Although I wish to thank JP for highlighting local businesses in these tuff times, the choice of this business first has me confussed, although I wish them well and hope they thrive. The owner of this business has energetically thrown rocks on the wagon of positive change. The petition that he authored to attempt to derail the streetscape states many untruths and he has gone to businesses and states that all the trees are to be cut down, eminent domain will seize private property, beach access will be limited, business access will be blocked for two years, Leucadia Blvd will stop at the tracks and more. Offering these falicies to support an opinion and going door to door to scare people with these ideas that are not part of the streetscape has caused harm and confussion to a already difficult public process. At the time of this post, the owner of this establishment still supports this misinformation tactic. I do not feel that causing confussion and offering untruths to support his opinion is benificial to the process of creating a design that will benifit our community now and in our future. I do wish his family business prospers. They are a worthy addition to our community.

SAN DIEGO:: Workers hired by the city of San Diego after July 1 will receive less retirement benefits than current municipal employees under an ordinance the City Council approved yesterday.
The City Council unanimously amended the Municipal Code to reflect the terms of an agreement Mayor Jerry Sanders reached in July with labor unions that represent non-safety employees. Firefighters, police officers and lifeguards are exempt from the deal.
Under the arrangement, the city will contribute about half of what it currently does toward an employee's pension, retiree health care and 401(k)-style fund. The city now contributes more than 16 percent of a worker's annual salary toward retirement. For future hires, it will contribute around 8.7 percent.
As new hires replace existing workers, the revamped benefits plan could eventually save the city as much as $22.8 million a year. –H.G.
Being against roundabouts is not the same as being against the streetscape. This is America people have a right to disagree. Fear and hatred are the path to the dark side and it also stifles open dialogue that closes the ignorance loop.

Uh, not necessarily. And no, I don't condone or make it a habit to consume CAFO meat.
Bison are perfectly adapted to the grass plains of North America, and when properly rotated and managed, are in perfect balance with the ecosystem without much additional energy input. Numerous animal breeds (sheep, goats, cattle, bison, deer, elk, caribou, antelope, and many others) can thrive on lands that aren't arable (and humans can't digest grass, twigs, bark, and browse). Read Joel Salatin's writing to find out more about polyculture, minimal energy transfer in food production, and biodynamic (beyond organic) farming.
How come all those millions of bison that used to roam the plains (far more than the cattle numbers we have now, free range or CAFO) didn't ruin the environment back then with all their expelled methane farts, huh? Actually, the methane issue of more a result of unnaturally feeding cattle grain in CAFOs, not from naturally pasturing cattle and bison. Sing along now, "home, home on the range, where the deer and the antelope play..."

It's a *myth* that veggie burgers and other fake foods are easier on the environment than properly raised real foods (that we evolved to eat, I might add).
Crop planting, as it is commonly practiced (industrially), particularly monoculture, is very destructive to the environment and uses massive amounts of imported energy and resource input. Tilling disrupts the delicate fertility of the soil, pulls the nutrients out without replenishing them fully (NPK), contributes greatly to soil erosion and soil loss (the "dirty 30s" dust-bowl storms, which sent *hundreds of millions of tons of fertile topsoil out into the air over the Eastern US and Atlantic Ocean, was caused by deliberately killing off the bison to removed the native food source and tearing up the ancient sod and planting wheat for speculation - the damage to the Plains continues, btw). The massive ancient underground aquifer of the Great Plains is in danger of going dry due to intensive crop planting.
Furthermore, tilling the soil kills numerous creatures of various sizes and reduces native wildlife habitat and breeding grounds, which is a major factor for endangering wildlife species.
Don't forget all the hapless wildlife caught in the combines - small rodents, rabbits & hares, foxes, deer, etc., ...life is taken throughout nature and it doesn't stop when crops are planted, so there's no such thing as a death-free lunch.
We have heard your fear of roundabouts over and over and I completely understand your position.
Someday soon, I will explain what yield means and you will no longer be afraid of roundabouts. You can pay me what you like for eliminating your life fear.

I can assure you I am not Lynn. A majority in Cardiff dislikes the roundabout on Santa Fe and doesn't want 4 more in the ½ mile stretch from Rubenstein to Regal Road. This roundabout is dangerous with poor visibility and a too tight radius.
The additional roundabouts on Santa Fe will not solve the traffic congestion that will be generated by the Scripps Hospital expansion, the Hall property park, the Vons expansion, and a new medical building. But the city can get away with it because there are no traffic standards for roundabouts.
Obviously you have never traveled in Europe or Latin American. When traffic reaches a certain volume, roundabouts become chaotic unless stop signs or signal lights are installed.
Stop demonizing Lynn and make your argument for roundabouts. They are very difficult to put in established areas because they take more room than a regular intersection.
Roundabouts are proven to be more effficient, safer for cars and pedistrians and more ecologically sound and offer landscape beautification. You can not like them for some reason, but the above is truth.
