Coastal Commission Del Mar meeting madness
As I write this the CC meeting regarding the controversial 241 toll road that would cut through San Onofre state park is still going. It started at 9 am this morning and thousands of people showed up. They capped the public speakers at 500 after 2000+ tried to sign up for 2 minutes to speak.
The above photos are classic. The only visible "supporters" for the road were these Caltrans workers who were paid by the TCA to show up and hold signs. They promptly all left at exactly 2 pm when their pay day ended.

Enough is enough. Stop the reckless development and paving over every last square foot of paradise.
ReplyDeleteStop Bud Lewis's development clan.
Stop Jerome Stocks. Vote for anyone else but Jerome in the next election.
I wish I could have been there too! Thanks to all who showed up. I am going to send a letter to Ahhnold and our reps in Sacramento voicing my disapproval of the rape and pillage of our park. Are we witnessing the rise of the Sensible Majority? I hope so.
ReplyDeleteAt 11:20 pm the Coastal Commission voted 8 to 2 to reject the Toll Road and preserve the integrity of San Onofre State Park. I attended the first part of the session in the morning. The staff recommendations against the Toll Road were scientific, objective, and very compelling
ReplyDeleteI understand that this was the largest number of citizens to ever attend a CC meeting. A large majority was aganist the Toll Road. It was gratifying that the commissioners supported the public instead of the Orange County fat cats.
AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely awesome! The crowd was very well behaved short of a few outbursts. A great victory and renewal of faith in the Coastal Commission in upholding their mission. I was worried that the 4 appointees of the Guvenator would fold, but they didn't.
ReplyDeleteThe door is now cracked to allow a new alignment of the proposed toll road. Let's assume TCA won't be stupid enough to massage this plan and eventually resubmit a less obtrusive version.
The obvious big picture when you see the arial pics, is that other alignments for the road would require substantial condemnation and exercise of eminent domain through San Clemente. The defeated plan was entirely in undeveloped areas. TCA does not want to spend years in court with eminent domain litigation. This was truly the "path of least resistance."
Thanks to all who attended, it was history made.
I left burbank at 3:30am and was in the building by 6:30am.Not even the commission was there yet. lol I was afraid i might not get in, or get a chair from hearing days before that thousands were coming out.....and they did!I was the first one to sit down till they opened the doors and let everyone in...i was soon sorounded by paid supporters of a carpenters union...
