get such contracts fully understand that they are expected to provide Pollyannish analysis to justify increasing pensions while underfunding the pension funds.

Stated differently – If an actuarial consultant does indeed provide accurate, objective, cautionary advice on pensions, it is unlikely that they will be retained as a consultant, or indeed that they will ever win another government consulting contract. Over time, the most dishonest actuaries win most of the government pension contracts.

And I’m talking about the top actuarial firms in the nation. This is quite similar to the accounting dishonesty that brought down Author Anderson and other respected accounting firms. But in the arcane world of pension accounting, the level of dishonesty is harder to detect than regular corporate accounting, and hence more widespread.

One dissident actuary, John Bury, has been pointing out this industrywide conflict of interest – and the magnitude of the consequences. Consider this latest article from this fellow concerning the “Soprano” pensions and healthcare of New Jersey employees.

  20. Do you wonder why our Cities and state is broke.

    Read the below article-

After officially retiring, Jarman will stay on as interim chief for another 60 to 90 days as the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department searches for a new chief.
During that time, her pay will remain the same at $165,000 annually. She will also receive a pension of about $10,300 a month, or about $123,600 a year, according to the city's employee retirement system.

She is among 70 to 80 veteran firefighters who are who are expected to retire by June 30 to avoid the terms of their latest two-year contract.

  22. She's not a doctor or President of the USA……she's a fire chief.

After 20 years of retirement at the ripe old age of 73 she will have earned over 2,500,000 in retirement. She's more likely to live to 83 in which the total will be closer to $4,000,000.

How is your retirement doing? Do you have the ability to save $4,000,000 for your retirement? What has your employer or your City government given you for being a good citizen?

If you have a high school diploma and are lucky enough to land a job on the government tit, you don't need to perform; you just need to keep your heart ticking. Walla, you’re a millionaire….

This country is the epitome of complacency.... and by “this country” I mean the dumb ass voting public

F)(*& this country’s politicians are soooo crooked and the public is too dumb to recognize it. Its time to sit back and watch it all fall apart and enjoy the show!!

    Let the games begin,

  23. The ETA is on fire!

There will be no hall park although the politicians at the time were paid off by the organized north county sports leagues.

The organized sports leagues must be pissed. All the tax money needs to go to the employee union pensions. There is no more tax dollars for stupid things like community parks or landscaping.

Sorry folks your tax dollars are for supporting the slugs at City Hall and nothing more.

    Nice report ETA.

  24. Well. I don't know what all this talk is about money or lack of funding...

Our glass is overflowing. We can afford everything. A $100,000,000regional sports park, three $5,000,000 Fire McMansions, and a 15% raise and huge pension increases for every employee and councilmember at City Hall.

Let’s just ask Barratt to build some more of those big fancy houses... that will get us the dough.

Great Job everyone! We are flowing in MONEY! Encinitas Rocks!!!
